The tale of a fallen angel (Kaliel Haldur)

Unread post by CartMid »

Everything was normal in the realms of Lunia, the first layer of mount Celestia... The silver sea was flowing perfectly and the stars were brighter than ever...

The villagers on the farmlands just outside Baldur's gate looked to the skies and could see a burst of light. After that a fiery ball was falling from the sky...

Kaliel Haldur was almost naked in a boat when he first woke up. He tried to remember who he was or what he was doing there but his mind was clouded. He asked a priest in the boat what were their destination and the priest kindly said:

- We will reach the city of Baldur's Gate in moments my good man... can I ask who are you?

Kaliel Answered:

- I am.... Kaliel...

The priest talked again:

- Ah... So tell me, Kaliel... Who is your god?

Kaliel thought for a moment, and then answered:

- I am... Loyal to Tyr... That's the only thing I know...

The priest smiled at Kaliel and said:

- That's the only thing you really need to know, my good child...

After a few moments they arrived in the city of Baldur's Gate.

Kaliel walked out of the boat and began to explore his surroundings. There was so much to see... So much to learn. But he could not learn the most important things he cared about. Who was he? And why was he there?

He was confused... The wind blew and and his hair flew along with it. Suddenly he felt something was flowing through his body... Something like... Arcane Magic? He tried to cast something and ended up blowing a nearby barrel. He had to run before somebody arrived.

After discovering that, he bought a sword and armor with the gold he had with him (though he did not know why) and went to pratice somewhere safe.

Kaliel was practicing his swords skills when he found a familiar face nearby the entrance of cloakwood. He apporached the man who offered a place by his campfire.

The man seemed wise and told Kaliel he came from a place called "The High Forest" and his name was Tarsakh. He was a druid.

After a long conversation the druid explained Kaliel both of them were Aasimars, and they kind had traces of celestial blood, even beared marks like the ones Kaliel had along his body.

By the mention of Marks a brief memory came in Kaliel's mind:

- These are celestial bearings... they are common amongst angels... Maybe I am an angel?

Tarsakh smiled and said:

- I am glad you remembered something, but I can't tell further than this... it's a mistery even to me.

After the conversation, Kaliel thanked the druid and went to the town of candlekeep in hurry to find out what he could about angels and his marks.

Kaliel discovered much about angels, but it was of little help for him to discover about his past.

He continued his training along the tradeway and had just killed an attacking gnoll when a man in red armor showed up. Kaliel have heard of the Flaming Fist.

The man in red armor congratulated Kaliel and told and presented himself.

The man said that the Fist could use Kaliel's skills in their ranks and as he was already helping cleaning the roads it would only be a matter of getting paid for it.

Kaliel considered the idea and went with the man to the Flaming Fist headquarters to be inducted into the mercenaries guild.

The recruiter gave Kaliel new arms and armor and told him about the rules about being a fist. Then, he sent Kaliel to his first day of patrol...

Kaliel was just leaving the farmlands for his first day of duty when he spotted a drow.

According to the rules of the Flaming Fist, drow should be killed on first sight. Kaliel hesitated. He thought about quitting, when asked to himself "Why that creature deserved to die?"

But he had taken an oath. And he couldn't break it now. He attacked the drow and with a blow of his sword in the drow's neck Kaliel took his life.

- Tyr... forgive me...

Kaliel went back to the gate carrying the drow from the back of his armor when the two men at the gate came to him.

- Do as you must... He was trying to cross the tradeway.

Saying that, Kaliel went towards the temple of Tyr ignoring the last words of the man that had the dead drow in his arms now.
