Protection From Alignment/Magic Circle Ditto
How often do you even see charm and dominate used outside of PvP and RP? Making PFE and related spells only protect from that nerfs them into uselessness. I understand that full immunity was overpowered, so how about +4 will saves instead?

Vampires like the ones in the Cloakwood actually routinely try to dominate you... sometimes successfully.

Protection from Alignment offers 3 benefits:Flatted Fifth wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 12:23 am How often do you even see charm and dominate used outside of PvP and RP? +2 to universal saves vs alignment
+2 deflection AC vs alignment
Immunity to Charm, Compulsions, Possession, and Domination (Regardless of source)
While the Deflection AC dosen't stack with other effects, IIRC the universl saves bonus does, which combined with the loss-of-control immunities still leaves it fairly potent for a 1st level spell, since it still grants immunity to some Epic Spells, like Damnnation, among other things.

And that +2 will stack with other spells that grant saving throw bonuses? And I don't think that citing a spell i have never seen used is going to convince me that you guys over did it with the nerf hammer when you reduced BOTH it's effectiveness AND the duration .
+4 will saves instead of immunity to spells practically nothing uses.

Re: Protection From Alignment/Magic Circle Ditto
There's quite a few places with confusion (which is a Compulsion) effects, actually.
And yes, universal saves (including saves vs spells from feats and spells [protection against spells] and spellcraft, saves vs poison [spiderskin] and so on) stack all the way up to a bonus of +20. So PfA now gives +2 vs alignment, stacking up to +20 with other sources.
It was too strong as it was anyways. Level 1 spell with practically mind blank for all content. I also suggest you tone down the accusations of design decisions done in bad faith.

Eeeeexcept those aren't covered. Relevant excerpts from my analysis in the staff Discord:
While I only found the Paizo ruling after suggesting my own, their reasoning in the Pathfinder FAQ pretty much matches my own in 3.5e: The verbosity of the SRD is not (always) superfluous, and in this case, every word has been placed into the spell description for a specific purpose. Additionally, the current charm/dominate immunity relies solely on vanilla code, and is thus easier to implement. We have descriptor-based immunity, but it's a little more taxing on server resources, and in this particular instance, it'd be a fair bit more taxing on dev time because of how many different ways this particular immunity could be bestowed by the PfA line and its offshoots.Dalo Lorn, in Discord wrote: ... i just noticed a loophole

you know what, i think we're misreading this
we're reading it like this:but i think it might be more correctly read like this:or to exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject, such as dominate person)so it's not all Charm/Compulsion spells, just the ones that control youor to exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject, such as dominate person)
this seems relevant... https://rpg.stackexchange.com/a/63472
(... People talk while I'm continuing my research...)
there's a number of threads on the Paizo forums that seem to agree on PfE not blocking Confusion in Pathfinder, but i'm still trying to find a 3.5 ruling
(... More people talking...)
okay, i stand corrected. there's an FAQ answer that specifically says PfE doesn't block Confusion or Sleep. still Pathfinder, though
there's a lot of interesting answers here, though, besides the PfE thing... https://paizo.com/paizo/faq/v5748nruor1fm#v5748eaic9o2p
(Also, people might find it inconvenient that standing next to an angel blocked half of their buffs. But if you guys are okay with that sort of thing, I could also take the time to implement the buff-blocking part of Mind Blank, which I notice has a less verbose description than I'm comfortable with...
