New Metamagic Feat: Communal Spell

Benefits: When you cast a Communal Spell, the spell changes a normally Single-Target spell into an Area Spell, centered upon the caster. The spell then affects all FRIENDLY targets within the area, a 20-foot burst.

A Communal Spell uses a spell slot Four levels higher than the modified spell.

So, for example: You could have Communal Improved Mage Armor as a 7th level spell. Or Communal Shield as a 5th.

Great for Summoners/Necromancers or otherwise people who summon lots of dudes or travel in large groups.

Thoughts? Comments? Witticisms?

Can't add new meta magic feats sadly. Could add them like in kingmaker as new mass spells but that's about it.

Or just make mass spells, after all mass cat's grace, mass bear's endurance etc, do exist.

If people wanted to keep such themed to metamagic ((always kinda liked the way some people roleplay meta Magic’s))

Could you just make them new Mass Spells but with requirement Of a Feat. Thus the new mass spells actually cost investment and capture the role play nature of meta magic abilities.

Kind of a way to get around not being able to sculpt new metamagic

You could also make new meta-magic, as X/day options. It still requires a trade-off (take a feat as always, can only be used a few times per rest), and it isn't perfect. But, it can be done in NWN2 at-least relatively easily(?).

Keep the current metamagic as is, and make new ones X/day. Maybe allow them used 3/day or some-such. Multiple picks could also be introduced, where you get 3/day on the first pick and 2/day on subsequent picks.

So, say you picked Communal Spell. You'd be able to use the feat 3/day, and it would make it so that your next friendly spell affects everyone around you. You can then take Extra Communal Spell I and Extra Communal Spell II, which give 2 more uses/day each.
