This Covid19 has shut down nations, and, while I understand the anomaly of Italy skews it and that should be investigated, COVID-19 is considered a low risk disease for most people that catch it.

Its not healthy for the world to shutter up like this for a prolonged period of time.
H1n1 had a fatality rate of .02%

Coronavirus has a fatality rate of 2%

Its 100x as deadly

Social media indeed makes it worse. Hungarian facebook is full of "spiritual healers" talking about how the coronavirus is a hoax, and it's just a means by which the government seeks to control us, round us up for their unleashing of the 5G microwave radiowaves which will cause political dissidents to collapse and puke blood.

People eat that dumb contheo up and go out on the streets and spread the virus around.

There's variations where government is replaced with other groups, fit for whatever hated enemy the audience has.

Rather than a flat curve that hospitals can keep under control, thanks to these idiots, we'll get a number of deaths.

From restaurants that didn't close, I also hear mothers with their vulnerable toddles and babies go in near midnight amidst crowds to get some fries and burgers.

I quit my job in feburary this year, the pandemic has really negatively impacted my job searching attempts, currently me and my family are holed up in an appartment that we haven't left for 2 weeks straight.

I'd like to say we use this time to bond and better ourselves but honestly, I'm starting to feel I'm slowly mentally regressing.

Czech Republic put down restrction since the very few cases found.

I still am angry at them for being so slow and only "reccomending" not to visit Italy back in January. Sadly even with reccomending travel agencies and opposition voters began hatred campaign on our PM calling him populist for saiyng that and how They are going to ignore it.

Then quarantine for returning people was passed down but boasting how ignoring it and not telling anyone you were in Italy or callin others just being jealous on you skying in empty touristic centers is act of being jealous was common.

Now none of those heroes would dare to peek around corner. Week after that we all went into travel bans, enforced quarantine. Onlyfood stores and groceries are open, people 65+ are reserved time 8am-10am for shopping. No more grouping than 2 people.

To work, back home. I spent thousends on re equipping for our newly planned attempts to restart arsoft group and boom. no airsoft least until late of year.

Also cannot play wargames. Team Yankee tournament in Wroclaw in February was apparently my last one for many months to come (perhaps, it implies to paint hundreds of models i own still in boxes :d).

Generally, thanks to undisciplined people we all now suffer, nearly 90% origin of our virus comes from Italy. But quick harsh reaction of goverment, who unlike nearly all western Europe, prefered to slow it down and pay economical cost over keeping money running, we got to 6 000 cases cca, and dayily increase started to drop (!!!) each day now. We are up to about 52 dead at the monent. It counts also nurse dieing of exhausting, three old men dieing from cancer and other ilnesses. so we are good. Our hospitals keep capacity of 3 000 immediete rooms for severe doing pacients but we are about 100-200 of serious cases only.

Within few months we may see the light in the end of tunnel, but all around us begin to snowball infection which means we will remain in isolation for a year, the main epidemy specialist leading operations speaks even about 2 years of closed borders. Farewell Shengen!

What is most sad that big number of our infection comes from iresponsible people. Like pacients lieing They (do not) meet infected ones, and then 30 nurses and 10 doctors end up in quarantine or infected. I really hope my country starts to hand out severe penalty as according to the law can be up to 5 years in prison and 3 millions of fine finally.

As far as my job concerns, i am fine. Our firm, a frenchize of american Pyrotek company holding, has no infected despite the region it produces in has over 10 cases. Hell, even public transport i kept using in mornings saw some people carried from it when They collapsed inside bus. Until February we had work only for about a week as chinese and other industry was shut down because of virus, but now They began to re open and also competition company producing ceramic foam filters sufferes from virues among employes and closing and reducing production, so we got a lot to do. But noone really knows who is infected, math models predict 30% of the officially registred as still not uncovered, so, anyone around me or even i can at any moment, carry the virus. I také pre caution and suspended any visit to any family members to keep them safe.

So i will finish this post with a czech message to the world:

First and foremost to Planehopper and JCVD1 and anyone else dealing with significant life altering losses during what is already a difficult time for all of us, my heartfelt condolences. I have dealt with the loss of a parent and more recently a sibling long before their time (dad, cancer-2008, brother, pulmonary embolism-2019). My only thing I can say to you is just realize anyone who has not been through something similar has no way to know that there is literally nothing they can say or do. When folks say 'it'll get better with time' or 'it's going to be ok' or any of the other things you say when you don't know what to say, just try to remember that you probably would not wish what you are going through on anyone...so don't think poorly on them when they say things that make you feel worse in the moment, because they only speak out of ignorance...an ignorance you will wish you still had.

As to all the varying COVID 19 arguments on mortality...

- The overall deathrate based on detail from worldometers is about 6% right now. 116,000 deaths vs. 1.87M cases. Even the death rate in the US is up to 4% now.
- The death rate is higher in places that were not able to 'flatten the curve' which overwhelmed their healthcare services. It is not about having poor healthcare or being in 3rd world countries. It is simply that there are only so many beds, so many ventilators and so many healthcare providers to try and treat the virus.
- The lowest death rates are in Countries that either a) are a bit backwater so limited/no exposure or b) places like Germany where (thanks to being the first to design and produce tests) they are able to test early and often, and treat those who contract COVID before they even have symptoms, which can make the symptoms less severe. However, even Germany has had it's fatality percentage jump from below 1% a couple weeks ago to over 2% (which they knew was going to happen as eventually the need for tests overwhelmed the ability to produce those tests.)

So like I tell my Mom when she argues BS like 'if it's my time it's my time'... It is not about you. It is about ensuring that as many people who need care, receive care. It is about giving healthcare providers more time to ramp up whatever resources they can in order to support the inevitable spikes. Social distancing and other quarantine impositions are not going to stop the spread of the virus. In fact, what will likely happen is lockdowns will start being lifted in June and a second lockdown will become necessary when additional spikes occur late summer. You just have to remember that while you may be considered 'young, healthy and the type that will most likely survive' if you are not following quarantine rules you are potentially draining resources away from others which in turn will increase the overall death rate.

All of this said, the impact to me specifically is minimal. I am thankful my job duties, while different are still very much needed by my employer and more than able to do them from home. The lack of traveling has been nice to get some family time in, though my son, wife and I are disappointed as baseball is my sons favorite thing in the world...some things are just more important. Truly feel awful for the many families and individuals not as lucky as I who are struggling trying to figure out how to manage financially during this crisis. Just hopeful that all of us can band together and come out stronger on the other side.

Cheers everyone, hope each of you are staying healthy and safe.

For myself, with well wishes going out to everyone affected here, I have been very fortunate. We have been able to easily distance ourselves, as my wife works from home already. I was sent home three weeks ago and am still able to perform 90% of my previous duties. My son. now 8, gets to stay home and play most of the day, with daddy homeschooling him through a good bit of work.

It is hard to realize that, even with all the bad going on, there is room to be thankful for what people DO have. Those of us that are fortunate to be free of sickness or loss can still reach out to our friends and family, if we cant visit directly.

Anyway, This has given me the opportunity to return to the BGTSC family, and i am very happy to see many of the veterans still playing and the community thriving.

So far things are going well in my state. Infection numbers are relatively low and thus far the hospitals have not been overburdened. Current model shows us passing the peak in about 1-2 weeks and then things are supposed to start getting better. If the current model holds the state should be back to normal by June. I certainly hope that is the case... if summer gets canceled because of this virus i will be royally pissed lol.

That's not what these models mean at all.

The models assume you maintain the controls your state has already enacted. Social distancing, closures of bars, only essential businesses allowed to operate. No large gatherings.

If everyone decides the virus is over and has a massive party, it's going to come roaring back. Hardly anyone has antibodies and people who have not had the virus are not immune. A vaccine is around a year away.

I'm a photographer in UK who mostly shoots techno parties but cos of a knee problem i was only working once a week anyway.

Now there are no parties - probably none till a vaccine - so no work. Plus no other photography work like portrait or fashion that i sometimes do.

However i am in deepest countryside with a nice garden. We have stocked up on food and we have four sheep in our field for an emergency!

So in some ways my life is sort of the same at the moment.

I am worried about how UK is heading. We may be worst affected country in the world soon.

I want to remind you that this is about how it is affecting you personally. Let's not get into how countries are acting on it, or into the disease itself too much.

How is this affecting you.

I really needed to hear this. I lost my mom to cancer last week. Thank you for this.

I work maintenance at a nursing home, so I'm already back to work helping out. We don't have any confirmed cases and we're trying our best to keep our patients safe. Everyone coming into the building or leaving has their temperature taken, everyone on staff is wearing masks at all times, and there's a bunch of new policies about hand washing and gloves. It's all uncomfortable and really slows us down, but no one is complaining.

Personally not much has changed for me. I'm still an introvert who only leaves the house for groceries. My sister and I are weathering this storm with my dad so we can see each other without breaking quarantine. I have a paper from my work saying I'm an essential employee and can be driving around, but I don't want to push my luck.
