Area Fixes and Enhancements

Unread post by Planehopper »

All,

I recently joined the build team and I am curious to hear from everyone regarding our current areas - things that you feel need fixed (lighting a little off, floating placeables, walkmesh borked, conversations not working, quests not finishing, spawns not spawning, etc) as well as things that you think could enhance them (small RP settings, lore nodes, areas that need refreshed, etc).

If you DO comment on something that needs fixed, please be as specific as possible, with screenshots if able. Also, please share your favorite area and why - give a little love while you offer up your input, and let us know what you want more of.

I will also ask that you be respectful in any possible critiques or complaints you may have, as this server is built and run on the efforts of volunteers.

***No promises on the speed or priority placed on suggestions here. We will do our best!***

I will keep a running list in this post.

Thanks!

There are a couple things I notice here and there, but the very first that comes to mind (and it is a minor one, I know) is that at the Eastern Farmlands Fire, there is a bench that is backwards. It is the western most one, I believe. The one closest to the tax collector.

When a person sits on it, they face the wrong way, and have to spin.

The quest for picking up Old Dodger the rat in the Eastern Farm lands isn't working. I've tried running up to the rat, over the rat, talking to the rat; nothing is working and I can't complete the quest.

In fact, you don't need to try to interact with rat. You need to run over those holes and then message pops out automatically. IIRC, you need to to that 3 times before your PC actually catches it.

There's maybe a few things in some of the resurrected zones that might need a minor touch up:

Image

Sharpteeth South: The area on the one side of the bridge is a bit of a mess: tree stumps, roots sticking out of the ground, debris, and a beat up workbench. I vaguely remember this used to be a campfire, before it got mangled by a plot 5+ years ago. It's kind of ugly in comparison to the rest of the zone. In the top right corner there's some floating boulders, but they're hard to notice unless you're OCD about exploring maps(like me). The loot containers name is wonky, again probably not a big deal.

Image

East along the River: The Triel fiasco was a really long time ago, but the town hairstylists and barber shop quartet are still shambling about all undead like, looking for another gig. I feel like undead being on this map(as well as the scorched pile of bones to the east) are a bit jarring now, and don't really make any sense. Perhaps the orcs on the other side of the river can remain, if only as a deterrent to any new players eyeballing the sharpteeth transition, but otherwise I think this map is much nicer as purely a wilderness/fishing map, and needs more wandering animals, if anything. Also, the campfire isn't interactable, and the whole camp is just kind of blah.
Fun(useless?) fact: you can completely submerge yourself in the pool of water just east of the camp.

Otherwise, I think the walkmesh on the first bridge on the re-implemented 'Amn Cloudpeaks descent' is a little goofy, but not broken. I'll see if I can find anything else.

This one will be fixed next update. Thanks for the reminder!

I believe the undead are intended to be representative of the Fields of the Dead being adjacent to its location, moreso than Triel. Triel is quite a jaunt from that map, and well on the other side of Elturel.

But I do think the spawns could be refreshed there. Thanks for the screenshots and detailed info!

None of you mentioned your favorite areas, though!

My favorite area I haven't been back to since the split! lol. But it's the area between the Northern Farmlands and Ulgoth's Beard. I've had lots of good RP there, and it's a nice RP location. I was sad when I came back to the server and it was gone.

My favourite area is the DM area harbour town. It is so nice. I need to find a use for it.

Yeah, Triel is way off in Timbuktu, but that NE transition used to connect directly to Triel, and the undead were added to Chointhar after the place was overrun by really nasty undead mobs. The geography used to look roughly like this:

Field of the dead - Thundars - N. Tradeway - Triel* - Corm Orp (I think)
Farmlands North - Farmlands East - Chointar Large*

Whereas now it's:

FoD - Thundars - N. Tradeway* - Reaching / Corm Orp
Farms North - Farms East - Chointhar small - Chointhar large*

I think, if anything, the wolves from N. Tradeway might be more realistic as spillover(although personally I would vote for no monsters)

As for favorite maps, by far the Misty Forest. Having Cloakwood mines 4th level back made me really appreciate that zone, which is another place that could use a little love(if only to make it more awesome), some of the more secreted away parts of it are weird to get to, and maybe a little more walkmesh in the swampy looking cavern part might make a good place for a mini-boss.

^ Turns out it's all water there, but those are dragon bones, I couldn't make the image any brighter unfortunately. And the queen umberhulk name is goofed, as you can see.

And then... I noticed the ogre floating face down in the water, which I've never noticed before <.<

Things I've noticed...

Sides of the Wyrm's Crossing bridge (leaving the farmlands), your characters feet disappear beneath the surface.

As for my favourite area - the tavern in Ulgoth's Beard. 8-)
