Re: Profanity and swearing in RP
Just to clarify, I didn't mean to sound like I want to censor the current blood/gore/violence, although it was sometimes, in RP, a little over the top for my taste (when body mutilations are RPed done to characters I know etc.), I was just saying... well, it's the old story with America's stance on violence vs. sex - no problem with poking an eye out or sawing off limbs in gory detail, but hell don't tell me nipples exist!

How about:Arcane wrote:Heh, good suggestion but for this character it's too verbose.
You may kiss a rat's arse if you think I'm an orc.
Based on my experience with BGTSCC language policing, the above does teeter on a line where it might be deemed too offensive. But in your defense you could say that at least the word ass has been 'masked' by arse... I've seen arse around quite often. Usually by the dwarves that for some reason try to sound little bit more Scottish or something.
Hmn...
Also, that it is conditional statement. It is up to the other party if they wish to imply that their character kisses the posterior of rats.

Maybe we should change the word nipples to a less offensive word like...how about napple?
Oh feck-fark! This piece of shite breastplate is chaffing my napples!

If the congratulatory birthday listings at the bottom of the BGtSCC main page were to be valid stat point to go by, it makes me feel young to have experienced the swap between 3rd and 3.5 edition during my middle-school days.casadechrisso wrote:[...]And I honestly doubt I ever ran into a teen player since playing here[...]
Anyways, as someone who has learned a good chunk of English from fantasy novels after moving to the States (I didn't even know 'blackguard' was actually pronounced 'blaggard' until my mid-20s, despite living here for the majority of my life now) I'd have to say that PG-13 and T ratings are a pretty novel invention. Fantasy novels haven't ever had any of those limitations, and I'd be completely truthful in saying that any and all of the content in the 'Game of Thrones' (mentioning them since they've hit mainstream attention in the past decade) novels is pretty tame in comparison to what had cropped up for a cloistered kid picking out books from their local library with sweet-lookin' dragons on the cover... twenty or so years ago.
Long story short, even if there are actually any kids here, doubt they're here from some confused misdirection ala the "im 12 how did i get here im not good with computer" meme. In the worst-case scenario, their innocence isn't going to be any more despoiled than that of someone with a library pass before the internet was a thing.
On that note, I may be misinformed on the topic, but I have heard it said that since GameSpy used to manage NWN2 server traffic, the 'T' rating was enforced on NWN2 servers due to service agreements with the company. That's no longer an issue (as of 2014) since the company was dissolved.metaquad4 wrote:[...]The server can't actually use ESBR's teen rating legitimately anyway, since Online Interactions Are Not Rated.[...]
As someone who uses profanity as a point of punctuation IRL (thanks to a bit of service in the local military), regardless of any change in server policy, I don't actually see any of my characters' manners of speech changing regardless the end decision - player/character separation and all that.
