Dominate Person on a PC

Unread post by Max Hatchet »

What happens if you cast Dominate Person on a PC?

If it’s not going to work mechanically can you RP it as a spell (presumably you need the player to go along with it?)

Assuming the person failed all its saves, immunities and the like.

Assuming the player is positive and agrees?

I imagine follow the spell with all the rules and flavor as written with the addition of the servers normal pvp restrictions. Including they get to op out when ever, and you don’t get to complain. Final consequence is in the “victims” hands. Also probably once done can not be done again for another 24 hours - cause of pvp rules. Probably can’t keep a player under the spell for more then 3 days? - cause of pvp rules.

Think that is how it would work...

The dominate spells only dazes other PCs because a real dominate effect is buggy.

also, if they have mind blank or pfe (if you're evil) or pfg (if you are good) up then you first have to dispel that... Then of course their are items that have immunity (dominate person) on them which you would just have to take their word if they have it or not (I am assuming this would prevent the daze effect, but who knows?)... In any case, end of the day, as Mallore says there are just a lot of ways the other party could argue the spell has no effect and end of the day you just have to accept whatever reason they give you since pve rules say so.

However, if other parties are interested and accept the RP some fun stuff can happen.

Yes, i heard it didnt work mechanically

Anyone have any idea how it works as far as rp?

In the spell do you direct the victim telepathically or does the victim respond to verbal commands? I would presume verbal commands would be required.

Based on the SRD it is a telepathic link which you use to communicate commands to the dominated individual. If you share a common language you can do whatever you want, but if not you have to keep it to basic commands. Full description: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/dominatePerson.htm

Ah. Thanks. Interesting. So it’s not obvious you are controlling them

Suppose the only question is does a telepathic link require line of sight to send the message. Considering changing commands - is a redirect affect I would say yes.

Can you be in a locked room miles away? I would almost say you have to be with in the spells range to even send command... granted it may leave to preform that command but to issue a new one I would think you have to be in range as it does say issuing new commands is like a redirect of a spell which is limited by spell range most of the time.

So could you dominate and send them off and no one knows it’s you? Probably unless they got some magic. Can you control someone in the same room of a bunch of people - depends on the people. Someone may or will notice. After all to notice someone undercontrol is only dc15.
