Jyn Rogue

That... is me... well, me and my father posing for this work of art. Our stance looks kinda real, but mind you, even though this pose was staged for our painting, there were actually situations during our lives where we were standing back to back in similar ways, but where the moments where we were living in were dire enough to make even a Calishite gladiator piss his pants. Assuming he got one that is. But we, me and my dad? Together we were fearless, undaunted, and we were always ready to sacrifice ourselves for the greater good, should it ever come to that. Our methods and our techniques differed, but our mindset was one, and in combat we could grow together as if we were one entity. Dad showed me everything there was to learn about wielding a sword, and of course on how to become a majestic silver-haired Crusader. And me? I showed him how things were done on the street, much to his frustration. Yet he learned that there is wisdom -and- even useful knowledge in every aspect of life. Or maybe he only said so because he felt guilty over all that time he needed to catch up with me after spending years on the road as a Soldier of Light. My dad is a knight you know, a paladin of the Order of the Aster even. His name is Gerofind Goldwalker, and I swear to you that family name is for real. We are descendants from a celestial ancestor, but I guess you could also say our name matches well with our deity, the Lord of Morning, or rather the Rose-and-Gold god. My name is Jasmine, Jyn for short, like how my friends call me. My dad however has his own pet name for me, and that one is Rogue. Mind you, it was Cheat first, but I liked Rogue more. So, to most people I’m known as Jyn Rogue, and that’s also how I tend to introduce myself. Well, save for when meeting people in more official circles of course. So, in the meantime my dad more or less has retired with his age becoming closer to eighty than to seventy. That however does not mean that I have quit. In a way I intend to continue my father’s work, and all alone, yep. I am not afraid nor am I pessimistic about my chances of success.
Dawn... is after all born at midnight…

Name : Jasmine Goldwalker, aka Jyn Rogue

Race : Aasimar

Age : Late twenties

Gender : Female

Hair : Deep, soulful black. Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare ya.

Eyes : Like pennies laying at the bottom of a wishing well.

Favorite weapon : I know my weaponology and I’m a big fan of crusaders, so a longsword it is.

Deity : Lathander

Trained as : Uh… I suppose you could call it a ‘resourceful paladin’?

Goals : Well, like I said, I am in my father’s footsteps. I fear however I may not be as conservative as he is, so I don’t know yet if I’ll join the Order myself. Not because I may feel uncertain, but they might! I do however wish to protect the land and the people from the rush of evil and other enemies. For my own career I felt that I needed a change of surroundings, so we moved away from Waterdeep. And since my dad insisted on having a Morning temple nearby, we picked Beregost as our new home base. We bought ourselves a nice farm there, and while dad works the land, I’ll visit Baldur’s Gate and the land in between to… well don’t be too curious!

Moire Rouge : 'Coins are flat, and are meant to be piled up.'
Juniper : 'Your local tinkerer!'
Kitty -Less hell, more cat-
Athyna of Apecoe -Titan in progress-
Erickar Avery -More than meets the eye-

More story about me :

My story begins in the Land of the Purple Dragon where I was born in 1328 to a woman named Lorraine Thorel. She lived in the fortified city of Arabel where many mercenaries were stationed, including my father who back at the time wasn’t a paladin yet. At least not officially.
First, I wasn’t very proud of it, but my mother worked as a cleaning lady at the Watchful Lynx, an inn who saw to customers with lesser means. Although dad was already 48 by the time my parents got me, as an Aasimar he still appeared as if in the prime of his life. Just a little white here and there. He doesn’t like me to call it grey, but ‘silver’ is acceptable. That is my petname for him by the way.
Duty however called him often to a life on the road, and as he gathered fame (unintentionally) and got himself beaten to knighthood… wait… that sounded different than intended. Anyways, my mom and I were often on our own, but father saw to it time to time money was sent to us for a better life. So far so good, until my mother was abducted and killed by goblins while she was gathering herbs. I must have been seven by then when dad returned for a longer period.

Eventually he decided we’d move to Marsember. There, I was left in the care of a nanny and later on an au pair while my dad fulfilled his duties for the local Lathandrite temple, the Morningmist Hall. Sometimes me and my au pair went there to visit and see him. Most of the time though I only got to see the beautiful interior more often than him.
Dad was extremely loyal and altruistic for that matter, something I have blamed him for several years. When I was a teenager he even vanished at some point for two or three years. I remember he tried to explain before he went, but at that time I was far too stubborn to listen, let alone understand ‘the’ what and why. He was my only family, and not that bloo… excuse me… that wearing au pair. More and more I went out on the streets on my own, sneaking out our place if I had to, and getting to know people, and making (bad) friends!
I confess I’ve commited a few smaller crimes like stealing apples or other food from market stallholders, or tresspassing places just to see how far I could get with a pretty smile and a bluff for thrills. A couple of times I’ve even made it as a servant to parties only meant for nobles. Speaking of a party crasher huh?
Now, this went on for only a brief time of my life, but it felt like I picked up more than in some stuffy study room. Yeah, I was so unlike my dad, and yet... we are similar in ways too.

At some time he returned, permanently so he claimed. Of course it took him some time to convince me, but after he had been home for a full 6 months, with only some weekly duties at the local temple, me and dad grew closer again. I discovered I was curious about his adventures and willing to learn. That’s when he started training me, and when he learned I had some talent as well as ‘light’ hidden within me, it all became an official thing. By the time I was eighteen, together with dad and other Lathandrites we hunted smugglers and pirates. And since those were often a devious and underhand lot, I was a nice addition to the hunting parties.
During my time on the street I had learned a couple of tricks like trapfinding and scanning for weaknesses in defenses. I never got the time to turn into a master of disabling any, just being one of opportunities was enough. In the beginning it was odd to patrol and fight by my dad’s side, yet I also started to learn and understand more why he was like he was. And wonderment oh wonderment, I discovered candles may be different, but their light is the same.

By the time dad turned 70, we moved to Waterdeep. I had no problem whatsoever with that, as long as we could work together. Of course I had grown concerned about his age, but like I said earlier, as an descendant from a celestial ancestor, he still displayed a robust physique. Often we went down underneath the city, a couple of times even all the way up to the first chambers of Undermountain where we pushed back escaped monsters, thieves and convicts. More than once we also clashed with members of the Xanathar guild, a powerful group which seemed hard to exterminate, and likely not just cause of an effective and equipped stronghold, but also due their relations with certain other groups. We assumed a lot of corruption was involved, perhaps even with ties between the Xanathar and certain nobles.
I myself don’t like political games that very much, even as I’d rather be good at it myself if I wanted. Anyways, with looking at my father’s retirement (though he doesn’t like to call it like that yet), and with me sensing that strange itch my dad always has had of being on the road, we decided to travel down south. With Beregost having a temple and well looked over by the Lathandrites, we think we might fit there well. Until… well, I hope it will still take a long time, but until my father becomes part of the Light.
Maybe I should join the Order of the Aster before it comes to that. I know it would make him proud.

The old farm just outside Beregost did more than fine for the two of us. The surrounding acres, well, they are a bit more of a pain in the… well, you know what. First of all, they are large and they are hilly. Regularly we also find travelers marching through them. In itself not a problem, unless it are monsters. Needless to say, we were going to need some help. Hands to fertilize and work the land, and eyes and shields to protect it.

So these days I don’t wander off too far, and more than often visit the market and temple at Beregost in order to find volunteers and seasonal workers. Dad says we’re just fine, but you know, isn’t that what every 80 year old Aasimar says? I know he’s fine, heck, I know he’s still able to kick my... you know what. Every night after work he still wishes some time to train with me, just behind the farm. It then almost feels a bit like the old days, minus the threats and concerns of back then.

Dad is strong, but in a matter of years such can change rapidly. I have to remain aware of that. And I can’t run the farm on my own either. If I were to tell this to anyone, they’d remind me of the fact that this farm has been our choice, and that is so very true. I said yes to my dad because he wanted it, and because he appears to have some old ties with this region. What I don’t know is how long he has left. I never knew my grandfather, but I did learn he got almost 110 before he passed away.

Quite the age one might say, but it all depends on how you get there.

Meanwhile, I must admit my dad was right. About me and this new place. Already I have bumped into a few people who wish to involve me in an initiative that serves the land. Or rather also, its inhabitants. For now I’m keeping a minor distance as I also intend to make a pledge in the Song of Morning as soon as I’m accepted. And I first have to figure out if there could be any contradictions that would be totally unacceptable.

My gut tells me it will be alright. But with my paladin oath and all…

I’m so easily reminded of my past. Of some things I have done. Compared to others one might say it were only minor felonies and misdemeanors, but they were on the darker path. The positive part is that I have been on the other side, and that I have witnessed things I otherwise would only have learned from reports or books. Yet it actually never consumed me. For more than once I wondered if I could operate on both ends of the spectrum, all for the greater good of course.

... I don’t know…

Law and order, Jyn… law and order…

But what if said law and order drives people out of their homes, and tells them they no longer are part of the whole? Or where bribes were made in order for merchants to protect their shops? Like in Marsember, where corruption was disguised as such in the shape of the Marsember Watch?
