Background:
Little is known of Ollandor's origins; aloof and stubborn, the elven scholar seldom speaks of his life before arriving in Baldur's Gate, though it is clear that he has had access to a fairly good education. His motives for traveling to the Sword Coast are, at best, cryptic - with the exception of his unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He often spends his days analyzing whatever obscure texts he can get his hands on, but as he responds poorly to interruptions, few have been able to determine the purpose of his investigations.
Nevertheless, as he does not spare any effort while introducing himself, it is clear that he sees himself as a scholar in the service of Azuth.
Goals: Learn as much as possible about everything.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- Many of Ollandor's belongings have been lost during his journey to Baldur's Gate. It is not clear whether they were misplaced, stolen, or thrown overboard by the crew of the ship that brought him here, but he is missing a good deal of books, scrolls and gold. As a result of this, his lack of connections, and his complete unsuitability to the adventuring lifestyle, he has been forced to operate out of the Elfsong until he gets a source of sustainable income.
- Ollie really doesn't get along with people he sees as anything less than his intellectual equals - which is to say, virtually anyone. While he can sometimes be relatively diplomatic, it is a small miracle that none of his encounters so far have turned hostile.[citation needed - seems awfully civil in most of his interactions]
- Ollandor does not have a very high opinion of the scholars of Candlekeep, as he views their approach to the accumulation of knowledge as sadly misguided. While his frail physique is decidedly at odds with such beliefs, the elf believes that knowledge cannot be found within the walls of a fortress - no matter how well-stocked its libraries may be - and that many of Candlekeep's inhabitants would do well to venture beyond the Keep's walls more often.
