Litterbugs!!!! Shame on you!!!
How about we implement a script that instantly sends a litterbug to see Myrkul if they are within 50ft of a trash barrel?
Seriously?!?! Why drop the stuff at the merchants feet when the trashcan is RIGHT THERE!!!

I'll admit that sometimes I find an item the merchant won't buy (traps prevalently) and it's annoying that they don't buy it, and I'm not goin' to just throw it away. So, I throw it on the ground. Someone grabs it, fine. If not...

A way around this is to have everything at least 1 gold so people can sell off the junk even if they get almost nothing from it. Can't really do anything with junk if it is worth zero

This, right there. This, this and this.
Steins, empty wine bottles, broken items, and other "junk" that aren't worth anything to a merchant. I gather it ALL from the chests so someone doesn't have to, and YES, I gather other people's LITTER too. But when I get to the merchant and find out that half of what i picked up isn't worth ANYTHING, then yea..I'm gonna toss it a the feet of the merchant. Penny pinchin' bastard.

Re: Litterbugs!!!! Shame on you!!!
Often there are folks that drop some decently valuable stuff around hostile areas, so I often don't mind. And I usually pick up everything in my path, and put it in the treasure chests. It's more efficient and less tedious than starting and removing a campfire every time. However this is usually not the case when people litter in cities... it's nearly always garbage.
BTW are there IC laws that punish littering in Baldur's Gate or Sshamath? Would nice to know. I would prefer an IC approach to dealing with litterers.
Also would it be possible to make a script that can tell who dropped what? (For OOC obviously) This could be a nice way to know who the offenders are, as virtually all of them are utterly oblivious to the problem they are causing.

Re: Litterbugs!!!! Shame on you!!!
I'm not attempting to place blame or point fingers at anyone, but most of the junk that IS littered around literally is that - junk. It can't be sold. If it can't be sold, then it's unnecessary weight that's just takin' up space for more valuable stuff. Some cases, such as the empty beer wine bottles, steins, and broken items, that, as far as I can tell, INTENTIONALLY have no value, will be left layin' around simply because they're garbage by default. If those items were gone, then that'd be a little less litter layin' around.
Unfortunately, that would require a full revamp of the loot tables. While I think it is SORELY needed, as finding junk ANYWHERE, but especially in VERY dangerous areas, or +1 hp items in same is common, it's not exactly high on the priority list as of late to fix.

Had a fun RP encounter recently, calling a character out for littering at the FAI merchant when there was a trash barrel five feet away.

I'm always going round picking up trash other people cant be bothered picking up when they are grinding, then dumping it in a camp fire. Get's really annoying when your str 8 character is having to waste time and weight allowance clearing up after an OOC grinder who's bio says they're str 20+ but who can't be bothered pausing for a second to pick up their crap.

Kill em all and let the gods sort then out! I gotta admit it does get annoying seeing crap everywhere. Used to get you in a lot of trouble with the DMs if they saw it too!

Player A: "Hey look, a drow!"
Player B: "Who cares! SOMEONE IS LITTERING OVER THERE! KILL IT WITH FIRE!"
Seems plausible

Maybe there's just too much junk in the loot system?
