Rebuilding Wendi

Unread post by Arn »

My Master Alchemist has a CL of 27. With Archmage Spellpower, her CL could be 30.

But does anyone know if Archmage Spellpower will increase also increase the maximum CL of her elixirs?

Sweet. Unfortunately, it seems that dropping ASoC for Archmage will make Appraise a cross-class skill for her. Womp womp.

Anyone happen to know what Appraise has to be at to get the lowest prices at the epic shop? I know it sure isn't 59. >_<

Item prices seem to bottom out at 66 Appraise. I tested it out at Kalehir by swapping my Appraise gear on and off. I recorded the prices of Viperblade and Warmace of Terror at different Appraise skills.

Viperblade
68 Appraise - 280350 gold
66 Appraise - 280350 gold
65 Appraise - 284800 gold

Warmace of Terror
68 Appraise - 315000 gold
66 Appraise - 315000 gold
65 Appraise - 320000 gold

Maximum appraise percentage is -40% (with Reputation another -10%). My bard has only 45 ranks and hits the cap rather easily.

Appraise rolls a d20 so I don't think your results are necessarily consistent.

Yes. Or more specifically, with Trade Domain.

I think Kalehir's prices are calculated differently from normal merchants. It seems to be a set price correlating with each Appraise skill level. I changed my Appraise skill repeatedly, and got the same prices consistently. (Note that this would not happen with normal merchants at all: you generally can only alter their prices once per server reset, and that price change is indeed random.)

There's something in the mechanics of the appraise roll I'm missing. I know there's a toolset toggle to enable/disable appraise checks for merchants but I think that only affects the additional d20 roll or something.

I do know that you can reroll an appraise check if you increase your appraise score by at least 1. Decreasing appraise will not change a previous roll; it remains until your score is higher. I actually keep a dagger in my inventory, not just to shiv people with but because it's value at max appraise is 1368. I know if I see that price at a UD merchant (or 1,350 at other merchants) I'm at the cap. If I don't get the cap, I activate Inspire Competence and try again. Then cast Appraising Touch and try again. Then cast Heroism and try again. Then cast Gtr Heroism and try again... and by that point I've never failed to have a max roll :P

Master Alchemist has Appraise as a class skill, Guild Thief has Appraise as a class skill, and so on... Thus just re-work your leveling order or just spend the feat on Able Learner.

Well I'll be damned. I guess I really shouldn't be relying on the forum descriptions :? Thanks!

Yeah, I am aware of this. I was both increasing and decreasing my Appraise skill when I tested Kalehir. In all cases, his prices adjusted consistently.

Edit: I think maybe they changed the way Kalehir works because if he worked like normal merchants, his prices would be even lower than they already are? *shrugs*

Just tested it. Wendi's build is currently Cleric 7/Wizard 10/Master Alchemist 5/Archmage 8. She has taken Practiced Spellcaster (Wizard) and Spellpower I, II, and III.

Even though I type in 30 when activating Master Alchemist Brew, the maximum elixir CL is still 27. So I don't think Spellpower counts toward elixir CLs.

I should note that I tested the duration of her spells (not in elixir form, just normal casting), and they were the correct duration. Haste lasts 3 minutes, as would be expected for a CL 30 character. It's just the elixir CLs that are capped at 27.

Edit: Incidentally, anyone want a CL 27 elixir of Invisibility? :D
