North of Baldur's : dusty tome for sale (SOLD)

Unread post by leviticus »

The temporary campground was small yet clean. A seven foot length of army-like canvas had been draped over a horizontal ridgepole, and was staked to the soil at the sides. It featured flaps that closed off on one end. Split logs were piled on the earth floor. A black haired woman wearing a welded chainmail over a black long sleeved shirt, relentessly drove an axe so hard through each log in front of her, that the heavy iron got buried in the stump beneath the wood every single time. A placard was installed near the public road.
Dusty tome for sale.

A Calishite merchant notices the sale and offers 50,000 gold pieces for it.

With one mighty swing the woman buried her axe in a nearby trunk. Wiping her hands she casually looked over to those gathering at her campsite.

"If it had been opened, it wouldn't have been that dusty anymore, would it?"

Something flashed in the depths of her dark eyes as her gaze shifted to the Calishite merchant.

"Though a satisfied customer is likely the best business strategy of all, -and you would be if I accepted your offer-, I do have faith the price may go up just a little. But for now it's noted. What is your name?"

She noted down his name, and shared hers as 'Jezebeth'.
A letter is sent to the camp in response to the ongoing auction. The letter is penned in a flowing script and reads as follows:

"Felicitations! I place a bid of 100 bags for the tome you carry. If this price appeased you, we may trade in xxx."

The letter does not bear any identifying marks in the common tongue save for an insignia of an xxx.
Jezebeth -who had accepted this letter from a young errand boy-, folded the paper and would brief the others, should they stop by, that she had an offer of one hundred bags.

"I stay here for two more days after today. After that, the tome will be offered to the highest bidder. And who knows... what will come out of it."

And as said, two days later the campsite was deserted, the woman with the tome heading to an unknown destination to deliver.
