Up until the bizarrely unexpected, destructive maelstrom north of the city, many of the city's merchants, bookkeepers, and artisans had become accustomed to seeing the familiar, cheery face of House Darius's chandler and bar manager darting from place to place, stopping to exchange small talk and pleasantries and laughter with them as she milled about tending to the Darius's day to day business as she insisted on doing personally.

Some, if not many, of them would note her abrupt absence in the days following, however. Some of them may even wonder what had occurred to make the little chats they so enjoyed with the personable, auburn-haired young woman stop so suddenly.

Merchants and potential patrons among what is locally referred to as The Wide may have noticed three figures appear from seemingly nowhere in front of the Lyre and Darius Estate, two elves, possibly both male, and one human woman. While the woman seemed fine, the two elves looked a bit worse for wear. The shorter of the two bore the marks of someone who had been hit by some sort of odd projectile, but seemed mostly unbothered. The taller, skinny elf appeared to have been in some sort of more physical scuffle as his nose and one of his eyes appeared to be bloodied. By some miracle, his glasses seemed to avoid whatever blow or blows may have caused his apparent injuries.

The stream of angry profanities from the bloodied, shaking elf were only broken up by the occasional near-growl of the name of Morgan Blackrose as he stormed into the Lyre, followed by the other two. Whatever happened to the trio seemed to really rattle him quite a bit.

Rumors spread that people of the Palace District report gold disappearing without a trace. Some suggest that Palace District people believe their wealth and value to be overestimated; others suggest foul play. Meanwhile, in the Harbor District's more shady parts, a shrine to the Lord Of the Shadows appears a bag of gold richer alongside an erotically shaped chocolate featuring a woman's bust. Whether this is a challenge, message, or something entirely different remains a mystery.

Rumors circulate once again that gold has disappeared traceless in the Palace District, though this time, most talks seem to surround the Helm And Cloak. Some suggest that the customers have problems doing simple counting; others suggest foul play. Meanwhile, a shrine to the Lord of Shadows has found itself a bag of gold richer, once again.

Flyers are spread around the Gate, with a simple rhyme on it.

Have you always wanted a song for yourself?
Leave your request near the song of the Elf.
The waitress on the terrace will gladly accept,
And a song will be written by someone adept.

Then come and listen the 21st of Alturiak,
I can guarantee that you will be in luck.
So come one, come all and make a request,
You give the topic and I'll do the rest.

A human man identifying himself Corporal Peacock and a cycloptic moon elf maiden who went by Elf-T moved out to the cave near the arena in response to some apparent intel about singing bandits, or singing hostages. The details were fuzzy, and commoners scratched their heads as the bumbling elf got Corporal Peacock lost several times in the Farmlands because she held the map sideways and kept complaining about the 'stupid spinny thing' on the compass.

Upon finally arriving at the cave, they observed the mouth of the cave and lingered in the rain after Corporal Peacock "Sent" someone for permission to strike. Then they waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. They occasionally grumbled about the rain and noted no movement around the outside of the cave, but mostly they bickered, or lay prone with their crossbows in disgruntled silence while the rainfall increased.

Eventually, Elf-T made the bold and decisive call to "do some recon in force" inside the cave. Within moments of entering, they pulled out a limp body that bore no signs of being one of the bandits. Elf-T checked her notes carefully while Corporal Peacock dumped smelling salts on the casualty's face, and then kicked him in the ribs to wake him up. Corporal Peacock's attempts to render aid were unsuccessful. Then Elf-T felt for a pulse and pronounced the casualty dead*, that there was nothing they could do besides complete the mission inside the cave.

Just then, a giant, gross centipede the size of a horse and an umberhulk came out of the cave and ambushed the pair! Elf-T became confused from the umberhulk's magicks and friendly fired upon Corporal Peacock before running off to eviscerate an uninvolved stag nearby. Upon coming back to her senses, she subdued the centipede and umberhulk while Corproal Peacock was down. Immediately thereafter, She rendered aid and tended his wounds, muttering something about the heat of battle and chalking up the poor stag's untimely demise as collateral damage. After determining that Corporal Peacock was able to stand on his own, she ordered him to take point into the cave even though he was wrapped in bandages like a mummy.

After spending a long time inside the cave, the odd pair escorted out a man whom they believed to be a hostage despite his claims that he was not held captive and could not sing a note. Efl-T smelled like pee and Corporal Peacock was still wrapped in bandages.

Either the Elf-T and Corporal Peacock duo are absolutely deranged, or it was some bizarre form of performance art.

The well known Lewd Lyre in Baldur's Gate has closed its doors following a reported attack from within. Witnesses described cataclysmic forces and explosions erupting from the bar, and some swear that a huge demonic figure was seen breaking through the exterior wall and taking flight into the night sky.

Regardless of the cause, the establishment is closed for the immediate future until the extensive damages can be repaired.

Shortly after the events at the Lewd Lyre, a brunette ranger, bloodied and crying, was seen being carried in the arms of the Archdruid through the Palace District and into the gardens at the Halls of Light. She was then placed in the pool of Eldath. After some time, the Archdruid was seen carrying her into a tree.

The Halls of Inner Light buzzed with activity as many people gathered in the Heartfire Tavern downstairs. A Hanalite faithful delivered a sermon about self-love, and a game of truth or dare followed.

The joyous revelry was interrupted by sudden news that someone was abducted by balors, but after a brief rescue attempt, a few people returned to the Halls.

Back in the Heartfire, they shared a somber meal of Calishite fare, speculated on the evening's strange chain of events, and performed an interview.

In the "Blushing Mermaid" the sailors and drunkards recently enjoy the company of that mysterious woman again.
Once again she just stands there in some dark corner, the hood drawn deeply into the thereby hidden face, listening to the gossip of the tavern folk.

She arrives at late evening, and she leaves soon past midnight.
Still noone has heard her speaking and so it is still unknown, what (or even if) she is waiting for ...
Silence is not just merely the absence of noises.

Silence is the eyes at the docks, the missing purse, the stolen secret, the sudden dagger at the throat, the unheard screams in the night ...
... but most of all, silence is a prayer.

A prayer to the shadows.
