Magnus made a point of greeting each traveler with a nod and a kind smile to bely any concerns of mischief or thievery. As a Hin, a term he preferred, be had become accustomed to adventurers passing through Baldur’s Gate to perceive all Halflings as thieves and sneaks. Secretly, Magnus would laugh at himself when such events would unfold, as he knew how often he would stumble over his own shadow, and so the thought of being able to hide in one was difficult for him to grasp.
“Green Dragon?” asked Samson, from across the small camp, his stoic gaze held steady to Magnus even as the camp began to fill with others. “Aye!” Magnus responded, and immediately began to make an account of his supplies. He knew once Samson set foot in the wild it could be several days before resupply was possible. Samson took to nature like a fish to water.
Anyone who took notice would see the two adventurers board a horse-drawn coach heading north.
(Excerpt from Magnus’ journal)
- Day one – Forest of the Wryms. Dispatched an Earth Golem, Green Dragon, and handful of large snakes. Haul: ~3 bags of gold and a second tiered armor.
Day Two – Gray Mountains. Dispatched Fire and Stone Giants, Balor, and a steady stream of Fire Elementals. Haul: ~4 bags of gold and a fourth tiered quarterstaff.
Day Three – Serpent Hills. Dispatched Yuan-ti fanatics, two Topaz Wryms, Black Dragon, and an abundance of snakes. Haul: ~2 or 3 bags of gold and little else.
Samson and Magnus arrived in Soubar on the fourth day. “Shall we meet again?” asked Samson. “Aye… same place and time,” Magnus responded before giving his friend a quick smile, and then turning in the direction of Mudd’s Auction and fading from view.
