The gamblors have been in game for how long? Safe to say a long while...

Now all the sudden they are a problem?

If we are going to bring RL problems IG, then we should handle it like RL. The person has a problem? Opt out of the mechanic and have it check for log in name. Just like taking a loved one to a casino and having them sign a ban slip.

There are plenty of people that can handle gambling in this world. Doesn't matter if it is a solo thing. Some people may enjoy it, without a problem.

At the risk of sounding rude, I'm just going to ask the obvious question: How many players enjoy, much less use that gamblor thing?
How this darned thing even warrants a discussion/debate is beyond me. I think you people just like to argue ;)

I've never touched it. I don't even know why it's in-game. IMHO, it's a waste of server resources, even if it's only 0.0000378 nano-bytes of server space.

Addiction behaviors require a reward recognized by the brain, which causes continued behavior to get the reward (TLDR our brains are jerks). A quick Google Scholar search shows there are copious research papers regarding the neurobiology of addiction and gambling.

Let's apply this to the game.

You drink in game, your brain doesn't recognize this as a reward.

You do drugs in game, that doesn't give your brain the incentive to continue.

If you gamble in game, this does create a real chemical response in your brain that it recognizes as a reward. The behavior continues. I found some research that virtual gambling can be more addictive than in-person gambling.

This is why companies are spending millions of dollars to convince states to allow online sports betting and other gambling. They know gambling is addictive and they all want some of that sweet, sweet revenue.

Whether BGTSCC allows the gamblor to remain or not is a choice.

If using the gamblor is a solo activity then it's not really enhancing RP among players. If there is no real RP value to the gamblor (I did not know it existed) then I suggest it be removed.

The compassionate thing to do is realize a player -- a real person -- is suffering because of this mechanic and consider ways to mitigate that suffering.

I can for my part say I have no stake in this, as I never touched the dumb thing to begin with. I'd be happy to see it removed if it helps someone IRL get their life in order.

Titles rated T (Teen) have content that is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

Simulated Gambling does seem to be allowed in a PG-13 game. And to be fair, loot boxes in other games are far worse as they imply the use of real money.

I have no stake in the gamblor machine, but I do think removing it is a slippery slope. I would propose a compromise of moving the Gamlbor to the Temple of Tymora though, would make more sense in game as well.

could also make it limited, like you can only play once per reset or something. I believe the implementation of it was meant to offer a fun new mechanic that allowed folks to spend a bit of gold on the off chance they might get an epic loot or whatever and I know the builder that did most of the work has a heart of gold and had no intent on causing anyone issues IRL...

PG-13 is a jack-of-all-trades rating. A little of everything, but not too much, and not too descriptive. While the server claims to be PG-13, there are some stipulations that sets it aside from PG-13 entirely. Though a talk about that is for another topic entirely.

I don't think Tymora would appreciate casino machines in her temples. She is about taking changes, and gambling on good fortune, particularly among friends. But slots machines doesn't seem to fit her portfolio. That would be more in line Beshaba, who encourages misfortune, which slots machines definite are (house always wins).

Gambling is not immoral like it has been stated before. Saying so is defamatory. Removing the gamblor will not help the OP either, who seems to have a genuine problem. If members of this community really care about the well being of the OP, they should try to get in touch with him and get him the help he needs for the problem that he has. Everything else is for the eyes only.

Players do role-play gambling, playing cards, placing wagers. Removing it will be just another silly restriction on top of the so many others this PW has. God forbid someone with a gaming disorder posts here. Are we to stop playing altogether? I would assume that this would have been considered silly. Not anymore.

I mean... GAMBLOR is literally named after a Simpsons joke and the only occasional use of it I have seen is people running in while my character is playing cards or trying to hold a meeting in the nearby room and spamming buttons. Thankfully I have figured out how to move the chat spam from my main chat to my combat log but GAMBLOR was why I originally bothered to dig around for that setting.

I'm not sure a magical slot machine where millions of gold can appear and disappear adds anything but 4th wall breaking to the server. Changing things can be like pulling teeth though.

So for my part I am entirely for removing GAMBLOR as it really feels OOC to me with its name and how automated the gold appearing and disappearing is. It might as well be sitting in Nexus... at least then it wouldn't disturb people playing cards!

Whatever else aside, gambling is in her portfolio. I'm not sure where your source is for making any sort of distinction, and think you're wrong for making one.
