Arrival


The chilled night air is a bitter welcome to Uzzrella as she slips off the old cog arriving from Waterdeep and onto the dark docks of Baldur’s Gate. Over the side and quietly down the netting the recent stowaway slips into the light fog rising from the warm water. The docks assault her senses with familiar notes, the stink of dead fish and lost hope; a soft murmur like a soggy heartbeat; grays and shadows in the moon bleached, toothy jowls of wooden hovels and crowded buildings. Cold, tired and hungry with little but rags on her back, Uzzrella settles into a corner between two dusty wooden walls. The land still sways beneath her in rhythm to the ocean waves- she’s terribly hungry, but sick still from the sea. Sleep soon follows.

The sharp end of a broom and harsh words announce her trespass and sets Uzzrella moving within the strange city. Empty pockets and sharp pangs of hunger conspire to justify a certain moral ambiguity as she helps herself to fruits and breads from unwatchful merchants. She’d find a way to pay it back later, for now she needs to eat. Fancy clothes on a line in the temple district, surely the wall would be higher if they didn’t mean to share.. boots from a cobbler’s shop left out to cure, a well sharpened knife left lazily hanging from a belt. Little things that won’t be missed…
