Gem Merchant that trades up for Diamonds

Gem Merchant. Diamonds suddenly play an important role on the server, obviously. What about all of the other gems? How about having a gem merchant where you cannot buy a diamond (in fact there is no money or coins exchanged at all), but you can trade for a diamond based on the value of other gems you have collected. I bet there is a chart for gems, just like coins, where 5 gp = 1 pp, for example, if that is still the standard. So maybe if you collect five alexandrite gems, if that is equal to one diamond, and you go this the merchant, you can trade the five alexandrite for one diamond. It would create a purpose for all the gems that drop. And would it be too much to allow gems to stack like arrows?
