Hi all. I'm brand new here. I've had this game for quite a while but just started replaying it. I played NWN1 for probably 3 years straight on a couple different servers.
Anyway, i ran across a server transition in the farmlands. The load screen looks like it's not even moving or else is moving st a literal snail's crawl. Is this transition broke? And if so, how do I load back into the main area?
Since I started typing this I think it moved the width of a "0" on the screen. And my internet is blazing fast.
Thanks, Defender
Brand New/server transition painfully slow.

Re: Brand New/server transition painfully slow.
They are two connected servers, with their own files. So the first time you transition over, you'll have to download the northern server.
I hope that explains!

Re: Brand New/server transition painfully slow.
If you have not yet tried the NWN2 Client Extension, I would recommend that you, here is a link to where you can download it: https://neverwintervault.org/project/nw ... -extension
And yes, there are indeed two servers. Therefore, if you saw an ongoing download in the loading screen itself, the long transition was simply because you were downloading the contents of the second server, "Baldur's Gate North". If you do wish to wait for the download to finish, you can simply close your game and restart, and join the first server, "Baldur's Gate South", and your character should reappear in front of the previously used transition point. It comes with the risk of not exactly having all the server files, but you should be able to continue the download at some later point. Oh and blazing fast internet is only capable to download at the fastest speed offered by the server itself.
But if there was no on going server content download, it can be possible that you have encountered a bug or glitch that was fairly common for me when I played on this server without the Client Extension. In other words, the area is loaded in two phases and I would often get stuck with the second phase, and no matter how long I waited there was no other choice but to close the game and restart it in order to give the area transition another go.
Moreover, it is also possible that you tried to connect to a different server at an inopportune time, in other words, the second server decided to restart while you were still stuck in the loading screen. Therefore, your end was waiting for communication back from the server, while the server itself forgot all about it due to restarting. Thus, once again, close the game, and check the server list if you can rejoin.
Oh and, when it comes to area transition loading speeds, in NWN2, those have much less to do with internet speed than they do with actual 'computational' power of your computer. For example, with this desktop that can run Cyberpunk 2077 on max settings without a single bit of lag, area transitions are from two to five seconds usually. But if I boot up my ancient Fujitsu Siemens laptop (no such things are even manufactured today) I will have to wait something like two to five minutes for every single area transition. Anyhow, the thing is, you can play NWN2 PWs with those "very affordable" internet connections, because this game does not actually use all that much bandwidth aside from the initial server file download sizes.
