Here's a thought:
Allow either Animate Dead or Create Undead to be usable on the corpses left behind by players. This would be great if one of them happens to be travelling with a Wizard/Sorceror with a low strength score uncapable of carrying their bodies.
The idea: You cast Create Undead/Animate Dead, targeting a player corpse. It creates a single Undead, just as it normally would, except the Undead is called "Corpse of (Insert name here.)
The corpse of the person reanimated will be put into the inventory of the Undead, who will immediately drop the item if it is ever slain/dismissed.
Can't carry your friends to the temple to raise them? Don't have a raise dead scroll? Animate them. Make their dead ass WALK to the temple, THEN raise them. xD
Can this be done?

Re: Animate Dead on Player corpses
not that its a horrible idea... BUT... there are several issues with it that prevent it from being feasible
one of which is that while animal dead can be used on recently deceased corpses, to which point they are more likely (like 95%) to spawn as a zombie if there is enough flesh left on the corpse, it would require player consent which is unlikely to happen...
and that is because once a corpse is animated by animate dead, they cannot be raised by raise dead or resurrection... only true resurrection can reverse animate dead -if- its a zombie, if you dont have enough flesh to be animated as a zombie, the remaining flesh falls off and you are animated as a skeleton... to which point you are screwed from true resurrection saving you as well, then you need a limited wish or wish
none of those three spells are generally approved for use on the server...
and of course for create undead... its simply not how you use that spell
as a necromancer i would love to... but yea, not happening

Because when you animate someone you essentially trap their soul! I don't think some people truly understand just how heinous an act it is to animate someones corpse.Blackman D wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 9:41 pm

That being said i feel like the undead summoning spells here should be renamed to Summon Undead rather than create/animate (more along the lines of summon skeleton spell from the spell compendium where you are simply summoning skeletons rather than destroying someones soul to animate a corpse) since this is a more accurate description of what we do on the server, otherwise Animate/create shouldn't work without a corpse.

Re: Animate Dead on Player corpses
There's some good reasons stated for why it can't work.
However, True Resurrection can raise creatures who have been undead (the spell description states no limit on what kind of undead). You just need to destroy the undead first IE kill it somehow and make it non-functional. You can't cast it on an animated undead. That's the limit.

Re: Animate Dead on Player corpses
...that completely rules out animate dead turned undead then...
meaning true resurrection only works on those who died and lingered on the material plane grieving and turned into undead by natural means...
