Sneak attack on items

Unread post by Kaeldre »

Het there!
Got a quick question for you guys, does sneak attack om items stack? Also, I'd like to confirm if these bonuses stack with similar bonuses from PrC?

Item Sneak Attack will stack only if your SA class is Assassin (death attack), otherwise no it doesn't.

All class sneak attack stacks except Phantom & Rogue together. Eg. Rogue + assn + guild thief stacks; rogue + phantom + guild thief only the highest level of phantom or rogue will stack with guild thief.

This also means SA from several items don't stack, I think. So the most SA you can get from items is 2d6 - from one 2d6 item.

The reason I ask is because I saw a post by chad (Quality control) saying the following on the forum:
yes. Rogue/Phantom don't stack with each other, but will stack with the sneak attack progression of any PRC. Note that sneak attacks from all PRC's will also stack with bonus sneak dice on items (Pins, Reili's Belt, certain crossbows, etc.), but the sneak dice from Rogue and Phantom will not stack with items. It has to do with base class sneak progression, unfortunately.
It made me a little uncertain as to what to believe since I had heard other information from other ends. Has this been explicitly tried and tested?

The long explanation is that each sneak attack is a vanilla game sneak attack feat and the items with bonus sneak attack feats grant precise feats : the ones granted to rogue/phantom level 1 and rogue/phantom level 3. Therefore if your PC already has those feats you won't get any bonuses, otherwise they're great additions.

Btw FYI all custom PRCs granting sneak attacks are just granting you a clever mix of existing vanilla sneak attack feats to reach the required number of sneak attacks you're supposed to get.

I see. If that is the case then I suppose that sneak attack on several items dont stack either?
