Torch - How come it isn't emitting light?

Unread post by ihmajin »

Hello, BGTSCC community. I'm a new Neverwinter Nights 2 player and I'm new member to this server. I purchased a Torch from the Basic Supplies Imp within The Nexus then I equipped it and received the feat Weapon and Torch. What I didn't receive is a source of illumination. The torch does not emit any flame particle effects nor does it emit any light. I also purchased a lantern from a trader within the city and the lantern did not emit light either. How do I make a torch or lantern light up my surroundings? For comparison sake, in Neverwinter Nights, one only need equip a torch to illuminate their immediate area. Does lighting a torch have anything to do with the Illumination feat?

There is a related bug.

Try dropping the torch or lantern, then immediately pick it up again and equip it. Does your Torch emit light now?

Also, there is some graphics options that might be turned off for your game setup. Go to Options and check the appropriate boxes you’ll find there for Lights.

Thanks for your help, Steve. No, unfortunately the torch still does not emit any light.

In the Graphics tab everything is is set to High and all of the boxes are checked under the Quality Options. Is this something that I need to change in the nwn2.ini?

Unfortunately, the Search database for the Forums is completely borked, and Zanniej is busy sending me messages—and a fix!!!—via carrier pigeon, so I can't do what I'd normally do, which is find you a Thread that addresses this issue from some years ago.

But if memory serves, the issue might actually be that you purchased a light source, and not found one from the Loot Table (in dropped loot or a chest). I slightly remember Chambordini, an ex-staff member, trying to fix the torches-don't-light problem, but...the fix never got in. And his recommendation was to use a Torch from a loot drop, NOT from the Merchants.

I have Torch/Lantern-not-lighting issues all the time. I usually fix it by dropping the torch on the ground, picking it up, equipping it, and it works...until the next time I log on, then it won't work unless I repeat the above. It has been an issue I've "dealt with" for years now. A bummer, but not a game experience killer.

Your specific issue seems...odd. I do not think adjusting the .ini will do anything. You can also do 2 things in order to test if this is a BGTSCC related issue, or a Your Installation of NWN2 issue. First, try playing the actual stand-alone game, and use a torch. Does it work? If so, you know your graphics are setup properly. Second, you could try and log on to another NWN2 server out there, find a simple merchant and buy a torch, and equip it. If you have success then, using another PW, then you know for sure it is a BGTSCC problem and then you can take it up with the Devs/QC crew, and maybe one of those talented coders can fix the issue on the back end.

Cheers.

Thank you for the sound advice, Steve. I appreciate your feedback. I'll explore the issue on my end a bit more before I seek any external resolution. See you in game!
