DM Protector wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 8:14 am In the Thundar's Pass, several heavily armoured figures and some not so made their way through the land, cutting down the Bugbears in their path as they cleared the way forward. Some traders witnessed them travelling further up river only to return hours later with a wagon in tow filled to the brim with supplies as it was carted back to Soubar shortly after. As questions began to rise about what happened, word among those in Soubar says that House Blackrose salvaged stolen goods from a Bugbear encampment, avenging those who had fallen before the beasts.
Rumored reports of organized "Bugbears." on "Thundars ride" would reach the "Northern Outpost." A Force would be sent out post haste to investigate and deal with the threat.
Image

Skirmishes could be seen along "Thundars ride" As "Blackrose" forces and the organized bugbears clashed.

A caravan could be seen waylaid and pulled over on the side of the road the cargo taken and many of those that had travelled with it dead.
The "Blackrose" force would follow the blood and drag marks up river until they would reach a "Bugbear" encampment.
A fierce battle would ensue until the leader was drawn out and after a brief exchange of words would be slain.

"The "Blackrose" force could be seen escorting a wagon of supplies after the Battle to "Soubar."

Image

They would be met half way by their Militia and escorted the rest of the way.
Later that day the Militia could be seen recovering the bodies of the dead on "Thundars ride" and giving them a burial.
Amelia Blackrose - Matriarch of House Blackrose, Proprietor of the Northern Outpost. Presumed dead

Another day, and more volunteers from the Whitewood Vanguard arrive in Triel. This time its Captain Dunn, Ranger Brillvingoth, and an outsider, Lily Summerheart, though the latter does arrive with the Vanguard volunteers.

Brillvingoth's natural inspirations can adapt to aid just about any situation laid before him. On this visit, Dunn is spending time creating and updating his maps of the surrounding area. As for Lily, she helped here and there.

Another day, and three more Whitewood Vanguard show up to Triel. Captain Dunn, Ranger Jillian, and Ranger Vox.

The trio go about their tasks with the Captain in particular eager to assist on any Hellrider patrols likely to see a skirmish.

The Half-elven Jon Smythe arrives in the North, veering off from the Tradeway now and then, a map in hand...and at times seeming quite lost, even as he consults this map (for those that may pass him in their own use of the Tradeway).

Some passersby may even reach their destinations, and may speak of encounters with Smythe, relaying a tale something like "...and he kept asking if I point out the road to Triel...," or "...have you seen or carry knowledge of the Vanguard that is rumored to patrol in the area," or "...have you seen or heard of the Hellriders in these parts?"

At one point, Smythe known to arrive at what seems a refugee outpost on the Northern Tradeway, but not learning too much behind it in his short rest stop, he is said to have moved on.

Image

Later, Smythe could be easily seen by travelers of the Tradeway sitting on some bend or in a quieter valley of the road, just...relaxing. Should a curious being ask to what makes a man looking and dressed as Jon Smythe is to recline in such a idyllic yet abandoned spot, he would reply: "The best way to find a ranger and his friends...is to let them find you." He then taps an index finger to his own temple, and smiles at they who would ask. He seems rather pleased with himself.

For those present often within the farmlands to the East of Baldurs Gate. They would notice that an increased activity between members of House Vale and the Order of the Radiant Heart has been occurring daily. The groups would meet up, dressed for battle, and laden with supplies.

These two groups would take a Northern route towards Thundars Ride, and the Fields of the Dead, alternating daily.

For what reason? It will be apparent to many that the groups have taken an interest alongside others in the increased Undead presence in the region, and would appear to be co-operating in regards to these efforts.

The Vanguard shows up to Triel for another day of volunteering, Captain Dunn returns with Ranger Durald, and Ranger Ezrel. There may even have been a weasel in and amongst the trio this time - yes yes yes!

They report in as they have on past days, touching base with Captain Vanders.

A large collection of assorted wildflowers tied together by a dip-dyed thread would be seen nearby, they are tied to a tree, so that as the wind shakes the bows, the gentle rustling of the leaves spreads petals evenly upon the vigil.

This night, four of the Vanguard show up at once to volunteer, Captain Dunn, Sergeant Ril, Rangers Jillian and Vox.

Tired and worn out from patrols elsewhere, they make camp in the fort awhile before volunteering here and there.

In the small settlement of Winding Waters, a red-haired tiefling in red and violet robes can be seen asking around about the residence of the person in charge of the village. Eventually she would deliver a sealed missive there.

In Soubar and the Northern Tradeway, parchments are scattered and posted with the following message:

"Those who seek refugee and mercy under the tyrant hands will only encounter slavery and servitude under an iron fist of order, to the banites like the Blackrose matron or the Soubar banites, the farmer is at the same level of a pig that needs to be slaughtered for dinner.

There's a place for you in the south, no need to live in fear" Image

A dark, masked figure takes a look at the noticeboard in Soubar. Upon reading the Ilmatari pamphlet, she feels compelled to write her own response at the bottom, in wispy, thin letters:

Bold words... and oh so sweet. It's almost tempting to prove them wrong, but I like my head where it is.

I have no great love for the Banites, but your Dukes aren't paragons of justice, either.

The Vigilator looks at one of the flyers as he orders a drink from Mags' bar and chuckles as he looks to Mags.

"Well at least the locals got some free outhouse-paper."

Upon leaving the tavern he goes to one posted on the bulletin board and attaches a memo of his own to the single illmatari post he leaves remaining.
The illmatari fear, a faith who promotes poverty and suffering, under them a farmer struggles to provide for their families, they survive off rations when Auril's winters strike. They claim to offer you hope by offering you nothing but suffering, but Bane provides, he does not allow his faithful and their families to suffer and starve so that others may eat. Slavery, this is a term used to evoke a negative reaction by those that seek to see their peasantry suffer while criminals are fed off that suffering. A farmer of Zhentil Keep does not starve, they do not suffer. Criminals who have broken laws which clearly state their punishments pay for these crimes by working the farmer's fields, providing food to the lawful citizens and easing the stress of a greatly needed profession. The illmatari would rather you suffer, working every sun filled hour of the day just to be able to provide for your families and feed those criminals locked away in cells doing nothing but draining the life of a hard working man or woman. So ask yourself, would you rather suffer under them or thrive elsewhere?

Through Bane there is opportunity, success, order.
