Poisons

How poisons work here? It is not standart system, but some advanced? What types of poison do exist and are of any use?

You can buy poisons from vendors in Roaringshore and Soubar (and probably somewhere in the UD). They also drop and are chest loot at random. For weapon-applied poisons, once applied, I believe they last for three whacks. The rest (like inhaled) are one and done.

There are poisons with relatively high checks, so they definitely have a use, but they're also gold sinks as you can expect to pay a fair bit.

Without use poison all are 1 and done. With use poison feat it's as bmd says. However, they only stay on blade a short time so you have to apply them right before combat

Do you know how long they actually last once applied?

I got use poison from assassin class so naturally I was thinking neglecting a poison wouldn't be using all features I get.

What the poisons do? Lower just abilities?

IIRC they last 10 rounds once applied.

Poisons do various things. A (non-exhaustive) list:

- lower stat(s) - Every stat has a poison that can lower it and some lower one stat as a primary effect and then lower some other stat as a secondary.
- cause status effect - One of my favorites is poisons that cause blindness because very few enemies are immune to blindness and blind enemies allow sneak attacks.
- DEATH - At least one poison has a primary effect of lowering CON which reduces Fortitude saves and a secondary effect of death.

All in all poisons have potential, but are generally too much a pain in the rear to make regular use of as a gold sink. You burn through them quickly and have to apply them then enter combat quickly to give them a chance to apply. At one point I was trying to work with some folks on a "Poisoner's kit" as an item that would have 'charges' so that you could essentially apply various poison effects from one item many times before having to resupply. Would be far easier than carrying stacks of 10 with a dozen inventory slots used up with the different poisons you want. However, no one could quite figure out how to make it work.
