Housing rules thought

Unread post by artemitavik »

Ok, so, I think I missed a "feedback window" for this or something, but I have a thought....

Subject: Player Housing System - Revised 012422
Planehopper wrote: Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:49 pm All,

Please consider the process below as current for all Player Housing requests. These are subject to clarifications, updates, and changes as needed.

==========
Eligibility:
  • A character must exist for at least four months. The timer starts when either a bio or journal is posted to the forums here or a confirmed private bio is submitted to the DM Team.
  • SEE BELOW FOR TEMPORARY ELIGIBILITY DISPENSATION
  • Players may only own one house (That's per player not character)
  • Housing is non-transferable
  • If player would like to relinquish existing house to pursue housing on a different character, they may do so but will incur all fresh costs.
Starting today, Jan-25th through May-31, eligibility can be met by 1) showing a character has been active for four months via verified RP posts AND 2) A publicly posted bio or privately submitted bio to the DM Team.

That will allow for those of you that have either put it off, avoided them publicly, or whatever else to still have a chance meet eligibility, while phasing in a more standardized check.

Beginning Jun-1st eligibility will ONLY be met by either a public bio or a confirmed private bio to the DM Team dated at least four months prior, so if you are planning on getting a house 4 months from now make sure your bio is submitted today!
General Rules:
  • Players must provide their own area for a house (see below)
  • There are no discounts or price reductions for any reason
  • All player-made housing areas will be reviewed for adequate content before being accepted
  • Player Houses may be used a stores and places of business so long as realistic
  • Standard/Mundane dwellings, businesses, etc. No extraplanar spaces, etc.
  • The Player owner must enter their house once every 120 days or it will become archived
  • Players cannot select or call dibs on a location without submitting a house and paying the fee
  • Only scripts allowed are lighting script, placable_on_used_jump_player, kemo chairs and those necessary for upgrades (see below)
NOTE: Players found to be violating any of these rules may forfeit their existing player housing as well as opportunities for future housing.
Process:
  • Player sends PM to Developer distro with link to already-built map (.erf file required), screenshot of door/house to use in respective city, and link to qualifying character bio.
  • Request is documented and vetted internally. Verification that door is not already in use, and that player is eligible.
  • Map is vetted at builder discretion. No hidden objects, hidden scripts, or sketchy additions snuck in. This will disqualify user from housing.
  • Player sent agreement, replies with sign off.
  • Player pays gold to DM a dev-determined price tag. DM documents payment internally.
  • Builder will upload, link doors, and create key to be added. This will not happen until gold is paid.
  • Player works with DM team to acquire said keys
The areas will be added as soon as we can do so, but this will be done at the mercy of the update schedule, builder availability, and other factors.
Locations, Sizes, and Cost:
  • Housing will be considered for any settlement, evaluated by the build team for suitability. Factors will include exterior vs interior size, type of home constructed, etc. This will require working with developers and players in some cases as not every map is set up well for player housing (Soubar in particular is difficult for housing at present)
  • Wilderness housing now available. This option will require a small exterior map (likely 2x2 - 3x3) to be linked to an existing wilderness location, in addition to the structure interior. We will be evaluating these for quality as well as fit. Please propose before building.
  • Housing to be limited to 9 tiles total, with layout evaluated by build team for "fit". (some fantasy physics allowed, but no 3x3 flat spaces used for a small house exterior, or 9 story towers in a short building, or L shaped layouts for a square building for example. Make it make some sense.)
  • Cost for settlement housing is a base 300k + 25k per tile used.
  • Cost for wilderness housing is a base 500k + 25k per tile used.
Optional Upgrades:

NPC Upgrade(1 max - Cost 100k)
  • Drink Merchant (This will be a pre-determined store with a set list of drinks - unless items are provided)
  • Food and Drink Merchant (This will be a pre-determined store with a smaller set of drinks and a small selection of foods - unless items are provided)
  • General Merchant (to include up to 10 already-existent items in potentially limited quantities, using template merchant stats)
  • Librarian (Using the in-game library sytem)
  • Other NPC with conversation tree (conversation submitted with area, evaluated before addition)
  • Healer

Function (2 max - Cost 100k)
  • Alchemy bench (the one used in Hilltop and elsewhere)
  • Crafting/Forage bench (the one currently in use several places for beetle shells, etc)
  • KEMO Music box
  • TKL Card Table
This is super cool and I dig it, except for one thing... not everyone uses the forums a great amount, and so excluding someone that has been around for months and months but has never made a RP post doesn't seem fair to me.

Might I suggest adding on top of that "Can verify with three witnesses active server play time for 4 months" too? that way people who just don't like to use the forum but are all over can also get a house (since, yes, not everyone likes forum work) too, along with the person who makes a couple posts, barely logs in for 4 months, and suddenly qualifies for a house.

Not bloody likely. I've been trying to talk PH into making concessions far milder than what you're suggesting, and the best we got was the "temporary eligibility dispensation" in the post you quoted.

It's just not happening.

Add a datetime column in SQL, read the bic creation date. Choose whichever is older. Confirm the character level for being above 20 for recognized investment of time than created and sat idle.

On another note... this probably belongs in viewtopic.php?f=10&p=933401#p933401. Now that I'm looking at it more closely, that thread hasn't been closed yet.

It does sort of further widen the divide between forum users and non forum users as separate classes of players.

Being a non forum user makes you ineligible (or at least have reduced eligibility) for a lot of things in-game, from guild membership to event inclusion, and this is just one of those things.

In a just system, reasonable concessions would be made for those who meet the spirit of the criteria (activity and investment), even if they don't perfectly meet its letter.

Keeping a record of things is important tho, and that's kind of why the forum use is so incentivized. Proof that your character has been participating in the world. And I feel it would be annoying for devs to always have to pull up a list of bic files or whatever. Or maybe its not and im wrong.

Going to lock this one. Keep it in the main feedback thread please.

Bios are to remain a requirement, the same way guilds are required to have a forum post for a length of time before they build a guild hall.

Thanks for the feedback.
