Option 2 .

Since all options will include a balancing act , I like this one best .

Edited to clarify and reevaluate .

If option 3 doesn't wreck martials I could live with it but as it stands my vote goes to option 4

I'm not interested in option 1 or 2 I feel like they remove a lot of build options.

If it was the case, I would have stopped playing Rose since a while. Requiem is a blessing for Rose, especially with the ToT.
Nathe wrote: Sun Oct 02, 2022 10:02 am until lvl 12 you were required to improve your RPing in your local area, until lvl 18 in the surrounding area, and from that on, you were required to make changes that would entirely shape the world, like creating a spell like Bigby's crushing hand for a wizard, conquering and ruling a fortress for a blackguard, etc.
Fun, no doubt, but the point is: who checks all that RP? The DMs. Do we really want to overburden the DMs even further? Because if they can't witness any of this, you'll be forever stuck at a certain level. Then frustration will grow. And more drama will happen.

I was in a similar server as a DM with a lower population than this one, and doing something like this is overwhelming mentally.

Fun, but not doable in the long term... unless you create a number of quests / events where each increases reputation and it can progress without much of the DM supervision - risking to forget one character or to not care about him/her because they are in different timezones (we're not everyone US, we have some from EU and some from Australia and some elsewhere too).

Also, yes, please DM/Admin: add reputation as we discussed in the past! Not essential, but it could be fun to give a direction to our RP! With maybe a bar saying what's your rep in several cities!

Giving it some thought. I'm not sure how much of a good/bad idea this is. Especially since this is a one quarter thought out thought. And I dont believe I can articulate it well enough.

But option 2 with some tweaking, not as is, could actually be kind of hype?

What if post level 20/15/whatever is when traditional levels end? And you can select the "specialization".

See my logic here is that classes seem to be almost incidental to many people for whatever their RP/goal with the character is. Often it can be a fairly random hodgepodge to get a concept working. What if said concepts were "specialization classes"? Classes that give small bonuses towards the concept both for combat and non combat situations. Without directly granting any power. So constrained within the effective level, ability score, +1 attack roll etc as mentioned for the OG proposal.

As an example Knight, Greathander (Someone focusing on great weapons like greatswords, axes etc.), Weapon Expert (Someone who mastered their chosen weapon. Weaponmaster is crit master), Scholar, Diplomat etc. Or maybe just having it be a single "Specialized" Class where feats determine the direction kind of like ranger has feats to determine which fighting style you use. Which would be the saner way of doing it as opposed to a class per concept.

So giving a lot of build options without outright giving you power. To ensure we keep flexibility and diversity while keeping the strength in check.

This way you are X level narratively and mechanically while having a few extra "levels" of what is essentially experience or honing your style to a sharp point with the diminishing returns you'd expect. As in they aren't full levels. So it would tone down the power levels of everyone and you could say that mechanically speaking everyone is X level as well as narratively the same. So bringing that in line too.

Feels like that could have some potential to be interesting? But even more work. Not sure what everyones thoughts on my quarter thought would be.

At the end of the day though the whole point is that its fun.

I like proposal 2, the FRCS thing, BUT add another option for what happens when you gain a level beyond 20: Gain an additional non-epic feat.

@Rhifox:

If you opt to go with any of the proposed changes, will you allow a long period of 100% RCR so that people can adapt and not be limited to a one-time remake which will be burnt if you make a mistake that one time? Most of these changes would cause a greater gameplay upheaval than the recent combat patch, and some of us have already made enough mistakes RCRing to adapt to that.

Hello all,
I thought I might add my opinion as the question has been asked:

1 > 2 > 3; and I dislike 4.

That said, others servers exist again that cater to my preference of lower-power, smaller-scale, and meaningful consequence, so I see no need to insist on that here.

Cheers,
Kit

Low Power or Low Level Servers with Low cap hardly exists for a reason, and it's cause they don't last very long or have the staying power behind them. Few exceptions exists, at least in nwn:ee, EFU and Ravenloft are two that come to mind, EFU being a server you make a character, do cool shit and die in a specatcular way(13 level cap), And Ravenloft, that has been around for ...quite some time, with its main selling point being the setting and the focus on Horror and what not.(Each server has its own issues, but this isn't here or there).

Forgotten Realms as a Setting caters to Back water stories with the threat of Goblin or Orc Invasion in your local bumble loving town being the "Business".

I think FR as a setting works with stakes like that. Your town or Kingdom in Danger and perhaps the PVE content should be reworked in order to cater to that idea in mind, when it deviates into Planar Threats, Far Realm Threats or other dangers and threats that go beyond the Kingdom, the spaghetti begins to crumble.

While pnp does *Feel* good in lower levels, 15 being max and what not, Epic Levels work well when the setting itself supports it, else you have to introduce more threats that go beyond the Kingdom.

How that gets represented in PVE is a good place to start, and then go from there.

Rhifox, thanks so much for opening this conversation and to all of the community for your thoughtful replies.

While I am not personally opposed to any of these solutions and probably would enjoy any of them personally, I am very concerned for the future vitality of the server in any option besides a variant of option 4. Even option 3 is a lot of change and options 2 or 1 are a huge risk of change to the player community, staff, and DMs.

I can see a server that is healthy and vibrant with a rework of the server under option 4 and we know already that there is still a population of the server playing regularly now even before this with an option 4 game world framework currently. I am concerned that with options 1-2 (and even 3) that the fundamental population of the server and staff and DMs could lose interest and then it's a huge gamble as to what replaces the core remaining population of players playing BGTSCC (if anything). Option 4 seems to be the best positioned to improve some things and add some positive vitality to the game without a massive change that has a lot of potential to do a ton of damage to the permanent vitality of the server. This all being said even if it means less content being achievable over time given the extra workload to devs of an option 4 mechanics framework.

Hello everyone, I dont say much generally but here is my take on this whole thing.

I agree to what have been said before by several other people number 4 is the only way to keep the server intact since the population is low.
But we're gonna keep bleeding players if we dont get easier ways for players to initiate rp with eachother. as it is right now people tend to play in close knit groups with similar agenda character to character, which means that new players easily get the feeling of "dead server" since most of the old guard is keeping to themselves most of the time.

Some things could be solved with some implementations/corrections.

1. Crafting system, A crafting system similar to the one existing on the Potm server (best one i've seen so far) In order for the crafting system to have any value a lot of npc shops would have to dial down what they sell and Mudds would have to close down for good in order to promote meaningful player interactions, both high level players and lower level would have more meaningful rp with eachother due to this medium.

2. Removal of Mudds auction house. Lets be frank having Mudds easily available is crippling a lot of potential rp to be had since natural player markets wont spring up in order to sell the hard earned stuff found.

3. Dungeons are indeed quite a bit stale, Running round and round in dungeons is a bit mindnumbing for most players (and it sure does not help good rp spring up)
I think having dungeons with a start and an end would make them way more satisfying and easier to form rp around than the grindeons we have right now.

4 Away with the Epic merchants! Atleast put them back in Avernus. having players form caravans in order to buy good items from a hard to reach place is actually good for rp

I hope this will bring the discussion further :D

My vote as DM is number 6.

I know everyone is going to say "There is no number 6, Sb, are you drunk?" To which I will say yes, I am.

But hear me out:

Option 6: "Remove all races except for gnomes"
