Mimics in the Minotaur area

Unread post by ajcolt »

They are way overtuned for the CR. 28 AB, 44 damage per hit, and a lot of hp.

Ah, glad someone else noticed. My first time back in there after the update, I got mimic-slapped in quick succession for 44x3 damage before I even realized what was going on.

There is a part of me that wants to keep this horrible thing alive as it is because we should be afraid of mimics, but I think places like Hilltop set you up for getting wrecked because the mimic is already loose in there, relatively weak and teaches you not to be wary at an early level.

You may failed the strength check and not realized it. I like it, it's just way overtuned for a CR 10ish area.

Update: I made a mistake in the Mimic blueprint, causing them to spawn 6 levels higher than they should have. It should be fixed for the next update. Thank you!

That shouldn't have taken them all the way from 17 AB to 28 AB, but I haven't been able to find another bug, so we'll see if that resolves the matter.

At least let that one drop appropriate loot and xp.
After a long, long fight he dropped nothing.

28 AB is overtuned for a CR 23 area even >.>.

You found a secret. Other Mimics in the area should have much lower stats.

Not all secrets are good.
Both I encountered had those stats the first I ran away from, The second got me with a str check. Insta surprise near certain death with no chance to succeed is not fun for most players after the novelty of the first few encounters wears off.

Can you PM me screenshots of where you found the mimics with those stats? That's certainly only supposed to happen in one place.

I encountered mimics in two different areas the first time running through with my rogue. one was before the iron gates, before entering the maze and the second was in the first chest room with only a single chest.
I'll have to take another look, but even after seeing the post about them being OP I was surprised they took two full rounds of stealth sneak attacks from a 25 pure rogue and quite die. and yes they hit for 44 damage.

I'll try and get screenshots of the areas.

**just want to add, yes, it would be hard for the levels meant for this area, but also we should get these in other high level areas and even more beefed up. They're awesome.
Some people say if you can't do something right, don't do it at all...I say maybe you just need more practice...?

Yes, I found a bug that was making them harder than they're supposed to be. They should be challenging for the area, but this is much worse than intended. I think it should have AB 18 or so. It'll be fixed or mostly fixed in the next update. I could only account for 4 or 5 of the 10 excess AB, so I'm not entirely sure it's fixed.

Do Mimics respawn or are they once a reset ?
As I imagine a mimics placement is part of that 'new' chest spawning system ?

In areas using the new chest randomizer, mimics should respawn after a long period of time.

The balance should now be correct. Please share a screenshot with the combat log and map if it isn't.

They seem still pretty dangerous, as they brought my lv20 monk (AC50) down to half his HPs. :o
(Mimic had an AB of 19)

Hmm, pretty close. It was supposed to be an AB of about 18. They were balanced to be difficult for a party. (Not all areas will have mimics, so don't despair, solo players.)
