1 bug / 1 question

Unread post by Scorpius »

Hi
I got some question and maybe it could also help at some point lol
Or at least open up some questionning on your side

It is about fey

I saw there will be a feytouch class coming up
I know there is also a background feat called fey heritage

Now my question
First thing

Spirit shaman can "detect" or use the "chastise spirit" skill or any other SS skill on : spirit and other ennemy considered spirits like : elemental and fey

That fey part is my concern

That said... Are you going to add or is there already a tag for those fey background and feytouch so the SS (spirit shaman) can do his thing.

I'm mostly asking for rp reasons

Other then that...
Second thing

I was fighting some monsters recently with my SS. The monster name did have "spirit" in it
Spirit Naga

Yet, my SS skills did not work on it, so, conclusion, the spirit tag is missing

I suppose there might be more spirits out there with that missing tag

Thank you for your time
And i will inform the team is i see more

Spirit Naga are Large Aberrations, not spirits. They get their name because they auto-raise from the dead unless you use powerful magic, like Wish.

I believe it's up to the player to decide whether or not they wish to reveal their fey heritage (or anything similar), not something that is (or should be) up to one-click mechanics. If you're interested in learning about a character, might I suggest sending the player a tell and inquiring what might be learned through RPing your Spirit Shaman's skillset? Storytelling is a collaborative effort, after all. 😊

Regarding Feytouched, and heritage, I assume its going to work like Planetouched characters, being they are more native to the Material Plane and thus excluded from the otherworldly burdens of the pure characteristic.

it is not a question of revealing identity.. a spirit shaman can SENSE spirit... so accordingly to DND spirit shaman description they should be able to sense any spirits
list of spirits are

Spirits
Elemental
Fey

this is a DND rule not something I just invented

D&D also allows paladin to detect evil, but yet they can't on bg even though it's technically possible to implement. For the same reasons do not expect a mechanical way for spirit shaman or any other class to be given a way to detect fey heritage or whatever else.

By a strict reading of the rules, spirit shamans cannot detect or affect people with fey heritage because those people are not classed as fey, they are classed as humanoids. Humanoids do not fall under the detect spirits definition with the exception of spirit folk.

On the other hand, the spirit shaman capstone ability changes your type from humanoid to fey (in pnp only, not on NWN2/BG). In that case, detect spirits would work.

I tried to google that capstone ability and could not find anything about it... yet it seemed interesting and I would have love to know more about it since I`m trying to master every aspect of my SS

thank you

It's not relevant for BG. See here. I just used it as an example of something that would apply for Detect Spirits if it did. Meanwhile, humanoids with just fey heritage do not count as a spirit for the purpose of SS abilities as they are NOT classed as fey.

Though as MissClick said, it is fine to RP that it does if you get consent from the other person. A lot of us SS use Detect Spirits to see things about other characters, but only with their consent.
