Appearance

Davka is a youthful looking gnome, his skin a dim grey hue and eyes dark grey, always hiding behind thick golden-framed glasses. He's on the short and chubbier side, even for his race, and wears comfortable but nice clothes that cover him well against the elements. His bald head is sometimes covered by a hood, though only when cold out. His walk is almost duck-like, as if his legs are a little crooked, but overall he is quiet in his steps.

He always wears a backpack, attached to it one can easily see a few vials, a hard-covered bluish book and, when he's not wielding it, a beautifully crafted staff with a blue gem at the end. On his neck, one may recognize a symbol to the Rider of the Winds, Shaundakul, carved from a piece of smooth stone.

Personality

To describe Davka in a few words, he's aloof, scholarly, honest and curious. He lacks a degree of social awareness due to his own instincts as a deep gnome, a general lack of sociability and an overwhelming sense of curiosity for any and all that fascinate him. He is usually relaxed and acts quite distracted, but as soon as something fills his mind, his hyperfixation takes over and he'll not rest until he finds the answers he wants or he understands those to be impossible to attain for the moment.

Unlike many of his race, he's not extremely shy, though that changes if around too many people. He has a love for the surface born out of curiosity, and tends to be more energetic there than down in the Underdark. He's quick to speak on his researches and studies, and his personality, when he's comfortable, hides absolutely nothing. He's a horrible liar.

Studies & Faith

Shaundakul

The Rider of the Winds, an unusual faith for a svirfneblin, but Davka has been drawn to his faith as an explorer and scholar of portals and wind currents. Davka's time spent on the surface began as the research of those aspects, but soon turned into a journey of discovery and devotion into the faith, that he now fully identifies with.

Of Portals and the Wind

Besides his faith, Davka has been an avid researched of both teleportation spells/effects and wind currents and its effects on the world around them. Though without any groundbreaking discoveries as of yet, the gnome is at the same time tireless and patient, a product of the long life of a svirfneblin and an endless curiosity towards the subjects he's hyperfixated on.

Youngest sibling of three, Davka was born on a small and secluded deep gnome village a few dozen miles out from Blingdenstone, in that village he grew up for most of his youth. From a family of jewelers, it was early that he started to learn the craft, but it didn't take long before he dreamed of bigger things, and soon after that, uncharacteristic to his kind, he set out for a bigger city of more opportunities.

It was in Blingdenstone that he started on a study of the Art along with a small group of other scholars, and years of study granted him a good grasp on such things. Working part-time as a jeweler, using the skills of his family's craft, he maintained himself in the city for a couple of decades as he studied and matured. During these studies, he saw himself most of all interested in the studies of portals, deepening his knowledge on planar travel, transmutation and conjuration magic, and for many years he focused on those.

At one point, he saw himself handed an opportunity by one of his colleagues: to go to the surface and aid him in his own research. Davka promptly accepted, as he saw it a way to further his own studies while helping his colleague. And so he did, as they both spent half a dozen years together studying magical beasts in the interest of Davka's colleague.

After those years, the colleague went back down to Blingdenstone, but Davka refused to return, and for more than two decades he saw his studies of teleportation magics further themselves, and also saw himself interested in wind currents and their correlation with the amazing natural world of the surface.

In that research, he encountered the faith of Shundakul in the form of travellers that soon took him in. For years more he travelled with them, ever drifting, nomadic. He didn't see much of the world, or at least the others of Shaundakun faith led him to believe it, and eventually Davka saw himself return to the Undardark, now, however, with a newfound taste for exploration.

It'd be a few more years until he saw a reason to return to world-seeing however, and during those years he deepened his understandings of the Art and of his own Faith, and eventually he'd claim himself an explorer, who's abilities are now extensive enough that he could travel anywhere he wished to go.

♦ His colleagues! He had a good handful, and any would know that Davka is always eager to help with research.
♦ Shaundakuns! His faith is strong enough to be a cleric, and as such he'd gladly further the interests of the Shaundakun Church.
