Baldur's Bibliotheca Role Play ~ Baldur's Gate

After a busy and eventful night at the Bibliotheca yesterday, the activities of River and Declan's adopted cat and erstwhile mage grind to an abrupt halt, and he is no longer seen even briefly vacating the premises. It appears that he has suffered some kind of injury, for his rest at his usual spot under the coffee table seems noticeably less peaceful, and he seems to be in some pain when he is awake, making a point of moving his tail as little as possible.

Was this an accident, or an act of malice? If it was the latter, who would have dared harm the librarian's sapient pet, and for what reason...?

Whether by coincidence or deliberate action, a large gathering at the Bibliotheca saw more people exiting than had recently entered it: Among the parties exiting was a disheveled half-elven mage, clad in torn, dirty robes. His conversation with the group accompanying him is loud enough to ascertain that he used to be the Bibliotheca housecat.

More oddly, he seems to express some measure of regret that he had returned to his natural form when he did...

Heartbroken by the turn of events, River has continued to put together the cat tree she
had been building for her now former housecat. Perhaps it was time to adopt a kitten.
A true kitten, though she knew in her heart it wouldn't share quite the same friendship
as she'd once had with her once cat now Elf. How many cats can be found, that you can
truly understand you, and even respond? It was, without question, a once in a lifetime
friendship she will never forget.

After his quiet, early departure from the Masquerade last night, Vilmar returned to the Bibliotheca, still wearing his impassive metal mask. Those arriving before the inevitable next set of tremors would see all the books had been meticulously reshelved after the quake that occurred shortly after his return, as they usually were when he was awake.

Curiously, he never took the mask off before going to sleep on the sofa...

Oddly energized from the night of dancing with Declan
River returned to home. As she passed the 'once cat now
mage's sofa', she couldn't help but give pause. With a blink
she canted her head, looking at the mask once, and again.
"Odd." She thought, "that one would sleep so soundly in
a mask not made for slumber.." With a little shrug of her
shoulders, she returned to her happy thoughts and trotted
upstairs to enjoy the remainder of the night with her beloved..

Though Vilmar does not take his mask off in the days since the Masquerade, save for the purposes of hygiene, nutrition, or legal requirements, and his mood generally doesn't seem to change over the following tenday, Ao's announcement and the restoration of the Weave in the Outer City quickly add a sense of vigor to his activities - insofar as the scrawny mageling was ever capable of displaying vigor in the first place.

The mask remains, for now, but the end to the incessant forced reshelving of the preceding month seems to have been warmly welcomed, and the reactivation of his magical items has once again emboldened him to venture out into the increasingly chilly world outside the Bibliotheca... as long as he doesn't need to go into the dead magic zone within the city proper...

As the months went by, the Bibliotheca's ex-feline librarian had grown increasingly comfortable in his new position. Despite Vilmar's improvised living accommodations, he doesn't seem to offer much complaint, and over time, it becomes more and more common for him to be seen at the large table in the back of the library, or occasionally using the blackboard in the classroom. Often, he might leave notes and diagrams scattered across the table as he attends to his responsibilities or bodily needs, though he tries not to leave such things out in the open if he exits the Bibliotheca outright.

Until today.

After returning from the Temple of Tyr last night, the half-elf could be seen slowly but intently scouring the house for any of his belongings that might not have been stored in his magic pouch. He seems intent on stowing away all but a few specific items, regardless of whether he is there to protect them:

• The suit he purchased from House Divine for the upcoming wedding.
• His staff.
• Himself and the clothes on his back.

Additionally, he now constantly wears his brown travel coat on top of the robes he had generally been observed wearing throughout the city. Whatever his reasons are, and however it came to pass, he no longer seems satisfied with his life at the Gate...

Later in the morning, a priestess in red and gold could be seen entering the Biblioteca. She scanned the many shelves of books for the subject of lycanthropy. Particularly, she was looking for information on its process, potential cures, history of werewolf sightings on the Sword Coast, as well as known locations where werewolves have been known to reside. She hoped that with this research, paired with her questioning the locals about the recent events of werewolf sightings and attacks, she would be able to find some answers on where to find these werewolves in the daylight hours. But would this library have some answers? She would only find out as she set to reading...

The priestess would find a plethora of information regarding Lycanthropy,
amid the many shelves of the Bibliotheca.
She would discover the link between good Lycan and Selune,
within the shelves housing the books of the faiths of Faerun.
She would read of the many uses of Belladonna,
within the pages of the herbal remedy books.
And she would read many a theory and belief on the subject,
each varying widely depending on the Author.
Where the local Lycan could be found in daylight hours, however,
was not something noted within the pages of the small library.

OOC: I will be on vacation from 2/11 to 2/18.
The Bibliotheca will be left in the capable hands
of Declan Nash until my return.

Within its outstretched arms he placed a torn page he had 'borrowed' from a book within the Gate's bibliotheca -- an illustration of a white diamond with a fiery blue star at its center.

Vilmar would likely pick up on the damage sometime within the coming days; having no longer deemed it prudent to conduct his usual studies while he remains at the Gate, he has plenty of free time (and nothing better to do) with which to catalogue and examine the handful of books that people remove from the shelves for whatever reason.

Lacking the advanced divinations required to identify the culprit, however, he would take no further action at the moment.

The rain fell, as oft it does in the Gate.
The small librarian could be seen in conversation with an armored
figure donning a cloak that marked him to be one of the Radiant Heart,
not far from Blunt's merchant stand.. Shortly after the two withdrew
to the library to continue the conversation out of the rain.

Joined, soon thereafter, by Rose of the White Mask, the three remained in the
warm confines of the library for some time. Two later departing, separately,
while River herself, remained within to retire for the night's passing..

A soft prayer for her beloved Declan given.. asking Torm to keep him safe as
his needed presence in Triel continued to keep the two parted by the miles..


The following evening, a few patrons could be seen entering and leaving.
One such patron left a beautiful horse hitched just outside the library.
Antoher, stayed for a short while to speak of books and antique tomes.
More still came, browsed, and left...
The last of which, left her grumpy and in sour spirits...

Having written the help wanted sign some hours after midnight, she looked at the correction with
mild annoyance.. Heading back to her desk she rewrote it.. tore the original down.. posted the correction
without Vil's scribblings.. and muttered about cats being less pratty..
