For a role-play Server, regardless of being medium, low or high, any actions IG using the AFK tag as some sort of license to grind, loot or gain whatever from the IG,IC world, should not be permitted.

AFK Grinding IS NOT allowed, as per General Server Rules.

And, alignments are an OOC aspect that guides RP, just as we don’t RP in game emotes such as “Surely, I will join your adventuring group, as I wield a 38 attack bonus and that should allow me to crit those Orcs on a regular basis....”. You dig?

I realize there exists this unspoken allowance for Gray Orcs or known evil PCs to access BG for the Quests, but even that is bogus and should be specifically ruled out of existence.

Assuming this isn't a specific incident - if so, we shouldn't be calling out individual players and situations - this aligns with my thoughts.

I think the "we allow all play styles" idea has really evolved over the years I've been here, and not necessarily toward betterment. As a roleplay server, I I don't think those choosing to play more casually should interrupt immersion and roleplay. Tossing an AFK flag to use stores not otherwise available to you is an understandable mechanical convenience, but selectively using it to avoid IC consequence and other players seems counter to what I've always thought we were as a server.

In the end, id agree that arguing about it isn't worth your time, but I sure wish we'd do better as a community of players to reward roleplay, and give it the same level of access/leeway/support as we do the ooc mechanical play style that only RPs when convenient.

Go punch a tree if you need the urge to pvp. Take the moment to educate via tells than reprimand through actions.

The rules prevent players from outright attacking summoners(... summons, yes), so I don't think this is about feeling the urge to pvp, so much as it is having the freedom to respond in an IC manner. I mean, if it's just a game and some people aren't in it for the immersion, the same could equally be said that other people do come here for immersion, and don't want to spend their time negotiating in tells with every undead/demon/devil summoner they come across. Communication is a great thing and all, but not when it negates ones ability to just play the game.

Personally speaking, and depending on which character I'm on at the time, I usually do things a couple of ways:
1. In character verbal confrontation, and wait for the response(or the pvp).
2. Use the DMFI tool to edit a junk item into a warning note, leave it in the summoners path, and wait for the response.
3. Outright attack the summon, no IC warning(I do this very rarely, once again it depends on which character I'm on, the area we're in, how many beers I've had)
4. Walk the hell away. Because with some players, it's just not worth the hassle.

I was referring to a particular incident, though I don't think it serves any purpose to go into specifics (my example above is similar to but not exactly what happened).

In fact it wasn't the person doing the action that gob-smacked me, it was the fact that all party members pretended they couldn't see it and I was the only one who RP'd being totally freaked out >< Anyway, it's good to get some people's opinion on this topic, and I think I know what I will do now next time it happens.

So if I come across undead that was summoned, it's acceptable to destroy them?

I'm not asking to grief players, I'm asking because an RP-out is really hard for some characters. I'd hope any would-be necromancers would consider this OOC before rolling such a toon.

You can always kill a summon without an RP out. Just be aware that the necromancer can turn around and try and kill you for doing so.

I do this and have had this done to me. I agreed with it plus it leads to some great RP imo.

Companions may never be attacked (i think an exception goes with humanoid monster Companions) without RP and still be given an out.

Also a lawful good summoner cannot summon a demon... just isn't on the list to select from. I think you can do a slaad though.

I'll double check on my neutral good summoner. Undead is one thing, demons, something else entirely. It shouldn't be on the table. But ill double check.

My personal favorite is the people who summon things in the farmlands, my usual response is to simply banish the summons and point out the law.

People ignore a lot of things when it comes to OC/IC things. in my experience trying to get anyone to consider another persons immersion has been a waste of time since they don't want to listen 90% of the time.

People treat this like an MMO a lot more lately.

These kinds of questions have to be sent to DMs. No way anyone can give a ruling on this, it's case by case basis. Rule 0 is the most important rule: treat your fellow players with respect.

The golden rule here is generally to be mindful of other peoples enjoyment AKA "Don't be a jerk". Sending someone an OOC tell before hand and warning them that what their character is doing could be grounds for some characters to attack them, or your own to attack, is usually a friendly way to approach it before charging in. As mentioned above as well, the AFK tag is generally the "I'm OOC" flag and its best to just pretend that person doesn't exist. Grinding with he AFK flag is of course pushing the boundaries of what would be acceptable play and is expressly against the rules. So there are some lines to be drawn there.

That being said, this is a roleplay server, and if a character summons undead, demons, devils, shapeshifts into a demon or devil then you are within your rights to act accordingly as long as rules are followed.

It is good to keep some of these rulings handy:

If you commit an IC crime either within city limits or in front of witnesses, you are considered to have consented to PvP for the players who have witnessed or been a victim of the crime, and no RP out is required.

Are they in an area where it is illegal to summon undead/devils/demons? That counts as consent to PVP. Though best done with witnesses.

This one is also particularly important in these situations:

- Familiars and Animal Companions are considered an extension of the player character and normal PvP rules must be followed when attacking them. Beasts of burden, such as pack horses and elemental haulers, are included in this category. Monstrous Humanoid, Hellhound, or Worg companions on the surface are exceptions to this rule and these companions may be attacked on sight.

Summoned creatures may be attacked on sight, but regular PvP rules must be followed for the aggressor and the owner of the summoned creatures. "Summoned creatures" are defined as any creature that can be summoned or called through a spell or ability, and is not a Familiar, Animal Companion, Dragon Companion, or Telthor Companion.

- While polymorphed into a form that is not your own, you are perceived as what you have become. This is considered consent to PvP until your character shifts into a less threatening form or into their natural form.

I fat finger my hotbar a lot. I accidentally used a wand of fear on a crowd inside of a guild hall, and profusely ooc apologized. Thankfully everyone ignored it. If it was clearly an accident, like bumping someone because it's hard to control your character, just explain. If they are reasonable then you won't have an issue.

Smuggling out of guild places is impossible without a DM since you have to godmod NPCs. It would also make people far more choosy in who they allow into their guildhalls. It would also inevitably lead to more metagaming and godmodding. Nor is it possible to be fair. Why do some player guildhalls get merchant vendors and some not? It's impossible to balance out.

PWs shouldn't favor or disfavor any race, class, faction, etc. If you'd like to take the time and put in the work to balance the quests out into good evil neutral orcs lawful chaos while also making it tempting for the other side to complete the quests with consequences I'm all for that!. Everyone would love you. But....... sitting on quest givers with scripted interactions likely godmodding NPCs or using meta to tail people who are doing quests runs while godmodding every npc is hardly "RP" to begin with.
