Sermon One

Unread post by mastajabba »

A lone priest made his way towards the busy areas near the Wide and the Eastern Gate. He would pause and deliver his ministry to the citizens of the gate. Delivering fiery sermons on the eternal watchful duty of Helm and citing past city crisis and how the fateful of Helm stood for the people laying down their lives willingly doing Helms work protecting the flock.

“We are a hearty strong people. But not all threats we face are beyond these strong thick stone walls. The real danger lies within… walking among us waiting in secret to do us all harm!”

He’d amp up the sermon as it went. Speaking to the common folk of Baldur’s Gate. The everyday laborers, the mothers the impressionable youth.

“ if any of us where to walk around with a sharpened stick we’d be beaten and dragged to a cold, damn cell in the Harbor District. Fines would take what little money we have. We’d be thrown in with wicked sinful men who steal, murder or worst…” He would let that hang for a second allowing the message to sink in deep.

“Yet on these streets walk among us all sorts of dangerous beings! WARLOCKS! Who have sold their very soul to nefarious devils for the gain of unholy power, Witches whose envious eyes and wicked cruelty will not be satisfy until their hexes ruin and take what little you have. Rogue wizards who unchecked has as history teaches us been the bane and fall of many a great civilizations. Plunging mankind back into dark, lawless violent ages. Leaving us to the mercy of Monsters and Reavers!”

After the Sermon the Priest would bestow Helms blessings upon the crowd. Before making his way towards the Palace District.

Sermon 2

Unread post by mastajabba »

The priest stood by the roadside campfire, a heavy brass and leather bound tome open in hand. Within it contained the Covenant of the Torch. As he delivered his fiery sermon many walked close. Heretics and non believers in the work of Helm. They taunted the man asking if he really needed to deliver the words of salvation the gospel of Helm. Others approached trying to protect the Heretical Witches and Warlocks of Baldur’s Gate by telling the Pious Priest to go to the fortified den of decadent arcane heresy that is the Cult of Candlekeep. Arrogant Rogue Mages whom answer to no one but their vanity.

He stood there delivering the sermon. The words from the Covenant or the Torch. Bringing Light and cleansing fires to where there is darkness. Baldur’s Gate will be saved. As Helm has in the past and will continue in the Future. It’s the will of Helm and it shall be done.

A large gathering of people recognized as members of the Green Enclave assemble at the northern gates of the city of Baldur's Gate. After a short time of conferring with each other, the group moves together into the Palace district, to the duchal court. They remain inside far longer than most of them would prefer to remain inside the walls.

Sermon: 3

Unread post by mastajabba »

By torchlight the Pious Preacher returned to his street Ministry. The Devine covenant of the Torch to the people. As he read many where angered for the light of the Covenant of the Torch reaches into the darkness revealing the wickedness there. Some where hostile, throwing rocks at a Priest as he preached. Another invited the most devout and pious of preachers to fight.

But he kept reading from his holy time. A knight of the fallen god Jergal sat there holding a banner as if the sigil of a fallen god would being salvation to the people. As if empty promises of peace in death would protect the souls of the people of Baldur’s Gate.

Another young knight sat there telling the pious priest that sermons belonged in gilded temples at scheduled times. But Helm is ever watching and never sleeping. His clergy must also be ever vigilant and never resting. For competency kills. Witches, Warlocks and Rogue Magi the threat within was called out and citizens reminded of their duty to their fellow citizens to report these witches, warlocks and rogue magi. For safety and prosperity.

After his sermon he burned two heretical tomes he found out while cleansing some gnolls that dabbled into the wicked ways of the Occult. Delivering swift steel and a fiery torch to the bodies. Cleaning the site. Once the Tomes where burned he made his way back to the Gate to render prayers and Blessings on the city watchmen. “HELM IS ALWAYS WATCHING”

Members of the the Radiant Heart, Everwatch Knights, and Rocky Creek gathered in Greenest to prepare several empty wagons and begin their way east. Before leaving the merchant guild house, House of Cards, having heard of the massive amount of food being purchased, approached and offered to buy out the food. Their offer was politely declined and the group made their way towards Asbravn.

Image

Upon their arrival, thirty six other wagons were being loaded and prepared to head out. With the inclusion of the wagons brought with them, forty wagons in total began the train towards the city of Baldur's Gate. An unprecedented amount of food had been purchased, which seems to have attracted outside attention. Their journey to Elturel was slow, but quiet. Once they arrived boats were brought forth to ship the wagons south along the waterways. An offer was made by a mercenary group to help with shipping the wagons down river. their offer was declined, knowing them to be ex pirates and from Roaringshore, in addition to the fact they knew about the food and came to Elturel to offer help. The decision to not take their help became the obviously better choice, as the group diverted away from a large menacing group.

Image

The wagons were dropped off along the river, in the Fields of Dead, by the forces of Elturel. There the roads were cleared of an infestation of undead; perhaps another groups efforts to thwart the food. Once cleared, the train of wagons continued on to the city, stopping at the Radiant Heart Keep.

Food for many many thousands of people has arrived. After the food is unloaded, distribution will begin..

Once the supplies were delivered, the clergy among the Radiant Heart was fast at work. Distribution was careful and documented down to every cup of grain, ensuring it reached the stomachs of those in need, not secretly hoarded, nor recklessly distributed. Knight Avery oversaw the distribution of food to the many infirmaries in the city, ensuring they would have enough nutrition for their many patients sick with winter's cold. Once the logistics of feeding her patients was done, she returned immediately to work, treating the sick and wounded of the city.

The fields and marshaling yard of the Radiant Heart are packed with wagons of food. Several at a time are brought inside the gates in order to be offloaded. While tallies are being counted to record the food, another wagon arrives, this one escorted by clergy and knights of the Radiant Heart bearing the markings of the High Hall in Athkatla. A missive had been sent asking for any aid that could be provided by the headquarters of the Order of the Radiant Heart. The additional food is accepted and added to the food brought from Asbravn.

an amount of food is set aside for the charity organizations that aid the homeless. Many of the temples receive food for those who rely on them for survival. Other food is brought to stalls set up throughout the city. In an effort to improve the city and to not simply dump such a large load of food in to the trade city's market, at the various stalls the people reeving the food are asked to help in certain ways. Some stalls offer a weeks worth of food to a family, in exchange for several hours spent improving the roads or buildings by replacing and laying stone or brick. Some stalls are set up offering a week of food to a family for several hours spent working upon a struggling farm so that there would be food for next year. Other stalls offered a greater amount of food if those receiving it would take up arms and patrol the roads with members of the Radiant Heart Keep in an effort to help clear the roads of bandits and wildlife; With the dangers of the roads being a core part of the problem of the lack of supplies in the city.

Over the next weeks this continues. The unprecedented amount of food is offered to the people of Baldur's Gate. More then two hundred thousand meals are distributed to the people when the food does eventually run out.

18th of Hammer, DR 1358

Adrian enters the Shelf of Many Books. Here he spends the next several hours looking for books and tomes on various religions, local history, and folk tales. Each is carefully cross-referenced on several factors, and it isn't long before a substantial pile of notes start to build and spread itself out on the table.

More hours are then spent looking for books on Amnian history and folk tales. Both of which are then cross-referenced with the same tomes on religion. A second pile of notes begin to form, with pages now spilling onto whatever surface is available.

The evening grows long, and the shadows longer, before he finally begin to cross-reference both sets of notes. Each correlation creating yet more notes, and retrieval of more tomes.

The view

Unread post by mastajabba »

Up on the small hill in the outer city where the stone walled compound of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart, in one of it’s watch towers the Emerald Scout could be seen with a Paladin and a Cleric as they went and meet with the men in their Watch Towers and Posts. Going over plans and maps of the Outer City.

Orders and tasks explained and drilled into the mind of the men that wore the Sigil of the Radiant Heart. This took most of the day. But when Baldur’s Gate calls for aid. The Men & Women of the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart will be ready to answer the call.

As dawn broke over the city by the sea, an odd sight had a few farmers and their neighbours talking. An elven woman was found in the fountain just outside the city's northern gates: right under one of the streams of water she stood, fully clothed and drenched. Attempts at contact were unsuccessful, going either unheard or wilfully ignored; her eyes remained closed, and she did not speak.

Perplexed and perhaps a bit uneasy - it was cold, after all! who did a thing like that? - the farmers left her be.

An undetermined while later, she was nowhere to be seen.

Blake Hightower can be seen doing is usual rounds paying respect to the monument to past wars.

As he walks in front of the obelisk in the palace district he can be seen murmuring to no one with a smile and heading into the temple of Helm and talk to the Overblade Valdore.

The Ministry of the Torch, ORDO VERATATIS

Unread post by mastajabba »

”Blessed are the Watchers for they keep the peace”

Clad in sun bleached red tunics over heavy chain, a priest walked across the Outer City, delivering Helm’s Blessings to City Watchmen and members of the Illustrious Flaming Fist. He cured the poor and used restoration spells to ease the burdens of the poor crippled. From his paldrons hung from chains a large tablet like Icon of Helm the Ever Watchful on his hip a sheepskin scroll with names of suspected witches, warlocks and Rogue Magi that had been given to the Street Ministry of Ordo Veratatis.

He Reached the busy roadside campfire and delivered a fiery sermon. Speaking of the evils of Pact Magic and of Witchcraft. A Radiant Knight asked questions and the Pious Priest delivered Helm’s Blessing to him. Praise be the Radiant Knights whom keep Vigil over the City.

A large wagon arrived tonight from the south being escorted by members of the Bladestone Foundation and the Radiant Heart. To the surprise of many it was not any food-cart delivery, but one also escorted and driven by... Lizardfolk.

The Hollowmoon tribe of Lizardfolk, after some negotiations with the Foundation on the Lion's Way and meeting up with the Heart on the south side of the Chionthir River, have brought enough salted meats of boar and venison to feed 250 adults (probably more if made into some good stews! :D ). Not a long term fix, but a helpful one. The food will be added to the food already being distributed by the Heart as the Foundation has no facilities for that in the city proper.

No gold or trade exchanged hands, apparently the chief of the peaceful Lizardfolk requested a favor of Derik Ranloss and Aaron Lyonar (sp?). What he would want from a Baldurian lord and another member of the Security Council is anyone who wasn't there's guess.

After the food was unloaded, the Hollowmoon Shaman stopped at one of the fires to share stories and wisdom.
