4e's Dragon #371 ("Origin Stories: Incorporating Races", pages 40-42) discussed the idea of Warforged in Faerûn, mentioning the following five possibilities:
1. a one-off wizard experiment
2. a product of a (non-Thayan) Red Wizard Enclave
3. coming from Eberron by way of Sigil
4. travelling from the Returned Abeir nation of Gontal (possibly from a primordial's ancient shattered metallic fortress) or
5. awakening after a century of slumber near Lantan
That last one is my favorite:
Prior to Lantan sinking during Faerûn's Spellplague, it was a technologically advanced island (much like the legendary Atlantis) that developed highly advanced clockwork mechanisms and worshipped Gond. Indeed, techsmiths of Gond could construct a mechanical Gondsman as a loyal mechanical warrior, assistant, bodyguard, and friend (confusingly, priests of Gond were sometimes called Gondsmen as well).
Also note: the new Chult map in Tomb of Annihilation shows nearby Lantan as apparently resurfaced, so it might be an excellent time for a Gondsman (or similar construct) to appear.

I came across this exciting post online paraphrasing Dragon #371, a publication about Origin Stories: Incorporating Races. I think this is a great basis for starting to think about how to add the race in-game.

So much nope.. with a side of more nope sauce >.<
This would no doubt only add to the immersion breaking that happens on this server with some of the ridiculousness that already occurs.

Sounds like a cool idea for NPCs that the DMs can only use. Otherwise not a huge fan of it and would rather not overall. But, I like that people are thinking.
// this post is for Dae, since he wanted something positive posted. But, Im not a fan of the idea for a lot of reasons. So, I gave him a compliment sandwich.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
Let me get this clear.
This is some sentient fantasy robot, created in a different world, with some loosely quasi reasons why a small handful of them might exist on Toril. And zero justification why there would be groups of them concentrated in Baldur's Gate.
Maybe not zero justifcation. The big argument in favor of having them being that the Tieflings are everywhere, why cant the robot-peope be there too.
There are no avatars for this race. No body/head skins, no animations no armour/weapon for the uniquely sized build.
They would all have to be created. I recognize that some of the custome head models to be created for the various races have been really good. But now you are asking for antire robot race to be created?!
The custom content team are what, supposed todrop what they are doing and just create an race of robot-people from scratch?
So, you are asking for an extremely exotic race that basically doesnt exist in this world nor does it exist mechanically in the actual video game.
Do you really think this is a realistic request?
Bleep bloop boop beep I act like a robot, but I am people too, Please love me!

Re: New Race: The Warforged
apologies, but no, imo they dont fit the setting. if we add warforged, the next requests will be for goliaths and tabaxi. while fun and interesting player races, 3.0 faerun is not the place for them

Of course there are in-game models, I don't know what you're talking about?
Also, for the last time. WARFORGED ARE NOT ROBOTS! They are not ROBOTIC, they are wood/metal all solid sentient constructs. They have no gears or parts.

Also, please read,

Also, please read,
https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/WarforgedWarforged were physically impressive humanoids made up of magically enchanted materials. The "skin" of a warforged was made of hardened materials such as metal or stone. Beneath this lay the skeleton, made up of similar materials, and the "musculature" of the warforged, made up of leather, wooden fibers, or any leather-like material. Throughout the warforged's body were vessels resembling the circulatory system of organic creatures, complete with a blood-like fluid. The arms of a warforged ended in hands with two fingers and a thumb while the feet of the constructs were likewise two-toed.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
No.
They don't fit the setting. Reaching for edge cases where they might be viable doesn't make them actually viable.
Additionally the fact you need to keep repeating ad nauseam that they aren't robots means you'll pretty much be guaranteed that most of them will be played as robots.
I'd rather something making more sense was added and occupy dev time than a race that has to be shoehorned in from another setting and that you have to constantly explain to the community are not robots because 99% of people are going to play them as robots. It's fine to think Warforged are awesome but liking something doesn't mean it's a good fit for the server.

Let's get a faction system and yuan-ti finally in, since we've got a whole community of yuan-ti in the hills.Winterborne wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 11:15 am I'd rather something making more sense was added and occupy dev time

Re: New Race: The Warforged
Magical golems are part of Faerun, de facto. It's not up for debate, they exist and are part of it. I think saying sentient golems don't fit the setting is just a misunderstanding of the actual setting.
Ninja are in the server, renamed as Phantom. A similar process could be done to adapt Warforged if the specific name of Warforged isn't wanted. They still have precedence for existing, however.
Also, it won't occupy dev time at all. I'm willing to work on this in my own free time.

Re: New Race: The Warforged
There is rp enforced about all kinds of things, drow, warlocks, dwarfs, elves, just make it a rule that warforged are not to be rp as robots. As far as their minds, they are people, pretty darn interesting people too. Warforged that try to not be people ought to be shunned, or treated as property. Just put it in the description and enforce it with rp. It’s much more interesting than gondsman.
Edit: they are completely different from gondsman because they are not robots. Their bodies are essentially alive, and they are not a gimmick, they are fully intelligent, fluent people with fully developed personalities.
