Eres grew from humble beginnings in a small moon elf village in The North. She had a mother, father, and an older sister and brother. Her adult sister lived in the village as a fledgling priestess, while her adult brother set out into the world as a traveling merchant. Her father was a former soldier, now carpenter. And her mother was a homemaker and herbalist. The village's way of life was quiet, stoic, and serious. The complete opposite to what Eres was. Not only was Eres the family black sheep, but she was the village black sheep too. Despite the overbearing expectations of comformity, Eres defied, questioned, and even mocked the ways of her tight-knit village.
When it came time for her nameday, the village elder gave her the name "Eres", meaning "chaos and discord". Those in attendance laughed at the name given. But Eres bitterly embraced it. Both frustrated by the village's continued disdain for her by laughing at her name, and feeling empowered by her rite into adulthood and freedom, she took her shining nameday moment to cuss out each and every person who treated her poorly through her 120 years of life in this godsforsaken frozen wasteland that always made her cold. Slewing her insults like a mighty blade, she weaved a profane speech that spared no one and left everyone speechless.
One woman she directed her words to, a cruel former schoolmate, gave off a brief aura as soon as the insults left Eres's lips. The schoolmate started to laugh, uncontrollably. The villagers thought she was possessed. She collapsed in the snow as she continued to laugh, until she pissed herself Then she snapped out of the strange possession and ran off in humiliation. It was in that moment that Eres realized her words, nay, her insults, had some kind of power to them!
Eres told the village to go f**k themselves and left that very same day to make a name for herself. Traveling from town to town, she entertained taverns and street corners with her unique comedy of roasting people both in speech and song. She is always looking for ways to gather fame and coin. When she arrived to Baldur's Gate, she saw a need for both some humor that was greatly lacking, as well as capable adventurers. Confident in her abilities to fulfill both needs, she decided to settle in Baldur's Gate and grace the unsuspecting citizens with her presence.
The Personality
Eres can be intense for some people. With her silver tongue, her mouth can either get a whole room laughing or a whole room angered, depending on the crowd. She tends to be the one to say what everyone is thinking, but is too afraid to say. She can come up with stories right on the spot and entertain people at the drop of a coin. She is quick with her wit and isn't afraid to bite back with her words. But she can also use her words in a very persuasive manner when the situation requires it. She is quite the flirt and makes it part of her goal in life to have as many adventures in the bedroom as she does on the road. If you are a somewhat attractive individual, don't be surprised if Eres tries to court you with her flirty charm. "We're all going to die. Might as well do as much as you can before that happens!" she would always say. Her confidence dances the line of arrogance, but it has also been her shield throughout life.
Despite her apparent passion and joy on the outside, she does harbor somber thoughts and feelings not even her closest people are aware of. Deep down, she does have a strong desire to feel loved and admired by others, mainly from the lack of it she received while growing up. But because of her past, she is also a strong fighter for loving herself, because she's never been able to fully rely on receiving that feeling from anyone other than herself. But with her outgoing and infectious personality, she is always open to gathering more friends and acquaintances. And for the closer friends, you can tell how close you are to her by how much she roasts you. It's how she shows affection, in her own weird Eres way. Those who can call Eres a friend are lucky, for she is fiercely loyal and protective to those she keeps close.
