Flowers Blooming in the Chapel

Visitors of the Chapel of the Broken God can spot tiny flowers, blooming through subtle cracks in the floor. A faded fresco has left a rainbowish pattern upon the old, wooden floor. The ambiance of the Chapel remains soothing, calm and peaceful, perhaps more than usual. The flowers seem cared for, dearly. Some rumor say they are the remaining of a holy manifestation that occured not so long ago to honor dead children.

A dark, curly-haired figure has found herself caring for the Ilmateri infirmary's newest patient. For each dawn he lies in the bed there, a vase of marigolds is set on his bedside table; and with each new day, the water in the vase is changed out and any wilting flowers are exchanged for freshly cut ones. Flanking the vase is a small bowl of candies: red and yellow, lemon and raspberry.

She enters and leaves intermittently throughout the day, sometimes lingering for hours, sometimes playing a lute, sometimes writing -- then when the moon rises, she leaves a sealed envelope under his pillow and leaves for the night. The actual treatment of this individual is left to the Ilmateri.

In the calm and the quiet

The deafening agitation of the earth and sky left little mark in the Sanctuary of Ilmater. Sister Ashenie answered the growth of worries with serenity. Quiet endeavors have been offered to welcome all in troubled times. Baths, food and soup, warmth and comfort around an infusion to discuss the perspective of a world without divine answers, or without magic. No shame or fear, but words of perseverance and patience shared, as always in endurance, "better times will come, as relief". This unyeilding hope ever treasured, night and day. While the display of magic was not usually seen, it has been almost banished. The wounded are treated with herbal preparations, woundwort, bloodstaunch, bloodflowers, saint john's wort... all composing a mosaic of healing offered to whoever suffer, to the passing adventurers, the guards or the citizens. Smiles always shared, hope nurtured and Faith kept. As Ilmatari often say, "Today is the first day of what is left of your life... so live it well".

In the quiet of the night, prayers are still whispered by he veiled Sister. Without the need of answers, without expectations. It is said that some of the Sisters of the Shrine do not even pray for magic anymore, as to spare the divine enough power to carry on, or to shelter the weave believed torn, or for some mystic and misty endeavors. Some speak of ritual penances to help the world cope with this suffering. Words of hope echoe in the chapel for the torn families, the lost and the forsaken. For whoever who suffer, and for whoever endures. Candles are still lit, as if the troubled time did not affect the rituals. Newborns are welcome in the same ways, with "
The Welcoming" to honor Saint Jasper of the Rocks, anointed with herbal prepartions that echoe the blessings and protection usually whispered through the divine. Some say it is just another burden, a trial, or another hardship to cope with. Even in silence, the teachings and promises of Ilmater echo, as if they found a particular meaning in a crying world.

The dead are tended dearly, and each corpse brought to the church is bathed with prayers of compassion, care and attention.

For the One who Endures, words of hope and compassion, as if He was Himself one of those who had to endure. Some Sisters pray for Him, trying to commune with the spiritual essence He embodies, without magic.

In the calm and the quiet, tenderness, calm and care are shown, in this hearth that is nurtured with all the attention mothers, sisters, wives and daughters can summon.

As darkness settles over Baldur's Gate, a city watchman takes up a post within Mercy's Orphanage. He lingers in the entry area, always in sight of the front door and ground windows. Departing the site only after the sun rises.

To the youngest and the oldest alike, the presence of many armored figures is explained. Simple words paint the straining reality of protection against darkness, harm and nightmares. To children in awe, hope is nutured in the example of duty that many uphold. To the most scared, the warm embrace of safety is provided. To each their own, and more time is devoted to the task as the presences grow in number. Tales are told, names are shared, and in the quiet of the night, lullabies are sung in the Orphanage. Some of the keepers and watchers at night might hear the soft-spoken song of hope, care and reassurance that a sister hums. With no agitation from the Orphanage's caretakers, calm and reassurance seem to prevail.

Merciful Grace

The Temple of the Broken God wishes to thank all who partook the effort to keep children safe, and to protect the Orphanage from harm. Many answered the call, fearlessly faced the horrors of another world. Our gratitude, for the children, and for our city, is beyond words.

Many have been wounded, suffered injuries, or faced death. The losses are painful, and shall be observed with greatest respect, gratitude and mercy. We hope that we can endeavor enough to honor the fallen and the wounded, and thank them properly with more care and attention to those in need. Families can reach us, for we will pray for the fallen and offer anything we can to help their loved ones.

To all defenders, whoever they might have been, and whatever causes opposed them, we thank you for this moment of unity in favor of the children.

Peace be with you,

A woman in red visited the church one morning to ask about the orphanage under their care. Simply introducing herself as Red, the woman left a modest donation to one Sister Ashenie, and asked to be informed whenever a possibility of a visit may arise.

Early in the morning of the 13th of Eleasis DR 1358 four members of the Bladestone Foundation made their way to the Church of Ilmater. Derik Ranloss, Lylan'Synor, and Niyressa Dawncrow. All of them looking fresh from a lengthy fight with various signs of fatigue and injuries. Their fourth member, however, entered on a stretcher, and in an even worse condition. Soon enough the healers had a busy day on their hands, stabilizing injuries of ruptured organs and broken ribs on the stricken man.

(( Thank you DMs Ink, Autumn, and Winter for the amazing event! Worth every painful injury! ))

The children are welcome with warmth and care. A meal shared, stories of wondrous heroes told and sung, in the quiet of the night. The oldest are seen privately, and explained the circumstances of such times, the choices made and the meaning of sacrifice. All are offered time, care and support.

Plans seem to be devised for future arrivals, and a new organisation follows. Even in troubled times, it seems that the caretaker endeavor to keep this place warm, welcoming and joyful. In the Orphanage, white roses seem to be everywhere. Crowns of flowers, suspended, in offering, with the Caretakers and the children; a silent reverence to Pure Duty displayed in harmony.

Yesterday, the man known as Derik Ranloss was brought to the Ilmateri temple for treatment. He was unconscious and missing most of his left arm, which had been cauterized and bloodstaunched.

Further examination showed multiple internal injuries of various degree and some head trauma, though none considered life threatening. Known to have a cloak with minor regenerative enchantment on it, it is believed that using that as a blanket for now will eventually heal the minor internal injuries, but certainly will not regrow his arm. Well, it would, except for the lack of any magic currently working in the city.

He has yet to awaken, likely due to blood loss and the head trauma.

The pink-haired Tiefling visited the temple today, concerned about the fate of the wounded man she was dressing yesterday. When she learned from the priests that he was sleeping, she decided not to wake him. Instead, she asked only to deliver a drawing she had drawn for him and her best wishes. She explained to the priests that her "art" showed his valiant deed and his fight against Bhaal.

A raven-haired elf traverses the Ilmateri temple and infirmary with vases of flowers in hand; they bear yellow roses, fragrant marigolds, and large sunflowers. Unless turned away by whoever lies in bed, a vase is left with whoever will take it -- or those who lie unconscious. The vases are delivered mostly quietly, save for her humming softly.

Very quickly does she come to leave pumpkin cookies and milk at the bedside of the sun elf known as Lily. Only with the other elf does she produce any words with her humming.

*Since yesterday's fight with Bhaal, Niyressa has been spending all her time at the Ilmateri temple. Though she never comes down from the higher floor where she can at all times be seen sitting by Lylan's bed, checking her breathing and otherwise taking care of the sunelf. Some people would wonder if she ever slept, some might know that she manages to squeeze in handful of short breaks whenever someone is able to monitor Lylan instead. The woman encourages anyone visiting Lylan to speak to the comatose elf, with a tired smile.*
