Goblins would be a cool player race. I'm not sure if that's something we'd someday do or not, as I have literally not talked about this with anyone: I just saw "goblin PC" and thought "that would be cool." :P I'm not talking as an admin with an intent to push in that direction or anything. Just commenting on the cool factor of having a little ninja goblin running around.

it would be nice to have sneaker race , it would help get more dedicated monsterous races. Some players just like sneakers

An orc sneaker archer would be fairly strong as is, but I guess you meant melee.

Yeah a player pack of goblins, that could be awesome as comic relief.
Id vote for it any day.

yea honestly if we got a few more monster races, I wouldn't mind if they shifted orcs and the other races to kill on sight in the good type cities.

I think that would be a fair trade off, and soubar is still alright for questing.

Uhm...not to throw this thread off-track, but many races of Faerun actually consider Humans a monster (like) Race!!!

Monster races are the races from the monster manual. PC's should not be monster races. Orcs were a mistake that we have to live with now, no need to add more to the pile.

Well monster race player characters have been around since 2ed so I don't think ever intended is correct. And elves and dwarves were in the original monster manual. Just saying.

On another note, grey orcs should be just orc. That would mean players could use the more civilized greys or barbaric mountain if they chose. We're there are specific regions of player race, there is a variety to choose from. Like elves and dwarves. Where they are more generalized, like human, half-elf, aasimar, there are no set boundaries upon the area as long as the DM Team sees it fit.

Also a goblin should be no more comic relief than a hin is. A sneaky goblin would be quite formidable. And Lore suggests that goblins kings have become very powerful inside the goblinoid community in Tolkien and FR settings. The blueprint for goblin player race I think is in the Dragonlance setting. Along with minotaur and ogre if I recall correctly. DL ogres might be quite different though and obviously the minotaur are very different socially. The goblin in contrast is very similar.

That may be true, but I just can't see how could monster players "live" around Baldur's Gate or anywhere near civilization without getting slaughtered almost everywhere. Just because there are almost lawless places that doesn't mean they would welcome monster races. Also new areas for monster races would be a problem when in other topics there were discussions about reducing the number of areas to make the server more stable.

Goblins would HAVE to be similar to orc in that regard. Goblin players would not have access to city quests. Would be seemed aggressive by human, elf, dwarf, hin. Would need a place were they could get supplies without godmodding NPC guards. I don't think soubar is going anywhere and all that is accommodating there. Lastly. Goblins are not dumb. They are one of the more clever and adaptable races. They would be like the cutthroat that if brought up in better circumstances would have been a scholar. But instead uses the higher intelligence to cause problems and get out of bg trouble .

Bump on this. Wouldn't mind a rename to Mountain Orc, or alternatively just another option with the same stats etc called Mountain Orcs as well as Grey Orcs if people particularly want to play as Grey Orcs.

Bump as well, im quite interested in playing a mountain orc, you eventually get tired of humans, elves and dwarves.
