It's the Zombie apocalypse! You need a zombie killing weapon

Unread post by Tekill »

What is your zombie weapon of choice?
Keep in mind, not any old thing will do if you plan to survive.

I've got a trusty old 1.80m long quarterstaff that survived relatively heavy use for a good 4 years. I doubt it'd fail me now.

I also got a few knives (including a bayonet) I could strap on its tip with a a generous application of duct tape giving me a fairly decent spear!

Metal baseball bat? Less noisy than a gun, never runs out of ammo, don't need to sharpen it, easy to use.

I would use the knowledge that I have gathered from this book. Haven't you guys learned anything from your years playing on BG? Candlekeep always has the answer.

He also wrote WWZ, which was a great thing to listen to as an audiobook. Unlike that abomination of a movie they made after it.

10 friends have different speed of running. the slowest of them all will get eaten first. sad truth

but a combination of 10 skills can make all 10 survive too.

24" steel wrecking bar. Functions as a weapon and a tool, while being damn near indestructible.

You have all made some solid choices, but we here are some tips that might save your lives....at least for a little while.

@ Hoihe- The staff has to be enough to not just crack skulls but to smush brains. This is not Walking dead where a typical zombies skull is as soft as a over ripe cantaloupe. The flesh is soft and rotting, the bone still is somewhat solid and hard. It has to be a thick staff.
If you are going to convert the staff into a spear then do not use duct tape. You get enough zombie gore on that tape and it will get lose. Bolt any blades you use onto the end of a staff. There are YouTube videos showing how to do it. Watch them quick before we lose power and the net!
The Zombie Spear would be my choice. Quick stabbing motion, very efficient at killing many zombies with little energy and you do not have to get close to them.

@Arn - Baseball bat is easy to obtain and solid enough to squish brains. A metal bat would be easier to clean to. The wooden bat would soak up the stench of death and rot very easy.
The only draw back is to swing a bat, requires a wide arc. If you are surrounded, it is going to be hard to swing that thing to take them out. Close quarters, and you are in trouble.
I recommend a child's aluminum bat. They are smaller, lighter, but still strong enough to crush brains. I think you will have much better success.

@Lockonnow - A Katana would be ideal. Super sharp, super light. You can slash or pierce.
But good luck finding an authentic one at the end of the world- a machete, maybe.

@Maecius - My first thought after reading your post was that you were going to be that friendly overly trusting character in all zombie movies. The one that everyone likes but usually always meets a horrible swarmed zombies death in the first quarter of the movie.
Then I thought about it. If you look at it big picture, there is no point surviving the impending apocalypse if you are the only one around that lives.
The best weapon is fellow survivors..equipped with proper zombie killing weapons!

@thids - I have put the book on my wish list. I hope to god it comes before we are overrun!
But I dont have Amazon Prime! I had to take standard shipping! Oh no's!

@Darradarljod The axe is a good choice. But like the bat it requires a wide swing. And it also can get wedged into zombies heads sometimes. Your axe looks like it might be less likely to get wedged into bone and such with the thinner blade. And you appear to handle it well... so it should do. But have a couple sharp knives handy for close combat in the event of worse case scenario.

@Ravial - Biological Warfare- A man made flesh eating disease is probably what created the zombie Apocalypse to begin with!
And now you want to use it again to try and stop them?!
You are trying to kill us all!
You will probably just end up creating some new kind of super zombie!
AREYOUMAD!?

@Izzul - a pragmatic version of maecius's idea. Sacrifice other survivors to save your own skin and exploit other survivors for their abilities. You have a true zombie survivors spirit. But I still recommend finding your signature zombie killing weapon.

@whatsittoya and Tsidkenu - the crowbar/prybar/wrecking bar is a solid choice but they are heavy and tiring to swing the more you use it. Have some back up knives at the ready just in case.

Okay I think I have given all the help I can give. The power has gone out here. I am on emergency generators now. Its not long before the internet goes down and I have to stop playing Baldurs Gate. I think I see a zombie herd coming from my window. Im so close to levelling though...I get Expose Weakness this level too! Shoot!

Well I will see you all on the other side!!

As long as nothing apocalyptic goes down in the 2 days after leg day, I'll be OK...
