Return on Investment: Is it Financially Feasible to Play a Thrown Axe Build?
I like the idea of a new character using BGTSCC's custom feat: Brutal Throw. What impresses me about this feat is the ability to build a ranged-weapon character that can actually carry away the loot he or she may find.
Currently, I have a Warslinger with an Appraise Skill Score of 29. This enables him to purchase 1d6 Bullets of Fire for roughly ~2,500 gps per stack of 500 [99 bullets @ 480 - 500 gps]. I took the same character into Shady's Store and the best price I can get for Trollaxes is ~683 gps [50 axes @ 683]. That's ~6,830 per stack of 500. ((Note: I understand Trollaxes and Bullets are Fire are not the same... They are, however, adequate for a back-of-the-napkin comparison)).
Question: Is it financially feasible to play a thrown axe build on BGTSCC? If so, what is the best way to go about it without going broke?
Thank you in advance for insights!!
Cheers

It's extremely expensive, just as you described with sling and fire bullets, except with slings you can at least equip mundane ones to save money when fighting weak enemies. You can still make much more money than you waste, expenses are just very high.
Brutal throw builds are really good in terms of raw damage output and very easy to build compared to the said slingers though, so at least they're worth it.

What if we added ammo recovery to the server? The axes don't just disappear. A certain fraction of them are probably recoverable.
I happen to know someone who made a system like this for another server. You can set the percentage recovery rate for different ammo types, and probably other variables.
If devs are interested drop me a message.

This sounds like a reasonable option for axes, arrows, and certainly bolts... however, as someone who has dabbled in reloading his own ammunition I doubt this could sensibly apply to bullets.
Another option would be to create a BGTSCC custom feat called "Stalker's Guild" or the like... this feat would enable anyone with it to purchase ammunition, i.e. bullets, bolts, thrown axes, arrows, etc. at the Guild rate. The said rate would allow for an approximate 40 percent discount to any consumables bought in bulk.
I would gladly use a feat to secure such a discount. Call it the "Able Learner" equivalent to securing financial freedom for a ranged-weapon player.
Cheers!

Devs would be able to set at what percentage each ammo type would be able to be recovered. Bullets might be able to be recovered only 5 percent of the time, or arrows 50 percent, whatever.

It can be financially feasible if you find a way to make do with mundane axes and only use expensive axes in dire situations, like for boss fights. If it were possible to get unlimited axes with EB, it would be more comfortable.
I currently play an axe-thrower and have made quite a bit of gold!

I didn't realize there was a market for throwing axes
! Now that I know and since I find them all the time, I can post them heavily discounted on the auction board rather than just giving them away at a nearby merchant.

Thank you! I've seen your character and was always intrigued by the relative cost vs. your success in-game. Cheers!RagingPeace wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 11:55 amI currently play an axe-thrower and have made quite a bit of gold!
