Cleric is suddenly completely Broken

I don't even know how to begin describing this.

I have a level 26 cleric with 29 CL, not that I think this should matter. Today, quite out of the blue, her melee damage became limited to like 8-12 or something similar, when it used to average about 20 or a little more. She has an epic flail with +1d6 piercing damage which is +5 after GMW, 16 strength and power attack, so right there we can see such a low damage would be impossible against monsters without DR. When she scores a critical hit, she still delivers the usual 50-60 damage though, so only normal hits seem to be bugged.

Furthermore, and who knows whether this is related, Align Weapon has completely stopped working except on critical hits.

I've been doing a little testing and I have discovered that casting certain round/level buffs makes the damage go back to normal, whether they are damage buffs or not, but only whilst those buffs are active. After they expire, it's back to 9 damage per hit. Nothing has fixed Align Weapon though.

After further testing, I think I have the answer or, at least, the beginning of it: I've recast all buffs I had whilst glitched except for Align Weapon and my damage is now normal.

I've also noticed that the magic damage from Align Weapon is now described as "burst" on the character sheet, which makes me think this is the result of an intentional nerf on that spell, except that, instead of being nerfed, it's now totally broken, as it nullifies bonus damage from other sources on non-criticals.

That has nothing to do with this, as there was no weapon swapping whatsoever. The bug described in this thread was also completely gone after the reset. Or rather, the glitchy behaviour of the "new version" of Align Weapon was gone after the reset. Below I've posted a screenshot that shows all I've described:

- Align Weapon applying only burst damage to the character, as per character sheet;
- Align Weapon magic damage not applying at all on normal hits;
- character dealing only what appears to be weapon base damage plus one other source of bonus damage, excluding all others;

Sadly, I forgot to screenshot a critical hit.

If the spell starts misfiring again, I'll make another post here.

What are the steps to reproduce? Just cast Align Weapon? Would it effect all classes or just Cleric? Does it happen no matter which Alignment you pick? Does it happen with all weapons?

I think the reset fixed it, I've seen RIG items roll with burst too. Some garbage data probably got passed and the wrong item property ended up on the weapon.

I created ticket 58 in our bug tracker for this.

Since my character is epic and the reset came soon after this happened, I only got to rest once, hence the limited testing I did. The steps I followed the first time were these:

- equip heavy shield and the epic flail mentioned on character sheet screenshot above;
- start buffing sequence in this order: conviction, magic vestment x2, weapon of impact, death ward, abyssal might, GMW, extended bless, ext. shield of faith, ext. align weapon, ext. bear's endurance, ext. mass aid, ext blindsight, ext freedom of movement;
- strike a goblin and immediately damage is bugged;
- cast divine favour as a test and suddenly damage is back to normal, albeit without the +1 magic damage from align weapon (since it's being applied as burst on crits only);
- cast prayer, divine power, battletide, stonebody and damage goes back to normal again, even without divine favour;
- as soon as neither divine favour nor the other round/level buffs are active, damage gets glitched again;


After I rested, I went through that buffing sequence again, except I skipped Align Weapon, and I never got any glitches, so this seems to have isolated the bug to that one spell. Then the server reset and the spell has been back to normal since.

There are problems with burst item properties, they're half-baked at the engine level. It's unlikely this bug will be deterministic as only a very rare set of circumstances could lead to a burst property existing at all, since they aren't in our iprp 2das (also not in the vanilla one, weirdly enough).

We took a look to see that there weren't any basic mistakes in the script and it seems solid, so it's likely this was more of a fluke/one-off.

Burst damage is broken, yep. Devs do look into ways to fix it, but it's on low priority as it requires digging pretty deep into engine itself.
