Playing a sorcerer and just took blood mage level 1.
The class grants the regular scribe scroll feat which is not mentioned on the wiki. Not complaining its a bonus I will happily take as a sorcerer!
The only issue I noticed was that when choosing which spellcasting class to progress in the list also gave the option to take a spellcasting/metamagic feat instead. Which I assume if I had taken instead of Bloodmage Innate Casting would have messed up the class for me. These should be removed from the list to avoid other players making a mistake and choosing them.
Edit: I assume the scribe scroll feat is added due to the interaction with the scarrification feat.

Re: Blood Mage - minor issue
Unfortunately, the way this class (and several other Prestige Classes/PRCs like it) are designed, they do populate a list of feats that you can freely take from -- but unless you take the "PRC (Spellcasting Progression)" feat, you're going to end up not getting the spellcasting progression advertised by the class.
So you could end up with a Blood Mage who never gains new spells or spells per day if you take, like "Extend Spell" on level 1 instead.
As I understand it, there's no real workaround that we know of on the dev side of things at this time.

You are correct, if you didnt take the progression feat, then your spellcasting wouldnt have progressed. The feat list at level1 is a known issue, one that cannot be fixed.RaiderOne wrote:Playing a sorcerer and just took blood mage level 1.

If your character is under or at level 10, you can use the RCR NPC in Nexus to recreate your character with the correct feat at no loss of experience. If your level is 11 or higher, the RCR method will cost some experience.
Thus, it might be better to just ask a DM to remove X amount of experience to delevel your character so it is just one experience point away from leveling up again.

This should not be done, unless the DM knows exactly what he is doing. There are potential exploits about removing levels with some PRCs and the Blood Magus is one of them.Sun Wukong wrote:Thus, it might be better to just ask a DM to remove X amount of experience to delevel your character so it is just one experience point away from leveling up again.

In that case perhaps a full RCR is in order.

In this instance, the OP took the correct feat. He assumed, correctly, that not taking the spellcasting progression would stop his character from progressing in their spellcasting class.
But if someone does torpedo their build by failing to take spellcasting progression in a PRC that offers it (and requires you take the feat on level 1), your best recourse would be to contact the DMs about it, yes.
