Lost items stored on Horse

Unread post by Arcanum »

Hello all
Today I RCR my toon Kasharren only to find that my horse and many items that was stored on it was gone. I was told by a DM to ask for a Rollback request.

I hope this can be fixed for I really like the RP of a merchant for the Coast.

was the spelling of the PC name exactly the same?

did you wait for a reset after deleting the original PC and creating the new one? (My understanding is if you create a PC with the exact same name as the one you just deleted for XP transfer, there are some issues caused. It is better to name the new PC slightly different and then use the disguise tool until a DM can permanently 'fix' the name for you.)

In any case, horses are tied to the account name and PC name, to the point where if you use disguise to name one of your PCs exactly like one of your other PCs you can "share" a horse (or any merchant BG storage). It would likely help developers/admins if they had this kind of detail from you in order to understand what happened to your storage.

PM the admins and we'll try to get your items restored as best as we can. Seems like something is going wrong and people are losing their horses after an RCR.

I wish that the horse was tied the way you are saying but so far I have experienced the same thing and the horse is gone.

Tested using disguise from a different PC did not work.
Tested buying horse and seeing if could retrieve old saddle bag did not work.
Tested naming horse same as hold horse also did not work.

So far all signs point to the horse going the way of the Dodo once you erase the PC being RCR'd.

I warned the dm team of this beforehand, having had my packhorse disappear after a simple character rename last month. A DM re-rename back to the original returned the horse to where I'd left it.

You cannot use disguise mechanics for horses. I've tried! It doesn't work.

Folks, empty your packhorses and put all your stuff into persistent merchant storage!

It actually wasn't a renaming issue, we had code in place to intentionally delete someone's packhorse when their character file got deleted, so these horses in this circumstance were literally gone. :(

I got this player sorted though, and if any others lost their horse please contact me and I'll see what I can do.

Yeah I thought something like that had happened in this case Elly. Cheers for the clarifications & warnings!

To confirm, since I haven't been using the reworked storage as much since last year's server-nuking/disguise-rename-friendly version, if you store your gear in merchant storage and remake the character under the exact same name, you can still access the original character's storage?

Yep, the account name and character name have to be the same (with the EXACT same capitalization in both).

Exactly what I was looking forward to hearing, thanks!

You can still use disguise mechanics to the same effect, but only merchant-storage! It won't work with horses (that I've tested).
