Log in was NOT most recent save, cost me irreplaceable items

Unread post by Flatted Fifth »

Just now I was making a complete inventory of the 100+ items in my main character's storage. Taking items out of storage till my 1st inventory pane was full, using my other laptop to document the items, putting them back in storage so they appear at the end after a known item. Got the server message that server was about to reboot, so I saved TWICE then logged out. Waited a few minutes, logged in after reset, my inventory was not at the point that I had left it. It was several minutes before my last save resulting in several items that should have been in my inventory were not. Went back to my storage NPC, the missing items are not there.

Here's what I lost (note that some things are RIG items that I named and some are specific loot table items, but it should be fairly obvious which is which):

Things I REALLY would like back because I was hoping to trade them for decent stuff
Hidden: show
Reinforced Darkleaf Plate - 8/2, +3 AC

Helm of the Purple Plume - +3 Charisma, +3 Save vs Fear, +4 Concentration Diplomacy Heal Listen, +3 Lore Nobility, Use by: LG, LN, NG

Ring of Woodland Power (x2) - Druid Slot 5, +3 Wisdom, Spell Resist 22, Use by: Druid

Ring of Arcane Power - Wizard Slot 5, +3 Intelligence, Spell Resist 22, Use by: Wizard

Ring of Seething Hatred - Spell Resist 20, Haste CL 10 1/day, Rage CL 20 2/day

Short Sword of Quickness - +3 EB, +1d4 Electric, Haste CL 10 1/day

Elder Oak Gloves - Druid Spell Slots 1 2 & 3, +2 Wisdom, Use By: Druid

Dragon Claws - +4 EB, +1d4 Fire, On Hit Stun DC 14 5%/1 rnd, Immunity Magic Missile

Cold Iron Knuckles - +4 AB, +2 EB, +1 magic dmg vs Chaotic, 5% Acid immunity, cold iron

Claws of Malar - +3 EB, +4 deflection AC
Other items that went "POOF" because the wrong save was loaded when I logged in:
Hidden: show

Witchfinder's Shield - Heavy Shield, Spell Resist 30

Warlock Hunter's Shortspear - +1d4 Magic Damage, Spell Resist 30

Sorcerer's Leafweave - 1/9, 0 ASF, Sorcerer Spell Slot 3, +5 HP

Thistledown - 1/10, 0 ASF, +1 AC, 60% Weight (3 lbs)

Witchfinder General's Plate - 8/1, Spell Resist 30

Lyonsbane Ring - +2 Constitution and Strength, +2 Will Saves

Staff of Magic Defense - Quarterstaff, +3 deflection AC, Spell Resist 30

Ring of Dexterity - +3 Dexterity

Talisman of Pure Evil - +2 Charisma and Wisdom, Spell Resist 20, Use by: Evil

Opera Gloves - +3 Charisma

Armbands of Toughness - +3 Constitution

Scabbard of Blessing - Bless CL 2 3/day, Aid CL 3 3/day
Also, some things were duplicated, such as +4 ac boots of speed, a ring of +4 ac, and an assassin's turban. I will be happy to campfire destroy them if someone would be so kind as to at least restore the first list of things, pretty pretty please? Again, please note that these things were lost NOT because I dropped them or was careless or didn't save, they were lost because on relog in my character was loaded from a much earlier save than the last one.

Account and character name, please? We can check if it was a dupe, or else provide a rollback or otherwise restore the items to your storage.

Thanks so much!

Account name FlattedFifth
Character:Siobhan Deschaine

If you wanted to roll just roll back to day before that would be fine. I'd only be out 80k or so coin from selling some +4 ac boots with Mudd, I haven't found any noteworthy items in a long time. I can get that coin back in a few days.

My items are still missing from my storage. Is storage via npc in the bic file or in the server? Because if it's not in the bic rolling back my char won't do any good unless you examine every save state and find the one that has the missing items in its inventory. If it IS in the bic then I have to assume you were going to roll back my char but haven't got around to it, which means that char is now unable to go do much because if I find anything cool it'll be gone when you do roll it back. So...... basically unable to play my main right now because you said you might roll back and idk if you will so if I go find anything neat it might go poof.

Just got to this now. Please check your storage. Most of the times listed here should be in there again. A couple from your second list weren't included as I couldn't find a record of their being deposited on the day your issue occurred.

You are recommended not to do this kind of withdrawing/depositing hundreds of items thing in the future, the systems are not robust enough and it can lead to issues like this.

Thanks so much! Some of my stuff back is better than none, and although I was hoping to trade the 2 druid rings at least I have the monk stuff back, so thank you!

I wasn't actually doing hundreds at once. I was withdrawing 24 or so, writing down their descriptions in a text editor, then depositing again, and repeat. I only managed to do that a couple times before the reset warning came. I saved twice, logged out, and when I logged back in after reset it was not the inventory I had left off with, nor the storage I'd left off with.

And yes, I realize having 100+ items in storage isn't good. I was logging everything so I could sell or trade it.

P.S. I went ahead and campfire destroyed the few items that got duplicated. Thanks again!

P.P.S. My 2 druid rings had no record? I can understand the opera gloves (gloves of +3 charisma) and armbands of toughness (bracers of +3 constitution) not having records because they were RIG items I renamed AFTER withdrawing them, but the druid rings had no record? That's weird.

Well 24 at a time but multiple 24s still adds up. :P But yeah, there's issues with how depositing/withdrawing always saves the storage but the character doesn't, which can result in incidents like this.

Were you having to withdraw them because it wasn't letting you examine their description/stats while they're in storage? I've noticed an error when trying to do that, but I thought it was only on s2 rather than s1.
P.S. I went ahead and campfire destroyed the few items that got duplicated. Thanks again!
Thanks. I also cleaned up your vault as there were some duplicate bic files.

No record on the same day, which meant I couldn't verify whether or not you had attempted to return it back to storage. Everything I returned had its deposit date on the date you mentioned having problems.

I couldn't even find anything called Opera Gloves. It's possible there were gloves of charisma but that wasn't the name you gave.

Yes, I can't examine the items properties while they're in storage, I have to withdraw them.

Thanks! Is it possible the duplicate bics were causing save problems?

I renamed them after I withdrew them. They were probably either called something unimaginative like "Cha III", or possibly still named whatever rando name the RIG initially gave, I don't recall. It doesn't matter, I was probably going to sell them for 2100 or so. That's nothing for a lvl 30 as you know. Fuggetaboutit :)

Cheers!

Happens on s1. For example Nashkel and Greenest give the notice 'Unable to view items at this location' but I am able to view item at Blunt in BG.

Wrong save happened again, though this time I only got duplicate items, not missing items, because I was cataloging hours away from reset.

Withdrew 24 (and just 24, once) items, catalogued them, returned them to storage, saved, logged out. When I logged in again almost 24 hours later the last 8 items I had put into storage were back in my inventory. Went to storage, and they were in there as well. Destroyed duplicate items via campfire.

Should I try moving all my stuff to Blunt, or would that make matters worse? I have 143 items in storage.

I'll leave the question for admin to answer, but perhaps it would be easier to have things at a location where you can view them? I don't know.

However, I did a small test run. I bought a bundle of arrows and went to different locations to try the storage. Here are the results if they would be useful to admin. I do not know what is the difference between the locations. Is the NPC or the area perhaps missing a tag or some other helper?

I just tried a few NPCs at different places. There might or might not be more storage options at different places.

Friendly Arm Inn Merchant: Able to view
Candlekeep Seeker Julia Claire: Able to view
Beregost Interiors Samuel Feldepost III: Unable to view
Nashkel Inn, Shop, Tavern Cameron Goodfellow & Fletcher of Nashkel: Unable to view
Uldoon Trail Halfling Merchant: Unable to view
Greenest Inn Orniff: Able to view
S2 Kraak Helzak Hilia "Inn Keeper" Battlehammer: Unable to view
BG, Outer City Blunt: Able to view
BG, East Gate District Joanna Evenwood: Able to view
BG, Harbor District Interiors Elad of the Merchant League: Unable to view

Nice footwork! Add "Roaringshore, Shortstuff, across from Mud, unable to view" to list.
