Ok, so I've decided to poke around in the TKL Performer to see if it's possible to get some more range and flexibility. My first goal is to try extending the pitch range when using the WRITE function (not the GUI). I reached out to Brock Fanning, the module creator, and he confirms that this should be doable.
The first thing I noticed is that there are already sound files covering the range from D3 to B3. However there's something in the scripts blocking those notes from actually being used. I looked at the INCLUDES file, and found this block of code:
switch (iPitch)
{
case 1: return sInstrument + "C1";
case 2: return sInstrument + "Db1";
case 3: return sInstrument + "D1";
case 4: return sInstrument + "Eb1";
case 5: return sInstrument + "E1";
case 6: return sInstrument + "F1";
case 7: return sInstrument + "Gb1";
case 8: return sInstrument + "G1";
case 9: return sInstrument + "Ab1";
case 10:return sInstrument + "A1";
case 11:return sInstrument + "Bb1";
case 12:return sInstrument + "B1";
case 13:return sInstrument + "C2";
case 14:return sInstrument + "Db2";
case 15:return sInstrument + "D2";
case 16:return sInstrument + "Eb2";
case 17:return sInstrument + "E2";
case 18:return sInstrument + "F2";
case 19:return sInstrument + "Gb2";
case 20:return sInstrument + "G2";
case 21:return sInstrument + "Ab2";
case 22:return sInstrument + "A2";
case 23:return sInstrument + "Bb2";
case 24:return sInstrument + "B2";
case 25:return sInstrument + "C3";
case 26:return sInstrument + "Db3";
case 27:return sInstrument + "D3";
case 28:return sInstrument + "Eb3";
case 29:return sInstrument + "E3";
case 30:return sInstrument + "F3";
case 31:return sInstrument + "Gb3";
case 32:return sInstrument + "G3";
case 33:return sInstrument + "Ab3";
case 34:return sInstrument + "A3";
case 35:return sInstrument + "Bb3";
case 36:return sInstrument + "B3";
}
So this appears to be where the note names are defined. It's not defining the SOUND files (still looking but at least the code itself recognizes the names. The names of the WAV files appear not to be mentioned in the INCLUDES (or if they are, not by the file names in the Sounds folder) so I'm still hunting for those.
Now, IN THEORY, all I should need to do is:
1) Create the necessary sound files (already working on that for Lute).
2) Add the pitch names to that block of code I posted.
3) Find whatever line on which script blocks the use of written notes above C3 and modify it for the new extended range.
4) Find whatever line on which script associates a sound file to a pitch, and modify it for the new extended range.
Does this sound about right?
