The Tormtar Knight Alexander Holgart spends time with the local Tyrrans asking to study their books, learn their prayers, rituals and ceremonies.

After some difficulty in order to be understood, due to him being mute, he spends a long time with the local priest hearing about the ways of The Just.

After a long day of study he retires informing the Temple that he will come again for the same purpose.

A new arrival to the church.

A young paladin has presented himself to abbot Eldric Sulnar. He introduced himself as Tyler Eastwing, a squire of the Order of Holy Judgement who was comissioned to the Baldur's Gate church in the face of the rising threats to the region. He moved his belongings to the temple and settled in. After a modest supper, he departed to a martial training, preparing to face the evil plaguing the land.

A new visitor to the church of Tyr, whose presence is noted on a daily basis.

No prayer comes out of her and she doesn't exchange any pleasantries with the abbot.

A posture of indifference, juxtaposed by her daily presence.

To whom it may concern,

I am looking for an assistant to support me in my coming investigations and legal work for the Temple of Tyr in Baldur's Gate.

Given the current state of affairs and the growing request for legal representation in the city, I find myself in need of help. In addition, it is good practice for a Lawkeeper to consider every case through multiple eyes and opinions.

I will be offering such assistant a chance to learn a profession that is direly needed by this city as well as being introduced to the clergy of The Just. The Temple will be offering room and board.

If you value the truth, justice, believe in an orderly society and wish to help us in upholding such values in the city, this is the chance for you.

Truth Guides, Law decides.

OOC disclaimer: I have found myself accepting a couple of cases to bring to trial with my character Logan, instead of doing the work on my own I'd like to extend the opportunity to someone that wants to play a character that fits for this kind of announcement, it's better to do such things with more players instead of doing a one man show. Seek me out OOC if you're interested.

The New Church of Tyr

Unread post by Ashenie »

Before the lights of dawn come to cleanse the sky from the darkness of the night, a quiet woman can be seen washing the walls of the Temple of The Just God. She seems dedicated to the task, removing the sclarlet colors that once colored the stern stones of the Temple. The quiet Sister brought a bucked of water, and a piece of poor soap from the Shrine of the Suffering. Only when her task is done can she be seen pushing the doors of the marble halls, with two letters in hand. As she leaves, her peaceful smile remains, and her gaze, tender, would cheer patience to blossom for any who would cross her path.

Upon the wall of the Tyrran Church, where scarlet letters had been painted, small pieces of parchement have replaced the degradations. Though the paper seems poor, and the letter miserable, the handwriting shows the care of its author.

Caring Justice

It is with care and dedication that I, Sister Ashenie, of the Shrine of the Suffering, am willing to undertake the cause of gathering testmonies of Faith, deeds and misdeeds, tales of shame and honor, scars and smiles left behind, concerning the proceeding involving Daemon Trillus and his upcoming judgment.

For any who wishes to speak in his favor or against him, for any of the victims or defender to be heard, I humbly ask you to find me at your earliest convenience, or through a missive sent to the Abbot Sulnar regarding this precise case. I am committed to take written extract of those tales, and to report them dutifully as I have been tasked during judgment.

For Justice to consider all,

Sister Ashenie,

Lately, at the church of Tyr, a warrior dressed in the blue and white trappings of Tyr can be seen coming and going for the past few days from the new Temple of Tyr. He is dressed in a suit of well-conditioned full plate that appears to be devoid of any impairments as the rays of sunlight coming from the church windows reflects upon it's surface. What's strange about this particular warrior are his eyes which look like a blind man's eyes but radiate a strange blue hue like that of a candle. The priests knew very well who he was and their abbot, Eldric Sulnar, gives Phandalus a wide smile as he approaches...

"Tyr's Blessings be upon you Phandalus, Squire and Paladin of Tyr. Welcome back to this sacred church of justice and law. I trust your days have been at peace and the nights have been quiet?" The abbot asks.

Phandalus clamps his right fist up onto his chest and bows his head respectfully to the abbot. "They have your holiness. The shadow of evil is forever at large but the eyes of justice are never far behind. I am here to contemplate with Tyr in his presence once again".

The abbot nods towards Phandalus and gives him a rather stern gaze. "The shadows of evil Phandalus are always active. Always. Therefore, so must the servants of the blessed god Torm and the god of blind justice, Tyr, the maimed god, also always be active. Never waiver in your duty and the blessings of our lord shall be many. Please, approach the altar and say your prayer. I shall not disturb."

At that Phandalus smiled towards the Abbot and nodded in agreement. He slowly approaches the altar of Tyr and dons his blue feathered houndskull helmet on his head and he slowly draws his longsword from his back and kneels on one knee down onto the carpet; standing his longsword upright and pressing his forehead against the hilt. He begins praying to himself...

As Declan Nash stepped into the sacred halls of the Temple of Tyr in Baldur's Gate, a sense of reverence washed over him. The air was heavy with the scent of incense, mingling with the flickering candlelight that cast dancing shadows on the stone walls. The hallowed atmosphere of the temple enveloped him, creating a sanctuary of tranquility amidst the bustling city.

With measured steps, Declan made his way towards the grand altar at the heart of the temple. The polished marble gleamed under the soft glow of the candles, reflecting the deep devotion and unwavering faith of those who had come before him. He knelt before the altar, his armor clinking softly with the movement, and bowed his head in reverence.

In the stillness of the temple, Declan's voice, low and resonant, broke the silence. His prayer was a whispered invocation, a heartfelt conversation between him and the divine presence he sought. With every word, he poured out his gratitude, his fears, and his hopes, offering them to Tyr, the Just God.

"O Tyr, Lord of Justice and Righteousness," Declan began, his voice filled with reverence. "I come before you with a humble heart and a steadfast spirit. I am grateful for the strength and guidance you have bestowed upon me in my path as a knight, as a protector of the innocent."

He continued, his words carrying a solemn weight. "I pray for wisdom and discernment, that I may always uphold the principles of justice and fairness. Grant me the courage to face the challenges that lie ahead, to stand firm against tyranny and oppression."

As he spoke, Declan's hands, calloused and weathered from battle, clasped together in a gesture of unwavering faith. His fingers intertwined, a symbol of his commitment and devotion to his calling.

"Grant me the fortitude to be a beacon of hope in a world filled with darkness," Declan's voice resonated with determination. "May my sword be an extension of your divine justice, striking down evil and protecting the innocent. Guide my steps and fill my heart with compassion, that I may always strive to bring about a world that reflects your righteous ideals."

As the words of his prayer echoed in the sanctified space, Declan remained in silent contemplation, his spirit reaching out to the divine presence he revered. His eyes closed, shutting out the distractions of the mortal world, as he allowed himself to be enveloped in the presence of Tyr.

In this sacred moment, Declan felt a sense of serenity, a connection to something greater than himself. The weight of his responsibilities and the challenges that awaited him seemed momentarily lifted, replaced by a deep-rooted faith and trust in the path he had chosen.

With a final breath, Declan concluded his prayer, his voice soft but resolute. "I offer myself to your service, O Tyr, the Just God. May I be an instrument of your divine will, an embodiment of justice and righteousness in this world."

As he rose from his kneeling position, Declan felt a renewed sense of purpose. His heart was filled with the sacred energy of the temple, infusing him with the strength to face whatever trials lay ahead. With steadfast determination, he left the altar, ready to continue his quest for justice and the protection of the innocent.

The Ordaining of a Sword of Tyr.
22 Mirtul 1360

Vhaan de Luca, Priest and Warrior of Tyr showed Haldir to the Temple of Tyr, as the elf had requested to hear of Lykah's sins from the Archon herself. After hearing these Truths, Terragona The Flame of the Just called out to Vhaan, asking him his priestly rank. He explained that he grew up in the Halls of Justice in the Jewel of the North, and had been an itinerant priest of the last decade.

Terragona asked him to come forth and kneel. He dutifully did as commanded, kneeling before her and looking up with his steely gaze, a peaceful expression upon his face. She raised her sword wreathed in golden flames.
Haldir spoke, "What has he done?" with a shocked expression, and he almost jumped forward but stopped as he realised the Archon was not going to behead Vhaan.

Terragona spoke thusly:
"By the blessings of Tyr bestowed upon me and in His name, I ordain you as a Sword of Tyr." Lowering her sword on both of his shoulders in a traditional knighting ritual.
"Strike against the Wicked. Right the Wrongs. Bring Law to the Lawless. Order to the Chaos. May your judgement be fair and your hand tempered with mercy."

Vhaan's expression remained still at first, and then his eyes alight.
"I accept the duty thou hath bestowed upon me, and like mine prayer each morn, I commit myself anew to Tyr, in His perfection, His mercy, His justice." And he bowed his head.

"Arise, Sword of Tyr" Terragona spoke, and he stood tall with pride.

She spoke again:
"I have been surveying the temples of the Triad and what function they may serve in the struggle to come."

Haldir piped up, "Struggle to come?"

She continued nonetheless:
"Sword of Tyr, Vhaan de Luca. In your hands I give a holy mission. Spread the word of Tyr and the Triad. Call upon the faithful to pick up arms, armour and shields of their faith. For when the time comes, every valiant heart will be needed."

Haldir asked again, "Uhm, sorry for asking, but when exactly what time comes?

Vhaan nodded, "I shall be of service. Duty bind, mercy bless, justice prevail." and he bowed his head.

Haldir continued, looking at Vhaan, "But... but you don't even know for what?"

She spoke some more: "Collaborate with the just Order of the Radiant Heart. Much discord and chaos has been purged from it. Now, it stands as a bastion of Righteousness. The faithful of Tyr are, likewise, within their ranks."

Haldir, alarmed, "So you have absolutely no idea what will come, right?"

Vhaan focused on the Archon, "They are of course our allies and brethren. I shall ensure we are armed, shielded, and righteous." He paused, looking to his left. "Is there a sign of the impending calamity? What is to come?"

Terragona replied, "No signs have been seen, yet. But remember that through them, we will learn of the nature of the Vile Darkness."

Vhaan nodded, "In all things, we must be vigilant. Those who plan to threaten law and order and the good shall have no footing."

Terragona commanded, "Go forth, then!"

The Tyrran and the elf left the temple. Stepping aside, Vhaan's stoic composure lessened, and he looked at his left white gauntlet-clad hand, which shook in adrenaline. "Vhaan de Luca, Sword of Tyr".

A bard entered the church, whistling cheerfully and leaving a shimmering trail of pixie dust from his cloak. He approached The Abbot and handed him a letter. As he exited, he let out a series of loud sneezes, muttering about being choked by those pesky pixies.

Vhaan de Luca, Sword of Tyr has published a theological treatise entitled A Righteous Jurisprudence, which can be purchased wherever fine bookshops might be found. He donates the original copy to the Temple of Tyr, to be accessible to the public. Reading the below assumes accessing the public copy or a version at a bookshop:

A Righteous Jurisprudence

1360 DR

Vhaan de Luca, Sword of Tyr

“Right Eendeyouarrees – Justice Endures”

Page Two

Jurisprudence
“Keep a record of your own rulings, deeds, and decisions, for through this your errors can be corrected, and your grasp on the laws of all lands will flourish, and your ability to identify lawbreakers will expand.” – Dogma of the Just God

Jurisprudence is the foundation of Tyrran theology, it entails knowledge of Law and Order, and of its function in the proper maintenance of society. To practice jurisprudence is to commit oneself to prayer, study, and reflection on the doctrine of laws.

But it not enough to simply understand a system of laws. To truly serve order and law in faithful reverence to the Even-Handed God and His Triad is to practice a Righteous Jurisprudence. It upholds Truth, Obedience, Mercy, and above all, Justice.

Page Three

Order
“Grimjaws in nigh! In the name of Tyr, this land shall be cleansed of wickedness and anarchy.” – words said to have been spoken by Planetar Antonio of Hjordis.

Appearing more than a millenia ago upon Toril with a burst of light, Tyr gifted our realms with a vision of Absolute Order.

The foundation of Justice is Order. When Order exists, things occur as they ought to; peace ensues, duty is upheld, and communities are bound together under a common good.

Order is the basis through which Virtue can be consistently layered, and through which fairness can prosper. Order is maintained through Law and the devotion and vigilance of the Righteous.

Page Four

Law
A law is a code, a rule. It sets the precedent for what ought to be done, or what shall not be so. An effective law is worded so that its meaning is clear. A Just law is consistent with the body of law, warding against ambiguity and permitting proper judgements. And the Rule of Law is supreme; laws apply to peasant and ruler alike.

Sovereigns and other rulers are vested with the authority to make and revise laws, and they do so in Tyr’s name. Laws created or reformed without prayer to the Just God are without authority, and will inevitably crumble or corrupt.

Outside of proper society, Tyr’s Absolute Law applies; ‘an eye for an eye’. Lacking the sophistication of a body of law, the Absolute Law preserves consistency where there is little else. It entails Order through reciprocation.

Page Five

Punishment
Punishment upholds Law and preserves Order. It makes Right the Wrong. It does not reverse harms inflicted, but deters future wrongdoers. Mercy for the truly ignorant is encouraged where harms are not egregious, but a warning is only given once and is to be recorded.

Where a verdict of judgement has been made in Tyr’s name, all punishments must be delivered. A punishment reflects the damage inflicted unto Order, and to punish the guilty is an indiscriminate act that must be performed, with neither joy, fear, anger, or sorrow.

Deterrence, and the restoration of Order, is maintained by punishment. Having served punishment, one ought to seek atonement. Where a crime has been committed, redemption without punishment is corrupt.

Page Six

Temperance
Tyr brought Justice to the realms, and formed the Triad with Ilmater and Torm. While His Justice is Absolute, it is through Triadic unity that Justice flourishes in full Righteousness through the faithful.

This is so through the Triadic tenet of Temperance. When a judgement is pronounced, punishment ought to be swift and merciful. But to make a judgement one must act with Temperance, combining:

Tyr’s Justice, by learning laws, recording one’s judgements, and identifying lawbreakers.

Ilmater’s Mercy, by sheltering those harmed, and taking up the cause of the oppressed.

Torm’s Duty, by destroying corruption and evil, and serving faith, family, masters, and goodly folk.

Page Seven

Virtue
“May your judgement be fair and your hand tempered with mercy.” – Tyrran blessing

If Order is the foundation of a Righteous Jurisprudence, then Virtue is the material from which the foundation is created, and through which Order serves. To embody Virtue is to be honourable, honest, and true. Consistency to a moral life is the pledge of our faithful.

And yet, one is always confronted with a path that shall test one’s commitment, and one’s capacity to judge. Let duty, prayer, and resolve be one’s guide. It is the striving towards Virtue, in accordance with the tenet of Temperance, that preserves integrity. In the dark, a beacon of Virtue can always be found.

Have faith, and be resolute in the Just.

Page Eight

Justice
A system of laws reflects Justice when it is consistent, when it serves the people to live virtuous and orderly lives, and when its defenders work to ensure that the Rule of Law is maintained, and all guilty are punished. Just servants ensure that poorly worded laws are improved, and the legal doctrine is fit for purpose and executed in full.

No unjust law shall be enforced. An unjust law is one which contradicts other laws or which is out of compliance with the principles and definitions adhered to by other laws in the body of the legal doctrine.

The Blind Overland has revealed a Righteous path of Justice. He has sacrificed His maimed hand to preserve Order, and His blindness is a symbol of the price the truly just must endure on this path.

In the name of Tyr, Justice Endures.
