Wrapping up my bard build.

Unread post by Calen »

I'm stuck between two feats when it comes to my bard build.
I would like some advice on them.

Build: 26 str bard 4 Anointed knight

Current picked feats:

Luck of heroes
Extend spell
Practiced spell caster bard
Cursed song
Lingering song
Blind fight (Anointed)
Toughness (Anointed)
Iron will.

Question is what would be better pick for a bard build.

Steadfast determination or Northlander Hewing.

As chad's signature says:

I know a lot of people like Northlander Hewing these days on bards. It's either that or IPA, in my view. Since you don't have IPA, then, maybe Northlander Hewing is a good idea.

Both are good choices, though.

Definitely get Steadfast if your CON is high (enough).

Bards spellbook grants you +10 to saves with Superior Resistance + Gr. Heroism. Add a few items that grant bonuses to universal saves, you'll be very good against mobs in the Saves department. And it simply sucks eggs to fail on 1, which will happen often cause the Engine cheats.

I'd drop Iron Will, myself. And then you'd be able to take both Steadfast and NH??

With out iron will I can't pick Anointed knight.
The only thing I could drop in the future could be practiced spell caster or luck of heroes.
Though I won't be remaking until the RCR is 100%

At one point he can get a nice damage boost, other hand rolling ones is a complete pain.
Not the first time I roll 3 times 1 in a row.

There won't be any global 100% RCR, also I'd pick Power Attack.

i think there are gloves that grant the PA feat so that is an option. if not then i would pick NH and Steadfast and id drop LOH or extend spell.

Bard really wants extend. So many round/ level spells that can help quite a bit.

Northlander Hewing.

- The average damage would be decent when fighting with shield and NH on
- It would give you an extra trick when up against high DR bosses

I had a Northlander Hewing Bard before everyone thought it was cool.

There are weapons that come with the Power Attack feat, such as one of the epic Greatsword in item list of the epic merchants. There are others in the random loot table. I think Anointed Knight gets Martial and Tower Shield Proficiencies, so you can combine that Greatsword with the Monkey Grip Tower Shield from the same merchant. This is what you can do if you pick Steadfast Determination.

Personally though, I would lean towards Northlander Hewing. As it was said before, it is really handy against DR. More so if you got a large weapon damage dice weapon with extra physical damage on top. (Will of Uthgard Warmace with 1d12 + 1d4 or Manticore Greatsword for 1d12 + 1d6) The physical damage gets maximised, so it is a lot base damage per hit even on that dodgier bard strength score. (Barbarians, Clerics, and Paladins have it better.)

Bards also have a spells that overlap, such as sources of Concealment. So you can get by without Extend. Doesn't change that Extend is nice though. Mirrors + Concealment is usually enough for the bard not to die against mobs.
