Human 2 hander barbarian.

Unread post by Demise45 »

Trying to figure out a decent 2 hander barbarian build. How important is extended rage?

I have two options I think currently one being 22 barb 5 fb and 3 ak which is very feat starved
The other being 22 barb 4 figther 4 ak which has the space to take extended rage feats but loses on the increased damage from FB enhanced power attack, wondering if it is worth it.

There is an amulet sold in Balder's Gate the Wide merchant area, by the barbarian Ambjorn, that grants Extend Rage and Extra Rage (if I remember correctly).

But that is then on 1 extension.

Yeah I know wondering if it is worth it to get more extend than around 6 more damage, and if power attack + imp power attack works well with northlander hewing

I'd go for Extended Rages over IPA, because if you have a 1d12 weapon and high STR + Northlander Hewing, you'll be doing much more dmg over time (and you'll have better AB because only -2 for NH while -6 for IPA).

Don't take FB on a Barbarian build. Go with 20 Barbarian/10 AK, that's the best build you can go for. Fighter 4 doesn't make much sense since you lose 2 epic bonus feats from AK last two levels, and also 1d3 elemental damage, not to mention increased saves and skill points.

For Rage, go with Standard version, it is better choice. You get increased CON which in turn extendes your rage duration, increases HP and FORT and WILL saves (pick Steadfast Determination since you will get Toughness for free from AK). You also get +2 Regen which stacks with every other source of Regen and +5 damage per hit, flat.

You will have enough rage duration like that but make sure to buy that amulet, it gives Extended and Extra Rage, so you don't have to go buy them via feats.

For damage, take either Power Attack or Northlander Hewing, but not both. Also, consider Charge line of feats, I have it on my Battlerager and they are great. But you will have to spend 3 feats in order to get them.

Damage wise, you should easily reach 38 STR while in rage, with Will of the Uthgardt warmace (by far the best buy weapon in game) your damage per hit will be :

6.5 base weapon damage
4 EB
5 Rage
6 Power Attack
2.5 Anoint weapon
2.5 Extra damage slashing via the warmace
21 STR bonus

47 damage per hit.

Your AC should also easily hit over 50 ((+10 base, +10 Mithral Chainmail, +4 Armor bonus, +4 Deflection, +4 Dodge, +8 Natural (Ice Troll Berserker) +4 Shield Wand, +3 Tumble, +2 Barbarian level 20 bonus, +1 Luck of Heroes, +1 One Weapon feat))

AB will be around 50, but with Expose Weakness. Saves and HP also great, except reflex, but you will have 30 in spellcraft to mitigate that.

All in all, a great build, it relies on Potion of Heroism and Shield wand/brooch for your daily grinding, and those are rather cheap consumables. You will be able to solo most of the content and some bosses (except of course White Dragon, Balor, Dracolich).

The only problematic angle is how to fit Barbarian with Anointed Knight RP wise.

I played this barbarian build http://nwn2db.com/build/?286073, and the build does pretty well in many situations.
