can you elaborate what you mean by failures?

i imagine it can either be you trying to use them using use magic device (dc 30) and rolling lower than that (assuming it is cleric scrolls not the drop-only ones anyone can use), or you using them before the person dies? (when they are "dying" it does nothing they need to be dead dead to work).

if it is not one of the above some more information on what happened may be helpful for us to help.

Another thing can be that you tried to raise a body of player who logged off. In this case, nothing happens and it's a waste of scroll.

My guess is that you're used to the old Raise Dead scrolls that anyone can use, but now you got your hands on the "Scroll of Raise Dead" which is what someone scribes as a cleric and resells to people who think it's the real deal. That one requires a hefty use magic device check, which can fail.

another issue occurs, if you use the scroll too fast and the dead char. hasn't arrived at the fugue yet. (loading an area takes some time on older computers -sometimes a minute or more)

my thanks for the responses, but i dont believe any of those apply to my experience

a pc fell in my battle, my pc had to finish the fight alone, then used raise dead scroll. it wouldnt let me use it on the corpse as it lay, so i picked it up, and used the scroll upon it while in my inventory, and i kept getting a blue message stating something about the magic reaches out and finds nothing to connect to and fizzles or somesuch. it wasnt too soon to attempt, as my character had to finish a fight first, which took a couple minutes. he was waiting patiently in fugue, but decided to respawn after my character got 5 failures on raise scroll attempts

Speculation and conjecture on my part, but the magic reaches out and finds nothing to connect to is probably a reference to the corpse being in your inventory, as I don't know of any item in-game we can use while it remains in our inventory... Hmm, shield broaches do. Sorry, Mate. No clue.

Cheers!

indeed using raise dead while you are carrying someone does not seem to work, you have to use it while they are on the floor.

by "i could not use it on them" i imagine you may have had some issue targeting them after you clicked on the scroll to use it (changing the mouse icon to the spell icon), seems strange but picking the corpse up, and depositing it somewhere else in the open to target it should fix that next time

okay. thanks. i picked up the corpse because it wouldnt let me use it on the corpse as it lay on the ground, but maybe the server was being buggy at the time

perhaps we can get the scripting changed to have the scrolls recognize a corpse when in inventory, in case this happens again, to myself or others

Did the companion use the disguise tool at any point? I get that message when trying to rez a PC that uses a fake name a lot.

Confirmed, raising someone from inventory does not work.
