Bryce Sawyer - A journal, the musical

Baldur's Gate

A man in light armor with bordeaux leather can be heard walking around Baldur's Gate.

"Heard you say?"

Yes, heard. For when he's not talking, he's singing. Of what he sees, of where he is, of what he does.
Always a happy tune, a song and a laugh, a tune and a drink.

This man lives for the city!

One such day, you can hear him singing, with a joyful tune:

Baldur’s gate, a house from home,
It’s where I’ll go when feeling alone.
With to the west, the beautiful sea,
And all around anonymity.

Though big as it is, you can still reach fame,
And I’m sure that one day, I will make name.
For a bard without name, ‘s like a bard without song,
It just might exist, but it doesn’t belong.

So here I stand in a city so grand,
I sing my tunes with lute in hand.
And if I never reach my fame,
Then still I’m not the one to blame.
I’ll hit the road and carry on,
And in the next city I’ll sing my song.

The Elfsong

Then one day, after a longer quest,
He went to the Elfsong, to get him some rest.
And after perhaps, a wine or five,
His song became just a bit more alive.

And so he sang, a bit slurring the song,
The following tune, please do sing along:

The Elfsong maid is fine,
She gets me all my wine.
‘nd when I fall from the fence,
She puts me back on the bench.
For hunger she’s got few,
Of her finest stew.
A large bowl for me tummy,
It’s really, really yummy.
And then I top up me tum,
With a nice little Rollrum!

The Baldur's Gate Graveyard

And now this time,
After a walk nearby.
He spoke with rhyme,
And time would fly.

But not before long,
And with little sense.
He sang a grave song,
With steady cadance.

The Graveyard is haunted,
Or so they say.
The dead there are walking,
So please stay away.

If you value your life,
Then don’t venture near.
For you will soon be chased,
By undeath roaming here.

The Chointar Cabin

A pleasant pastime,
Going off to fish.
Near the Chointar River,
He just couldn't miss.

But then he was taken,
By more wanderlust.
And see in that cabin,
He absolutely must.

And so came to be,
The very next song.
The tale is worth telling,
A song can't go wrong.

Once ruled by bandits,
Now all overgrown.
The human life gone,
But life still is shown.

From plant eaten kobolds,
To Dryads foul and rotten.
The undead roam here too,
Their life long forgotten

Then onward, to ruins.
With goblinkind and filth.
Always watch your back,
Or find yourself killed.

But where ruins are,
So treasure is too.
If you can fight the goblins,
You know what to do.

So onward you go,
To adventure and gold.
To tall tales of goblins,
To tell all the world.

The Hilltop Ruins

It sits on a hill,
For all to behold.
But don't venture forth,
Unless you are bold.

This bard thought he was,
So he scouted it out.
The kobolds soon scattered,
As the battle was loud.

And so here it is,
The song of that trip.
He'd sing it on exit,
Weapon back on his hip.

Ruins deserted, 400 years old,
By Calashite built, both young and so bold.
Lived here long ago, their house it once was,
With tapestries, beautiful of gold and brass.

Now it’s all defiled and reeking quite hard,
Barely worth the tale of a bard.
Yet here I stand, and here I sing,
To give this place a new beginning.

So onward we march with weapons held high,
To cleanse them with fire and make them all fry.
So hold high your weapon and follow my lead,
Until of the kobolds, this place has been freed.

The Hilltop Ruins, floor 2

Venturing back in,
Still looking for gold.
A stair further down,
Unsure what it'd hold.

The story unfolds,
A tale he soon wrote.
But not before selling,
What he found on the road.

And then further down,
The Bladelings come in.
With spikes on their bodies,
A real ugly thing.

So hold high that weapon,
And smack them all down.
Show that kings of fighting,
Do not need a crown.

Though do still watch out,
For things might go bad.
A wyrmling 's down there,
With gold to be had.

And then there's a man,
Though he's not a prey.
He thought it'd be peaceful,
To research this way.

So venturing further,
There's much to be found.
But also be weary,
For you're battle bound.

Cloakwood

From the Friendly Arm Inn,
He ventures to the forest.
Humming all along,
He does what he does best.

Ofcourse a song is sung,
As he spends his time in there.
When finally getting back,
It's certainly something he'd share...

The cloakwood forest
Is filled with Tasloi,
They’ll try to bring death,
They don’t bring you joy.

They kill from above,
Or at least they will try.
But by the hands of myself,
They will more likely die.

Though always be wary,
You’d not be the first.
For the Witch Doctors here,
Are not yet the worst.

Cloakwood Mine, level 1

But before going back,
He'd first venture on.
Into a mine,
He would stay gone long.

Though once coming back,
Another story to sing.
If he'd survive of course,
For there's risk of a spear sting.

You enter the mine,
With floorboards and traps.
With ugly batiri,
More hideous than rats.

With spiders and spearman,
And lingering death.
Adventurers go forth,
So the batiri can get fed.

So venture forth,
With torch lighting the way.
But heed my warning,
Or forever you’ll stay.

Cloakwood Mine, level 2

And on to floor 2,
With batiri more vile.
And big walking mushrooms,
Of worms filled with bile.

Yes too on this floor,
A story to sing.
Of more spears and spiders,
And a spearman's sting.

(( Spoiler for ... reasons ))
Hidden: show

And so here I stand,
A quest on my mind.
The lost ore of dwarves,
Are sure here to find.

So I gather my guts,
And will soon spill theirs.
For the ore of this place,
Is for dwarven heirs.

An heirloom it is,
Or quite soon might be.
For dwarves work the ore,
And not ba-ti-ri...

Cloakwood Mine, level 3

And yet one more notch,
On the lift in the shaft.
For one to go on,
You must be quite daft.

It's that or it's brave,
Depending on if.
You die on the mines,
Or come out and live.

But yet here is Bryce,
Still singing his song.
He still ventured back,
After being long gone.

Ah yes one more floor,
Adventure goes on!
Though do watch your step,
Lest you end up gone.

Undead to the left,
Lizards to the right.
Both really eager,
To put up a fight.

But fighting they shall,
Though not to good end.
For if I am hurt,
At least I will mend.

For them not a chance,
They won't live to see.
That their end is nigh,
And too caused by me....
