If it puts you into a position where you have to litterally grind, then you're actually casting too much with regards to what is lore-appropriate OR you have been forgetting to replenish or resupply the spell component pouch, which it easily would be if you just remembered to do this occassionally - Which really would be the equivalent of giving the usual "lip-service" you normally would at the PnP-table.Flasmix wrote:As someone who hates grinding, this would force me to grind for gold or 'components' just to cast magic.
Why do we want to promote grinding? I don't have hours upon hours to play, when I come home from work I just want to RP. Going to dungeons is the last thing on my mind.

Well, 'Lore Appropriately' if I kill a Dragon, I should be getting thousands of gold, enough so that I will always be able to keep my spell pouch full of reagents and have myself a nice castle. Instead, I get stuck with an Ale stein, cursed item and 200 coin.
What kind of cost do you think is appropriate to fill a spell pouch?

Simply put I'd rather have the lore inserted in the flavor text rather than a one size fits all bag of spell components that simply ticks up and down. A little encouragement goes further if you ask me. Of course I have to go watch anime so I'm excused from further discussion.

...Spellcasting culture? 'Enhance and enrich'? Do you hear yourself? Balance-wise, this is a ridiculous idea. You seem fixated on 'selling buffs', which really isn't a priority for anyone except for you. You've still given 0 reasons besides "I want to sell my buffs". HOW does it 'enhance' anything? HOW does it 'enrich' anything? It just makes it harder as a newb with a spellcasting character. It doesn't benefit anyone except for whoever wanted to sell spellcasting (which, really, isn't any better than the behavior you're so upset over). Spellcasters casting spells makes sense and works.Incarnate wrote:I'm not sure if you realize it, but the spell component pouch is really just one item, unless you decide to carry more, which most likely could be made stackable.Young Werther wrote:Well some people like to play with high sleight of hand and think it's kinda interesting from the RP perspectives. I've seen people RP component bags too. Mechanically it's meh to me and my cleric has a limited inventory.![]()
Oh and don't mind them pitchforks they are just bored.
The mechanics with the spell pouch isn't to enforce rp'ing using spell components specific to certain spells, but it is to bring spellcasting more in line with what the rules and lore states, and its is to enhance and enrich the spellcasting culture and the perspective on magic as a whole. Because as it is now its being represented as something its definitely not.
For instance, being able to regain spells so often and fast, where it would normally take a full rest of 8 hours plus additional time to memorize/pray for spell - which depending on the system would be at least 15 minutes to 1 hour, but if we're to more historically correct as the current puts pre 1st edition, then it would be 15 minutes per spell level per spell, so it would take a lot longer to regain spells - which would dramatically change how and when people use their spells. Obviously, this is isn't viable in the game, so we need something to make people use their spells when it matters rather than just cast them because they can and/or for the sake of casting. Also, since spells can be regained so quickly it means that many will freely offer buffs and wards to strangers, which basically makes impossible for other spellcasters to make a business out of selling their magical services. This is just a couple good reasons why we think it should be implemented.
This would be a HUGE nerf to spellcasters, and it's a stupid idea.

I would certainly say it very much depends on where you kill this dragon, because if outside its lair, most likely no gold, as wouldn't be carrying gold around - unless it was a gold dragon you had slain.Flasmix wrote:Well, 'Lore Appropriately' if I kill a Dragon, I should be getting thousands of gold, enough so that I will always be able to keep my spell pouch full of reagents and have myself a nice castle. What kind of cost do you think is appropriate to fill a spell pouch?
As for components in the pouch - their cost is each is basically close to negligible. But if you were to go resupply at a vendor it wouldn't be all that much, but how much really depends on the coin value here on the server, but a vendor would most certainly put a decent price tag on, and of course it would also be a matter of how much was needed to resupply it - as mentioned, the pouch would be more simplified, so instead of having to seek out specific components, it would be a numerical value.
It affects a lot more than it seems you realize, and its not just ONE bag that fits all, there would at least be one for each school of magic of various size and capacities. The flavour text wouldn't be enough, because it doesn't do anything with regards to magic being misrepresented lore-wise, being used in a way thats not a lore-appropriate amount.Young Werther wrote:Simply put I'd rather have the lore inserted in the flavor text rather than a one size fits all bag of spell components that simply ticks up and down. It also has the potential to impact other spellcasters, so that they make money selling their magical services, but it could also impact non-spellcaster should they get their hands on one of these pouches and realize that they profit from selling them. Furthermore, due the actual rule regarding these spell component pouches and lore, a spellcaster would not be able to cast spells without one, UNLESS the spellcaster had ALL the required components and materials for the spell in question. So you see, a mechanic that enforces this necessary, where a flavour text won't achieve this.

This is pointless minutiae with no actual backing whose only point would be to make playing a spellcaster less enjoyable.

Weird, huh - well if you bothered to actually read my responses to others you would actually get a good answer to your questions. No point in repeating myself while cluttering the thread with reiterations.CleverUsername123 wrote: Weird how you keep ignoring my replies.

Well that was short lived.
