Guidelines for events:

▪ Please wait before committing any actions, especially upon entering a new area. This will allow me to set the scene and give context clues as to how players may wish to proceed.
▪ Please ask if there is something you would like to try (and especially before you try it). Creative, out-of-the-box thinking is always welcome (though subject to approval).
▪ Please understand that I may alter alignment or enact unexpected consequences where merited by character actions.

Other notes:

▪ Journaling about my events is likely to net extra xp/rewards.
▪ RP via PMs is a perfectly valid and welcome approach to interacting with my plots.
▪ Let me know if there is ever anything that seems unclear and I will do my best to clarify.

About me:

▪ My current timezone is USA Central.
▪ Sometimes I like hitting the server with random trivia questions.
▪ Mountains > beach, dogs > cats, literally everything in the world > mayonnaise.

To everything there is a season.

Whispers say The Shrine of Mielikki north of Beregost has been the origin of supernatural stirrings recently, despite its location off the beaten path. A darkening of the grass around the shrine as well as black rot settling within the roots of nearby trees is evident and those more attuned to nature may mutter that the smell of death lingers there. The atmosphere, to those who may be familiar with the locale, seems to have become much more still and somber of late. What will the adventurers of the Coast decide to do with this information? Will they work to see the shrine burst into renewed life or will they allow it to continue to wither and die?

Hidden: show
OOC: All are invited to participate. Below are valid options to enact at the shrine. Consequences possible. The first "side" to 50 actions (whether to purify or defile) will affect the area with the final outcome.

1. Purify the Shrine: Requires a PC to visit the Shrine north of Beregost and provide an appropriate offering to Mielikki OR a spell of Blessing, along with RP. (Screenshot required unless DM Chant is IG to witness)

2. Defile the Shrine: Requires a PC to visit the Shrine north of Beregost and leave an offensive token OR a spell of Bestow Curse, along with RP. (Screenshot required unless DM Chant is IG to witness)

Please PM screenshots to DM Chant.

To everything there is a season.

In spite of the decay, a crisp, sweet breeze ruffled through the deadening leaves and grasses about the shrine of Mielikki as a result of a pledge given and a Blessing bestowed. If only for a moment, the pleasure of the goddess seemed to resonate upon the site.

Some days later, a soft, orange glow might be seen to emanate from the shrine of Mielikki in the presence of a group of adventurers gathered there in concern and devotion. For just a moment, amid the rustling of trees, the scent of sun-ripened things ready for the harvest dispels the tang of death from the air.

The rot and decay persist on, but there is hope that life and the glory of autumn may yet return to the shrine of the Forest Queen in the wake of several acts of devotion there. Divine magic lingers within the area and the icon of Mielikki finds herself recently festooned with the gift of a spidersilk crown - comforting signs that there are those who would not see the place fall to foul influences.

Those gathered in the name of friendship with nature for a cooperative push against the dark forces at the shrine of Mielikki are favored with a sigh of divine breeze whispering through the site at the end of their prayers. The shrine pulses with light that reaches out in a globe of divine joy for some minutes and the offerings left at Mielikki's feet are swept away before onlookers' gaze, one by one. For those who walk closely with nature, the stirring of life within the earth underfoot might be faintly detectable amid the rot. Something has begun to improve for the better...

A flowering wreath comprised of knots that are clearly elven in nature may be found upon the icon of Mielikki; another memento crafted by caring hands to honor the goddess in her shrine's time of need. The note of sadness that has been present in the wind nearby seems to hush with the giving of the gift.

A solitary offering left with a word of prayer and a shower of consecrating magic might have been spied briefly before it was swept away from sight, vanishing into the ether. Noticeably, the stench of dying things simply seems to have lifted from the site of the struggling shrine as a result.

In light of another small offering placed at the feet of Mielikki by a faithful servant of nature, the pall of gloomy sadness that has been lingering near seems to lessen noticeably. After the most recent gift disappears into the bosom of the earth, a single, autumn-kissed leaf descends to rest upon the statue's shoulder, gilded by the coming season.

Where the shrine of recent days has seemed to crystallize in time, half caught between lingering taint and the rebudding of vitality, a pair of new offerings laid at the feet of Mielikki to show reverence paired with a prayer of consecration have provided a much-needed spark. As a result of this attention, a small resurgence of nature's power lances through the area, breaking stagnation's hold.

A new collection of faithful gifts is left at the shrine, these sinking into the earth underfoot in acceptance once they are placed by those who visit. A small, almost electric current seems to crackle with vitality in the area about the shrine in response, the blackness of the roots and the shriveled nature of the grasses seeming to lessen somehow.

A heartfelt ritual led by a servant of Mielikki - a red-haired woodswoman sporting all the trappings of a ranger - yielded a trifold result at the withering shrine. First, as gifts of new plantlife were ushered into the land and as three distinct, personal gifts were sacrificed for the love of the goddess, the Lady of the Forest's joy shone clear and radiance enveloped her statue. Secondly, as prayers were lifted high by those who congregated together for the ritual, divine lights burst forth over the site and stripped the blackness of rot away, leaving only the colors of autumn. Finally, a shy dryad approached the group as the result of remarkable deeds done in Mielikki's name, pledging her protection of the shrine as its guardian.
The shrine of Mielikki has been purified.

Who let the gnoll out?

The farmlands north of Baldur's Gate stir with a hasty blur of activity that sees carnival lights doused, colorful tents torn down, and equally colorful characters packed into wagons that seem eager to depart. As the grounds begin to clear of the festive array that has occupied the spot for some time now, a lone cage containing a single gnoll remains untouched. The creature gnaws at his bars in a fit of rage, snarling at anyone who crosses his gaze before a dagger is thrown by some sideshow marksman and sticks it in the eye. There it remains, dead, while the carnival continues to roll out.

In the hubbub of this departure, a fellow whose mood is nothing less than irate reports the description of two men - an elderly human with gray hair who is capable of shapeshifting and a gnome possessing both unusual strength and extremely clean teeth - who are responsible for theft, greivous bodily assault, and wrecking his carnival's livelihood.

Cautionary posters are hanged in Baldur's Gate with these descriptions and any sightings of such villainous men are directed to the Flaming Fist's attention.

Who's that lady?

A proclamation is posted outside of the temple of Helm, tacked up on the bulletin board in the commons of the East District, and circulated via rumor mill among those who reside in Baldur's Gate.

Let it hence be known that Pryat Mae yr Machshikhah of Helm, Trusty of the Temple of the Guardian in Saelmur, newly arrived to Baldur's Gate by way of Athkatla, has been exonerated of all charges - including sedition, dissent, consorting with evil gods, and treason - that the vile impostor who has recently masqueraded as the pryat has wrongfully incurred in her guise.

Watcher Martin Valdore
Overblade of the Church of Helm in Baldur's Gate

Statues.

The denizens of Athkatla itself seemed to care little for the spectacle of an old woman, tied and gagged, being carefully escorted to the Dome of the Rose cathedral by a bevy of armored men and women with the symbol of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary upon their persons. However, the church itself received the woman - and a small contingent of recently-missing people along with her - in a tizzy of action. As the authorities were summoned to take the gagged woman away, clerics brought out to see to a few people in need of rest and nourishment, and a vile book whisked away from sight into the safety of the Dome, thanks were handed out to the men and women who traversed so far south to lend their aid to their brothers-in-arms.

Who's that...chicken?

Overblade Martin Valdore might be glimpsed in much better spirits about the temple of Helm in Baldur's Gate after members of the Everwatch - and one blond, temporary member of their ranks - were seen escorting a missing pryat back to the fold late last evening. A bit of tension was released from his shoulders at her safe return and sincere thanks were doled out accordingly to the faithful of Helm and the Marshal of House Darius who assisted in her rescue. While the group closed itself off for a formal debriefing, a runner may have been seen to remove the fliers posted in various city locales, advertising for aid in Mae's disappearance.

A Mighty Wind.
Sshamath

In the deep of the night, the crypt wherein the bones of a cursed dragon prowl met first with the clamor of battle against its various undead denizens, including the clatter of draconic bone upon stone floor, then was followed by phenomena of a more curious nature. As the result of some secret catalyst, the atmosphere of the crypt seemed to crystallize with absolute silence; even remnant undead dared not move about within the stillness of the air. This preceded a mighty gust of hot wind that tumbled in force throughout the corridors, angry, unseen but most assuredly felt, seeking the source of some offense...

The hag caves of Cloakwood seem to be recovering after some hideous, oppressive occurrence made an impact on the green-skinned population there. A small party may have been seen entering and exiting the place, steeped in confusion and perhaps, for one or two of them, a sense of quiet horror.

How does your garden grow?

A tall, stoic man who looks much too old for his age might be seen escorting a young lad of six or seven into the Palace District of Baldur's Gate. His clothes are tidy but threadbare; his expression is courteous but in a state of world-weariness. One of his calloused hands grips the small boy's fingers reassuringly. The boy, oddly clutching a fine fur cape around his frail body, tries to emulate the man's gait. However, he is wracked with coughing fits every so often, slowing down their progress through the streets toward the Halls of Inner Light.

A small group of well-groomed people sporting parasols and quills may have been spotted taking a turn around the Palace District in an excited gaggle. They toured various sites in the area; specifically, the war memorials of 1348 and 1352 that stand in various degrees of disrepair throughout the otherwise tidy lanes of the noble part of town. A Ducal representative hosted this brigade, chattering about some manner of future plans that may brighten the face of the district in due time.

In recent days, the clamor of demolition and woodwork begins to ring clearly throughout the Palace Disctrict of Baldur's Gate, accompanied by the busy murmur and cheerful calls of craftsmen plying their trade. Little mounds of rubble dot the area and raw materials of high value and fine quality may be spied as they are molded by expert hands. Though the process seems to be in its beginning stages, it is easy to tell that each facet of the construction is aimed to fit seamlessly into the sparkling locale of the noble district; that it is meant to bring liveliness to sites long-deserving of attention.

In the deep of the night, two women may have been seen at the construction site of one of the war memorials in the Palace District, enacting a combination of divine spell and ritual while a member of the City Watch acts as guard.
Azalea Starglow, a priestess and Silverstar of Selûne, would have been seen after moonrise, setting up a ritual space with a ring of candles around the memorial, and intoning prayers in celestial, some whispered under her breath, others sung aloud in a bright, gentle singing voice while looking up to the moon. She would have poured milk and wine over the ritual space and sprinkled it with holy water, asking in the celestial tongue for the Moonmaiden's blessing upon the ground that any evil might be warded away and cleansed. The whole Consecration ritual would take a few hours, and a pale silver glow would surround the area for about half an hour afterward.

About midway through the ritual, Sylvia Brightleaf would arrive, an iron pot in one hand, and a potions bag in the other. She would set them down and wait, offering Azalea some stew from the pot once she’d finished. Taking a spot near the construction site, Sylvia would spend the next 8 or so hours, casting the more ritualistic version of Plant Growth to enrich the land for the long term, focusing on the area with stunted growth, and maybe a few fruit trees.

After several months' labor in the Palace District, foremen, teams of construction workers, and artisans gather their tools and vacate the areas that are no longer construction sites, but gleaming, manicured, and overhauled memorials of recent wars. The land beneath one in particular shows no further signs of barrenness, but a riot of grass and flowering trees now adorning the spot.

Heard on high.

A few evenings past, A blonde man and a daughter knight of the temple might have been spotted entering the bright sanctuary in search of the Most Radiant. Their visit with him was not lengthy, but chatter within the Song of the Morning among the clergy following their exit would be spiced with awe and wonder; with murmur of vibrant gifts of the Morninglord's favor and divine messages granted.

What large teeth you have.

A large party might have been spotted disappearing into the natural landscape from where they were congregated at the Friendly Arm Inn via the druidic way of travel. They returned again some hours later to the very same spot, warded and leaf-covered and possibly smelling of undead, but in good condition. Anyone sensitive to such things who might journey deep within the Wood of Sharp Teeth might sense that something odd took place between the fabric of the Prime and some other small plane of existence. In addition, the lingering remnants of necromancy and a powerful Disjunction might be detected for a brief time, as well as the evidence of large, lycanthropic footprints upon the terrain.

Deep within the Wood of Sharp Teeth, the sky seemed to have opened wide to allow a shower of divine fire to rain down upon a spot saturated with holy energy, light, and a ritual circle. The low, crooning howl of a lycanthrope may have carried a few miles from the spot, signaling some noteworthy happenstance or another having occurred...

Put a spell on you.

Word out of Ulgoth's Beard spreads to the Farmlands of Baldur's Gate and into the city of strange occurrences in the last evening, where talk of doppelgangers and kidnap and cursed rope are sputtered in conjunction with a series of confused hypotheses. A large group converged at the culmination of the night in the Palace District of Baldur's Gate, filling the Halls of Inner Light to capacity in relief of an elven woman's discovered reappearance.

A group of confused and alarmed individuals might have been spied gathering in the road of the eastern farmlands of Baldur's Gate, deciding with haste to Teleport elsewhere once several disjointed threads of understanding managed to come together. Not long after their departure, sounds of a strange occurrence within the Greenest Inn some distance away shook the rafters of the place with roared words and splintering wood.

The next morning, an annoyed innkeep sends correspondence to Baldur's Gate via courier.

For reasons known to only a few, the upper room of Sorcerous Sundries has been barred to the public on two recent occasions. Behind closed doors, the Weave has been tapped and utilized to very thorough effect, the sounds of incantation coming muffled through the door with an air of confidence and mostly calm professionalism. However, at the climax of the second occasion all magical effects in the immediate vicinity positively blinked out of existence after two powerful pulses of arcane spellwork were cast...

Sounds of an intense scuffle seemed to originate from an inn room in Nashkel last evening, though the staff seemed curiously unfazed by it and posed no intervention to the occurrence. Whatever the brawl, it left the room in some state of shambles and swiftly abandoned.

Not long after, a group of concerned individuals with the topic of abduction on their lips appeared together suddenly via Teleportation in the middle of a thronging crowd of merchants and buyers in Athkatla's Center District. One or two stepped away into the crowd for a moment; the others paid heed to a not-quite-discreet-enough magical casting that began to draw eyes to the group in utmost Amnian suspicion. Sensing some impediment to their search, the group had no other recourse but to return to Baldur's Gate...

It might be noted in bubbling rumor that a quiet temple in the eastern district gives welcome entry to a battered elven woman shortly after she and her cautious escort touched their tread onto the cobbles within the Gate. Clergy within grant a cloistered room for recovery and desperately needed rest.

Some time later, the area nearby experiences a nuanced shift in atmosphere; eyes seen and unseen alike change their direction toward the temple and keep a silent, strict watch on the site.

Ever so briefly, a few tendrils of curling smoke might have been noted seeping out from the upper windows of Sorcerous Sundries last evening. What seems to have been a minor conflagration was accompanied also by another instance of magical effects in the vicinity fizzling curiously out of existence, and the smell of charred wood and scorching alchemical compounds lingered subtly in the air for the better part of the night.

The tall figure of an armored man might have been spied hustling from the Northern Lights Inn to the House of the Guardian in the late hours of the evening by the odd night-owl citizen of Nashkel. In the dim light of the hour it may have been difficult to tell, but it did seem like he toted a woman's form, pale with the color of death and a wild mane of crimson-spattered white hair flowing from her ragdoll figure. Droplets of blood followed in their wake, staining the cobbled ground in grisly decoration.

Hellish screams, the rumble of suddenly brewing weather, and three distinct, booming notes of thunder may have been heard deep in the terrain of craggy rock and barren canyon nearby Durlag's Tower, underlaid by the crackling of fire and the whipping of wind high in the sky. The origin of such curious noise seems veiled from outside sight, but if heard in echoes from a distance, the sound may very well cause the skin to prickle and the spine to stiffen in response. The atmosphere seems charged—albeit only for a short time—before something releases, resolves, and brings ultimate peace to the vicinity.

Grubby hands and fleet feet.

Two ragged, dirty young ruffians might have been seen fleeing from the vicinity of the Ilmateri orphanage toward the eastern gate. The bigger of the two might have been heard snickering, "That was way too easy!" while his smaller compatriot staggered along after him, barefoot, sneezing, and gaunt.

Rise up.

The tolling of bells peals throughout the farmlands of Baldur's Gate, originating from the Chapterhouse of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary. Word is quickly spread throughout the locale that Ser Aaron Lyonaler has risen to the rank of Grand Knight.

What once was lost . . .
Sshamath

During the discreet visit of an agent originating from the Masked Tower, the School of Enchantment's halls may have echoed with one or two instances of otherworldly shrieking, witnessed a riot of errant, angry shadows writhing in random crevices, and experienced the absolute stink of burned, undead matter, drow flesh and clothing, and common satchel leather. Nevertheless, despite such occurrences, the visitor leaves again unmolested and the School of Enchantment seems to return to it's usual rhythm again soon after.
