Monad
Appearance:
Race: Wood elf
Age: 300
Height 5'8"
Weight: 180 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Dark brown, sometimes dyed dirty platinum

Personality Profile:
General Health: Strong, but finally showing some age
Deity: Sehanine Moonbow, Aerdrie Faenya
Initial Alignment: Neutral Good
Profession: Ranger
Habits/Hobbies: Patrolling the woods and occasionally some roads, getting to know human culture, spending time with Vincent
Languages: Elven, Common, Illuskan, Alzhedo
Weapon of Choice: Swords
Other: Like most wood elves, Monad is generally calm and level-headed. As a wood elf, she never learned much about magic. She tolerates urban cities, but has no great love for them. At first impression, she can sometimes seem off-putting. However, she is actually traveling out of a desire to strengthen the bonds between elves and humans. Monad has realized how reclusive the wood elves are in the High Forest. She sees danger in such isolation and tries to reach out to other races; thus, Monad values compassion over strength.

Background:
Born and raised in the High Forest, Monad trained to protect the forest. She showed a great natural affinity for combat, training in stealth tactics and excelling at direct frontal melee. Her upbringing was otherwise relatively typical for a wood elf.

A couple centuries ago, Monad lost her child at birth. For a while, she felt nothing but rage and anger over this, and these emotions showed themselves in her fighting. Now though, as a follower of Sehanine Moonbow, she believes her child has been reincarnated; she just does not know as what or where. Monad is now generally unwilling to kill because she thinks anyone could be her reincarnated child. Still, under the right circumstances, the old rage can come boiling up to the surface.

Like most wood elves, Monad did not heed the Retreat when it was called. However, unlike most wood elves, Monad saw the Retreat as an alarming sign of regression and decided to do something about it. She left the High Forest to do what she could to reverse this trend of isolation. In short, Monad seeks to be something of an ambassador to human lands. However, the stark cultural differences between her home and human lands have taken some time to adjust to.

At some point early in her travels, Monad happened upon a caravan under attack by orc raiders. She protected the caravan, and the humans asked her to travel with them as a guard. She did so. In return, they gratefully presented her with fine weapons and armor.

Her time with the caravan also gave her a friend: her dog, Vincent. Vincent was previously owned by a caravan member. However, that person was killed in the orc raid that Monad came across. She formed a bond with Vincent while traveling with and guarding the caravan. When it came time for Monad to leave the caravan, Vincent came with her.

Her travels brought her south to the Sword Coast region.

Vincent passed away while he and Monad were traveling the Sword Coast.

Goals:
  • Understand and build relations with human settlements
  • Protect the forests
  • Do Sehanine's work, including destroying the undead
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
  • Monad sees her gifted gear as a symbol, a hopeful sign for her goal to build elven/human relations.
  • She speaks to and trains Vincent in Elven.
  • "Monad" is the closest that most humans can come to pronouncing her elven name, so that is the name she uses in human lands. Her name is actually M'Nahdtriinaee Moonblade.
  • She is slowly getting used to being around humans. As her wariness fades, more of her compassionate personality tends to show itself.
  • Monad's combat style has gradually become more direct and forceful, while still retaining a certain grace and nuance. This reflects her personality shift as she has spent more time on the Sword Coast and become more comfortable speaking with the locals.
